Chapter 31 - No Punishment?

Kong Xiulan gently turned the handle of the door to Feng Jiao's boss's office. She wasn't in a hurry. Feng Jiao had been caught.

The two of them, Kong Xiulan and the boss, had been panicking about Feng Jiao's whereabouts. She had never come back late, and even if she had, it was by an hour at most. They were somewhat shaken up by her being missing.

There were multiple reasons for them being shaken up, but the main one was Feng Jiao's safety.

She had a very risky job after all. There were many many people who were just waiting to kill her. Every criminal organization with a dominant alpha leader was trying to have her killed.

This was obviously a good strategy.

If you were to get rid of the only person who could kill you, wouldn't that make you immortal till some sort of natural death? Feng Jiao was the only one with the ability to kill a dominant alpha, so obviously, killing her first was the best way to escape.

Of course, a more dominant alpha could kill a less dominant alpha, but which dominant alpha was cheap enough to work for the government as an assassin. With their abilities, building multi billion dollar companies was a piece of cake. Why bother risking your life for a pittance.

An example of this would be Gao Longwei.

He was a dominant alpha that other dominant alphas would be afraid of. He could've become a hitman, but instead he started a large business for himself that was now making billions in profit. It was a lot less work than running around shooting people, and it paid more.

Was there anything to debate about which one to choose? Was it not obvious that you would choose to be the rich CEO instead of the less rich werewolf hunter who had to risk their life every single day.

And it wasn't that Gao Longwei didn't get to kill other dominant alphas.

In his line of arms dealing, there were always a couple of alphas to get rid of.

Be it competition, threats or even just thieves.

Feng Jiao however, was the greatest thief of them all. She had stolen his heart after all. It was not any easy feat, but Feng Jiao had pulled it off with a little help from the moon goddess.

Feng Jiao now, was in desperate need of help to escape the consequences of coming back late. If only there was someone to save her now. Too bad her boss was a grinch who sucked joy out of her life.

"Where were you!" the grinch of a boss asked strictly.

Usually Feng Jiao would've plonked herself down on the cream leather couches in front of the boss's desk and then given him a mocking look, but today she didn't dare. She instead gave him a very submissive glance.

One completely out of character for her.

Her seductive eyes weren't doing a very good job of sending across glumness, but the boss, who had practically raised Feng Jiao could tell that she was sorry. Or at least upset that she had been caught.

Either way, she was showing some sort of remorse, and the boss couldn't bring himself to scold her too much.

He leaned back on his office chair and then spun once, and then once again in the opposite direction. He was thinking of what to do next.

When he and Kong Xiulan had been plotting a punishment for Feng Jiao, he hadn't felt anything at all, but now it was as if he had writer's block. Or more accurately, punisher's block. He wanted to punish Feng Jiao, but at the same time, he didn't have the heart to do it.

He was completely torn about this now.

Feng Jiao saw this hesitation on his face and realized that she could still get herself out of this. With a bribe, that was.

She zipped open her school bag and pulled out the bag of macarons that she had recently bought. They were still decently fresh since they were baked today, and they were in very good condition.

They were beautifully colored with a glossy top and just the right amount of cream inside them. Feng Jiao had been comparing them to works of art in her head. Macarons were the best art piece in her opinion.

"Do you want one?" Feng Jiao held one out to the ever so slightly grumpy Kong Xiulan, and that confused the boss of hers. Feng Jiao then offered him one as well. It was a quick movement with no hesitation at all, so the boss was forced to accept it.

Both reluctantly accepted the macaron and then stared at her with a questioning look on their faces. Kng Xiulan took it one step further than the boss and asked Bai Jingfei a question from an assumption she made.

"Were you late because you went to buy macarons?" Kong Xiulan asked hesitantly. She wasn't sure about this, but all the macaron places that she knew of were at least an hour away.

It would make sense for Feng Xiao to be late because she was getting macarons.

Feng Jiao was stuffing her mouth with banana flavored macarons as Kong Xiulan spoke to her, and thus looked at Kong Xiulan with an expression that could be described as both guilty and startled. Her wide open eyes gave the image of a deer caught in headlights.

She nodded quietly.

Her mouth was stuffed full so it was impossible for her to talk anyway. It was better to not expose herself through her shoddy lying skills, and instead just agree to whatever they say.

The two adults in the room looked around and then finally settled their eyes on Feng Jiao.

She was old enough to manage herself now. It wasn't fair for them to not even allow her to get food.

"Go to your room. Sleep well, you have school tomorrow." the boss said tenderly.
