Today you finally got the eat inside the grand mess hall! Your brain was blown away at seemly endless options of delicious food you could choose from. All Might was pulled away for a faculty meeting and could not eat with you that day but you did not mind that.
Lunch was officially your favorite time of school.
After gathering enough food to feed three people you made your happy way in search of a table. After a few seconds of looking around to find a place to eat, your heart skipped a beat locking eyes with your classmates who mostly gathered around a large white table chatting. You and Jiro clashed eyes, after a moment she glanced away pretending not to notice you.
Your face felt flushed as you quickly moved away from the groups of friends who all sat together.
Finding an empty table in the corner of the room, you settled down and began munching. Glancing over your shoulder you stole a peak of your happy classmates.
You didn't feel they liked you very much.
Why would they?
You were a broken tool, who couldn't even do what she was trained to do. The only time you were ever useful was when you were a human battery.
Shiro and Gray jumped at the first chance they got to get away from you.
You have been locked inside a cold shoebox for most of your life and yet here you now sit, in a room crowded with people and you have never felt lonelier.
----
After another quiet lunch alone, your classes had their sparring training sessions today. Once again you were placed on the sidelines, you felt the distain eyes of your classmates. You could hear them muttering, why were you even in their class if you weren't going to train?
Aizawa watched with the sleepy dull expression that was always on his face.
You observed your classmates as they sparred with one another.
Hanta Sero, the young hero who could shoot tape from his elbows was up against Mashirao Ojiro, who had an insanely strong tail at his disposal were fighting each other.
You leaned against your arm feeling sleepy, fighting back the urge to yawn. The last thing you needed was to make the class who already didn't like you think you were rude while yawning during their match. You felt yourself walking on eggshells when you were at this school.
Was this how high school was supposed to be?
It was terrible.
Ojiro won the fight.
The class clapped and cheered both boys on. You watched seeing how they supported each other, win or lose. You wondered if you could ever be like those people, who laughed so freely and held connections to others so openly.
How did people do it?
You gazed at the ground, recalling back to the television shows you binged watched while in the hospital. How did they do it? Just walk up and randomly talk to another person as if that was normal?
"Alright-" Aizawa called, "-that's enough for one day."
"Hey Mina-!" Ochaco called over to the pink girl, "-you wanna go shopping-!?"
All Might's voice bounced around uninvited around your head, encouraging you to stand up and make an effort.
"You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take!" All Might's advice had you quickly jumping to your feet before you knew what you were doing, you were walking over to the closest girl: Kyoka Jiro.
"H-Hey..." Your voice was unsteady as it came out and quickly you realized you had no other words to follow up with, your brain flat lines as she stared at you with distain tainting her fragile face.
It felt like cold water washing over your skin, seeing that look in her face as she turned and walked away.
The Jackers always looked at you with that face.
"(y/n)." Aizawa called, pulling your attention onto him as your classmates slowly left the field. Bakugo glanced over his shoulder ignoring Kirishima who wanted to hang out with him and watched Aizawa and you.
"How is your recovery?" Aizawa wondered.
"Um-" You tried keeping your voice steady but failed, you swallowed the hard lump of emotion in your throat deciding to remain silent.
Shadow Jack always said you were better seen and not heard.
"You don't have to lie to me." Aizawa clarified, "You're not going to be kicked out of school or this class simply because you're not healing quickly enough. As your teacher it is my job to make sure I am pushing your limits, but I don't want to push you while injured."
"Thank you, Mr. Aizawa." You looked into his dark bloodshot eyes. "I don't want special treatment, or to be coddled."
"Understood." Aizawa nodded, ending the conversation and excusing you for the day.
Since All Might was busy, Midnight gave you a ride home. You clinched onto anything you could grasp onto as she sped and swerved through the streets. You always felt like a terrified cat every time you got into her car.
"Thank you-" You said to Midnight who winked, you offered for her to come inside but she had another 'hot date' and sped off leaving tire marks in the driveway.
Once inside the large house you still weren't used to, you made your way to your bedroom. Opening the cream-colored door, you tossed your school bag on the floor and plopped onto the bed. You sighed, loving the feel of it against your body. You never had a bed before now.
The clean hardwood floors stung your feet as you got up to change. There was a small walk-in closet which held your new clothes, a dresser, a vanity and TV mounted on the wall.
After throwing on baggy clothes; you cracked the glass door to let in a fresh breeze, the glass door walked out onto a balcony. With a deep breath you grabbed your bag ready to start your homework.
Hours later a knock on your bedroom door broke you from your swirling thoughts.
"(y/n)!" All Might cheered, seeing you were doing homework.
"Welcome home." You respond, repeating what All Might says to you.
"Thank you!" He smiled brightly, you wondered if you could ever smile like that. "I'm sorry I was so late today-" He explained why his meeting ran late, "-anyway, how was school!?"
"It was ok." You muttered, looking back down at your textbook. All Might walked into your room.
"Just, ok-?" All Might dug, "-tell me about your day! How were classes? Are you making any friends yet!?"
"Yeah-" You nodded, placing a small smile on your face for the man who took you in and gave you a bed to sleep in. "-class was good and..." Tears unwillingly filled your eyes as pain erupted in your chest hearing the word friends. You faked a bigger smile as if it could mask the tears fell down your cheeks.
"(y/n)!?" All Might quickly rushed to your side, "What-!?" He watched with wide eyes as the tears free fell down your face with no end in sight.
"It's nothing." You breathed shaking your head, hating every inch of your being for allowing the tears to fall. You wished you were stronger, if you were then maybe you could have held back the flood.
"This doesn't seem like nothing! What happened!?" All Might demanded to know.
"N-Nothing-" You tried to quickly wipe away the evidence of how broken you felt inside.
"(y/n), this isn't nothing! Please, tell me, you know you can tell me anything-"
"I-I can't..." You shook your head, lowering your head in defeat.
"Yes-" All Might lightly smiled, lifting your chin. "-you can-"
"No!" You snapped, swatting his hand away before getting off the bed.
"(y/n)-"
"I...I can't do this!" You felt the little box where you crammed all your emotions inside break. "I can't stay here and pretend that I belong!"
"You do-"
"I don't-" You overpowered his voice, "-people who don't even know me, hate me! I don't belong here!"
"No one here hates you-"
"My entire class does!"
"No, they-"
"I have eyes All Might-!" You found yourself yelling, "-I can see how they look at me, hear what they say about me! How are they just kids and can see through this schrade of an act I display but you can't!?"
"What do you-"
"I am a monster-!" You spelt out, "-I have been broken and alone all my life, and I'd rather be back inside that cell than sit inside a classroom full of people who don't want me there!"
"(y/n)-" All might breathe moving to close the space between you.
"No-!" You breathed, taking a step back. "-I-I can't-" You cried into your hands, and for the first time since he found you, All Might saw the pain you held within. How could he have been so blind to not see it?
"I think you are so very brave." All Might said out of the blue.
"Ha-!" You scoffed,
"I think it's brave that you get up in the morning-" All Might when on, "-even though your soul is weary and your body aches. You keep on living even though you don't know how to. When you look at yourself you see a monster in the mirror, but when I look at you a see a survivor."
"I am not-"
"It's ok-" All Might took a step closer, "-to feel tired, to feel like you failed. If you don't know how to get up off your knees, let me help you up, let me give you my strength."
"All Might-"
"You are not defined by what people say about you or your past. (y/n) you are not alone, I am here, I will always be here for you. Shadow Jack took so much from you, but I know you have better days ahead."
"No-" You breathed, trying to control the tears from flooding down your face.
"I can see you are hurting. I am so sorry I didn't see it before; I know the only way you probably survived your life was avoiding the pain, but you must deal with it. You can't go around it or avoid this (y/n)."
"I-"
"If you never heal from what hurt you, then you will bleed on people who never hurt you."
"I am fine-"
"Are you?" All Might cupped your face with his large hand, "My dear, it is ok to ache, but you can't heal if you pretend you were never hurt."
"All Might-" Fresh tears filled your eyes realizing this man did not deserve your anger. "I-I am sorry-"
"You don't need to be." He breathed, wrapping his arms around you. "I am here." He whispered, "Everything is going to be ok."
All Might stroke your hair, the two of you sat in the living room as you opened up to him about your past. You were honestly about Shadow Jacks 'training', you told him about the quirk experiments that were done on you, the scars on your flesh told your story.
After the night grew into the morning, All Might got you to agree to go speak with a therapist. For a small sliver of time, you didn't feel like a disappointment to the only person who showed any genuine care towards you.
You didn't go to school that day, or the next.
All Might sat outside in the waiting room while you spoke to a woman who had graying hair. She and you got to know each other before she bit into your trauma.
