Chereads / Hermione Granger: An Unexpected Turn / Chapter 14 - The Diary Once Again

Chapter 14 - The Diary Once Again

As three figures could be seen moving towards the tiny building they were standing next to, Ron, Hermione and Ginny quickly hid behind it. As the people came closer, Ginny silently petrified them, while Ron and Hermione made sure no one had witnessed it. They quickly dragged them behind the building too. They were two women and a man. It was quite the coincidence. Hermione took a pair of sharp scissors from her bag and cut the their hair carefully, as though not wanting to ruin them and making Ron annoyed too. Quickly, they left and set up their tent in the woods next to the village. They had left the three people behind, petrified, knowing someone would find and help them. It didn't seem like much of a problem.

"They didn't look like villagers," Ginny suggested.

"I suppose they're just some visitors," Hermione answered.

The three of them were able to breath peacefully that night, not having to be as alarm as they were in the Forest of Dean. It was Hermione's turn to keep watch first, and as soon as Ron heard Ginny's rhythmic breathing from the top of the bunkbed, meaning she was asleep, he left to go outside too. Hermione told him to go get some rest as he would have to keep watch later, but he said he wasn't sleepy. He asked Hermione about how she knew where to go once again. This time, she gave him a longer explanation, showing him the pages in the diary too. Just incase of more clues, the two of them searched it thoroughly, not feeling tired at all. They knew they had to find the Riddle House. It would probably be easy but getting in and getting out alive... that might be a problem.

They practiced more spells as they used to do in the Burrow. They practice them on insects or moths. Hermione wasn't quite fond of harming them but then again, they had no other way. They helped each other in the few spells they were facing problems in. Time passed and they didn't even realize how loud their spells were getting which caused Ginny to wake up. She went outside the tent and did not return to bed despite being told to. The three sat down on the cold ground, since Ron and Hermione were quite tired now.

"Where're we going to go now?" Ginny asked, "I mean. Harry DID mention Little Hangleton but what does it have to do with finding him? How're you two so sure about this place? What are you hiding?"

One question led Ginny to think of another, then another until she finally came to the conclusion that Ron and Hermione were hiding something from her. They tried to dodge her questions but to no avail. She was right after all. In Ginny's eyes, it wasn't fair that they were hiding things from her, even though she had come with them.

"Fine, Ginny," Hermione gave in, "We were hiding this from you," she hurried inside the tent, and brought the diary back with her, "Harry's diary. But, look Ginny. You can't read it. Harry wanted to keep it a secret. We decided it's best if the least number of people know about this or read it."

Ginny took the book from Hermione's hand. Hermione suddenly felt her heart sink very deep. She didn't know why but she started feeling really depressed. She put her hand on her chest, realizing she was wearing the pendant. She took it off, and felt back to normal and putting it back on, she felt depressed again. 'Could they be Ginny's feelings?' she thought. Fleur had told them that they would only get these feelings when far away. But maybe that wasn't the case. She wanted to free Ginny from this devastating feeling. She could see that she was trying her best not to act how she felt. Hermione took the diary from her and opened the page from which she found out about the village, and the one with the Riddle House in it.

"Here," she said gently, "You can read these pages. They have some important information in them. And, read the other pages too if you want."

As Ginny started reading, Hermione suddenly felt much better. She realized how they needed to keep their emotions under control in order to be able to find Harry and how they ought to treat Ginny better. Ginny wasn't being over-dramatic when she said they were not being fair when they weren't letting her in on some of the information. She was right. They had to stick together. They had to keep good relations with each other.

Ginny was immersed in the diary and seeing this, Ron quickly took Hermione out of earshot.

"Why're you telling her all this?" he asked, "We were supposed to keep this a secret."

"Ginny needs to know. We can't hide anything from her anymore. She deserves to know and I will allow her to read as much of the diary as she wants," Hermione answered firmly.

Ron kept bickering while Hermione tried to make him understand. Soon enough, Ginny also entered the conversation.

"Where are we going to go now?" she asked.

"The Riddle House. You might have read about it too. It's where Cedric Diggory died. It was Voldemort's father's house," Hermione answered descriptively, "We'll be able to find it easily. The only problem is how we're going to get in and then get out alive."

Ginny thought for a while. Surely there was a way to do this.

"Wait..." she said, putting the pieces of the puzzle together in her brain, "I know what to do!"
