Chereads / Hermione Granger: An Unexpected Turn / Chapter 13 - Little Hangleton

Chapter 13 - Little Hangleton

"And how do you suppose we'll get there?", Ron asked.

Hermione took the book from him.

"Look", she said, flipping the pages, "If you go a few pages back...", she stopped at a page, "You can see. Harry mentioned the graveyard in which Cedric Diggory died. The grave he was tied to... It was Voldemort's father's grave."

"And how will that information help?", Ron asked.

"I'm not sure. I just know it will. His name was Tom 'Riddle' after all", Hermione reassured him, getting up, "I'll go get some sleep. Wake me up when it's my turn to keep watch."

Hermione went to bed, putting the diary back into her bag, and leaving Ron in a very confused state of mind. She lied down in bed but, despite trying, was not able to fall asleep. She stayed on her bed, lost deep in her thoughts for many hours, before she heard the unmistakable sound of a spell being cast and then Ron's shouts. It made Ginny wake up and sit upright all of a sudden.

"What was that?", she whispered, fully alert.

"Come on", Hermione beckoned her to follow her, which she did without any second thoughts.

They crept outside of the tent, where two snatchers could be seen, threatening Ron. Hermione slapped her head.

"I just remembered!", she whispered meticulously, "I only put the invisibility charm on the tent."

Hermione almost went out of the tent, before Ginny quickly got hold of her.

"I'll go", she said, "They're only after muggle-borns. I'll help Ron get rid of them."

Despite wanting to help badly, Hermione stayed behind, watching. Ginny and Ron were able to use hexes to scare the snatchers off. The snatchers didn't seem too skilled in magic.

It was Hermione's turn to keep watch now, and she put some spells around the tent too, with the help of Ron and Ginny after which they went to bed, while Hermione stayed outside. After some time of sitting silently, Hermione took out the diary again, hoping to find more clues. She read the pages over and over again as her eyes suddenly stopped at 'Little Hangleton'. She read the page, and finding out how the graveyard was in this village, she quickly folded the corner of the paper. She knew they were to go to Little Hangleton now.

The sun seemed to greet them very late. A minute seemed like an hour to Hermione as she wanted to tell Ron about her discovery. She had to wait all night, not wanting to wake him and Ginny up. But as soon as the sky showed a tiny amount of light, Hermione, though tired, quickly ran to wake up Ron and Ginny and ordered the tent to be packed again, while she put the rest of the important things back in her bag and checked to see if she had forgotten anything. In half an hour, the three of them were ready to take their leave. Hermione apparated with them to Little Hangleton. Looking at the village, Ron and Ginny were very confused.

"Is this Godric's Hollow, Hermione?", Ron asked, though he was sure it wasn't.

"No. Obviously not", she replied, "This is Little Hangleton."

Ron looked at the village for a moment, then at Hermione, giving her the 'I-don't-get-it' look. She pointed towards her bag, and Ron understood she might've heard of this place from the diary. They didn't want Ginny to know about the diary, since Harry didn't want anyone to know about it either. It was best if they kept it to themselves. They were his private thoughts in the guise of a book and they didn't want too many people invading his privacy. Ginny who was staring at the village, suddenly realized Ron and Hermione's silence.

"What are we to do now?", she asked, concerned.

"We need to find the Riddle House. Harry is probably kept there."

"How d'you know all this?", Ginny asked.

"Harry mentioned it a few times. I'm sure he's here", Hermione answered.

"This seems a bit weird", Ginny said, averting her gaze back towards the busy village, "I mean, isn't it a bit too easy?".

Hermione and Ron, as they had been in the papers during their seventh year a lot, were easily recognizable, and did not want to attract any attention, and so, their first mission in Little Hangleton would be to get a good amount of hair from three different villagers. This hair, they would use in the Polyjuice Potion they had prepared and brought with them.

"This should be fun!", Ron said with a grin, as Hermione explained the situation.
