Lilith
The ultramarine sky, reflected and refracted with light whisps fading in and out. The aquatic city of Proluvies alive all around us. Our oxygen intake filters attached to our necks, allowing us to take in the absolute beauty of the water barrier. Different shades of aqua blue, shimmering by, with tendrils of light streaking the sky above.
"It's been two days, Lilith. I think it's time to move onto the next case." Lying down in our inn room.
"Alright, alright. You have a point. But can you please run through this last case again?" I pout, letting out the big guns.
I stare at Dalia, widening my eyes and raising my eyebrows.
"That's not fair, you know I can't say no that face."
She laughs, bringing out the file again.
"Alright, two victims both female were working their regular shift as maids. They were found dead in a room that they were cleaning, by the end of their shift. The maids were concluded to be poisoned same as the last victim, however this time it was contaminated cleaning supplies. The poison was fast acting and left no trace on the bodies." She sighs at the end of her recitation. "Lastly the two maids took an impromptu two weeks off before returning the day before they were poisoned."
"It doesn't make sense, the targets this time were two average workers. The last one was a high noble, so what could possibly connecting them all? And why do they disappear before dying?" I ask out loud.
"I think it's a person." Dalia states, staring off at the ceiling. "Think about it, they all must have worked for someone very important who either wants them dead, or needs to hush them. And if it's the ladder then, these people must have known something important."
"Yeah, that makes sense. I still feel like something's missing though. Who could be so important enough to kill for?" I push myself off the bed and grab my case, inputting the address for the next hotel we're staying at in Ustrina.
The city of fire. Since the before even Ecrea the people of Ustrina have been able to control fire for ages. They are a proud people and rely on fighting to stay strong. Being protectors is in their blood, and they are amazing at it. So good in fact, that the high guards for the royals are all Ustrinans.
You'll never meet a person loyal, yet so fierce.
"You all packed now?" Dalia zoning back in, looks at me with a raised eyebrow. She lifts herself gracefully off the bed and watches as my case slowly vanishes. "We'll figure this whole thing out Lilith, I know we will. I feel like we're so close, we're just missing the last piece to the whole picture." Wrapping her arms around in a tight embrace. "Don't worry too much because you know what they say about Ustrinans. They can smell despair, and they eat it for breakfast." She jokingly taunts.
"I'm pretty sure nobody says that about them." I laugh, squeezing her once before I let go. "On that note though, are we going to Ustrina or not? Me wanna see some battle fire magic. I've heard that the battles are epic." Dalia inputs the portal code into her watch and one opens in front of us.
"Please tell me this one isn't going to open in the middle of a field?" I whine, preparing myself for the transport. These things make me feel very nauseous, and the fact that Dalia is still learning how pinpoint a specific location isn't helping.
"No promises." She squints, shrugging her shoulders.

"So, all the victims died the same, and disappeared for the same amount of time, but never knew each other?" I point out, pacing back and forth in our room.
After checking out the scene, and gathering everything we can Dalia and I decided to go to our inn for a break. We weren't getting anywhere with the case and it was becoming more and more fervent in my mind. It's as though the answer is so obvious but very well hidden. Dalia seems like she's fallen in love with the case, since we haven't one this complicated in a while she's almost sad that it's going to end eventually.
And while I am very intrigued and exhilarated by this case, it is wearing me down.
The constant tension in each region when we arrive, or when we walk the streets.
This are getting worse with the nobles by the second, but still no word from the royals.
There is no stopping this feeling inside me that knows my whole world is going to end. I just don't know what to do about it.
"Lilith, hey." Dalia steps in front of me, gently grabbing my shoulders to center me. "Close your eyes, and take a deep breath. In..." I inhale slowly. "...and out. In and..." I exhale, my once race mind quieting down. "...out. Look, I know everything seems really high strung right now because of the noble situation, but we can do this. We've been through worse. We just have to solve this case and we can run on the tropical beaches of Medeis without a worry in the world."
I snort at that last part. "Run? Baby no, I've done enough running. The second I get to that beach your going to have to carry me everywhere because I will be asleep." We laugh, settling down on the bed.
"Okay, I've got it. Let's order some food in, and just watch a movie." She suggests, menu already in hand.
I don't even try to stop myself from grinning ear to ear. "How did I get so lucky with the smartest girlfriend in the universe!" I shout jumping on top of her as she squeals.

I wake up, a shine of sweat on my forehead but cold all over. The shorts I'm wearing doing nothing to warm my legs, but my upper body warm enough to beat others. We passed out after eating so much food, I couldn't think anymore.
The files were sitting on the desk at the corner of the room. The shine of their mustard yellow color glowing in the red dark of Ustrina's eternal flame.
I sit at the desk reading over each one again and again until I stop at something that I didn't see the first time.
~NOBLE SPECIALIST IN RARE MAGIC.
"Shit." I mutter out loud to myself. That means that the victim knew-
"-Forbidden magic." Dalia whispers, peering over me.
Yelping, I fall out of my seat, and onto the cold hard floor. My hind legs, now more freezing.
"Sorry, I scared you. But I saw you were going over the files and heard you found something important. You do know what this means?" She lifts me off the floor and hands the file over. "This isn't just some killer anymore. The suspect is trained, obviously due to the poison and the way it was disposed of. It was a hired job, and there's only one group that takes jobs like this."
