It was 1st September, meaning it was time for Hermione to finally go to her new home. The knock last night happened to be an owl, which delivered Hermione her ticket. The family left for the train.
"Platform nine and three quarters", read Mr. Granger, confused. Hermione assured them it'd be easy to get there as she had read how to, and so they did.
It was three minutes to eleven. Hermione gave her parents a goodbye-hug and got on the train. At exactly eleven o' clock, the train left. Hermione was nervous about leaving her parents, but excited. She had never thought that one day she would be on a train, going to a castle to learn magic!
She sat in a carriage with two more students. Hermione knew better to stare, but she couldn't help herself.
"What's that?", she asked a boy that looked her age, pointing towards one of the treats he had in his hands. She did not want any, but had asked out of curiosity, as it was a very peculiar thing.
The boy was large. Obese, in a more fancy way of saying it. He held the candy out to her.
"Try it", he said, "A muggle-born, eh? Very popular things these are, here in the wizarding world". He was taking a huge bite as he continued. Hermione refused the offer. "Well, I think the trolley witch's about to come soon, I need some chocolate frogs, anyways.", he continued, "try them then. You wont regret it".
Hermione nodded awkwardly. Just then, the girl beside the boy poked her head out of a book she was reading.
She was slim, with long, curly brown hair and bright blue eyes.
"Don't mind him", she said, "he's always eating". "I'm Emily by the way, Emily Eddan and this is Oliver Shirls" She held out a hand which Hermione shook. "Hermione Granger", she introduced herself.
Oliver didn't seem to mind the "compliment" about him always eating. He just kept eating while Hermione and Emily talked. Emily didn't seem to mind that she, a pureblood was talking to a muggle-born, like most purebloods would. Soon, the trolley witch came in.
"Anything from the trolley, dears? Pumpkin Pasty? Chocolate Frog? Cauldron Cake?" she said, as always.
"I'll take some chocolate frogs", said Oliver, greedily and grabbed a whole bunch of them, handing the witch some peculiar coins.
The trolley witch left, and Oliver picked up a pack of chocolate frogs. He licked his lips and murmured something about not being able to get hold of it last time. Emily told him to be careful. Hermione didn't understand what the were saying and as soon as she was about to ask, Oliver opened the packet and the frog hopped out of the packet right into Hermione's lap. She screamed at the top of her lungs and stood straight up on her seat. Oliver got hold of the frog and stuffed it into his mouth which disgusted Hermione.
"What was that!?", she gasped.
"Sorry!", Oliver apologized, "You know it's really hard to get hold of these pesky things. He opened another packet and popped it into his mouth.
Hermione was in shock. She hated frogs the most of all and it was sickening to see Oliver devour them. The chocolate frogs were brown, but the rest of them made them look as if frogs had been dipped into chocolate and wrapped into a packet. They looked so real and jumped like real ones too.
The time passed so quickly that before they knew it, it was getting dark.
"How much longer?", Hermione asked.
"An hour or so", Emily replied, "But we had better change early or we'll be late."
They changed into their uniforms. Hermione was thrilled. She and Emily had had a long talk about the four houses, their favourite founders and which houses they'd want to get sorted into.
Hermione had already thought about it. She wanted to be sorted into Ravenclaw. She loved the idea of walking into a common room with more than a hundred books. She also loved the qualities of Rowena Ravenclaw, the founder.
Soon, the train came to a stop. Everyone got out of the train and got on boats to cross the black lake. It was there, that Hermione got separated from her friends. She got on one boat. Hermione wasn't able to see the castle until the boat stared moving away from the trees blocking the view. A man rowed the boat towards the castle. It was wilder than Hermione's wildest dreams.
