When Cormac and Melusine awoke in the morning, they awoke to a most melodious sound. Emerging from the cave they had taken shelter in the Young Egan and the Surface-Born Merrow-Maiden beheld a sight most wondrous. Swimming through the water, more mammoth in size than the largest dinosaur were four blue whales, singing their song that put the songs of the Muses of old to shame.
So colossal, so melodious, the blue whale was truly a thing to be respected and marvelled. Alas, not everyone was of such a mind. In the world existed murderers and unfortunately, the world had ways of making murder legal. Things such as big game hunting and whaling were responsible for the destruction of such magnificent animals. In civilized society, such people who committed such acts would have been viewed as criminals, but alas, much of the world's society was not civilized and so such evil was allowed to persist.
Swimming up to the great behemoths of the Deep, Cormac looked into the eye of a bull and wondered what things this mighty inhabitant of the seas could have seen.
But alas, while Cormac may not have understood what the whales were singing, Melusine did. She heard the warning to all those in the area, the warning of killers, murderers, whalers and other such monsters born from the depths of Hell coming this way.
Her blood running cold, images of the death and destruction caused by these monsters, these Children of Satan, began to run through the Helena of the Deep's mind. How far away were they? Were they close? Would they be here in a matter of moments? She wished she knew, she wished she could be sure Cormac and her would be safe, she wished she knew all who lived here in Baffin Bay would be safe, but how could she be certain?
