The unstable dark Qi gathered around Arslan punch exploded exactly when it touched the griffon's beak, which the beast used to attack him.
Griffons are one of the weakest flying species but to beat them is necessary to be at least a Mystic-level cultivator. The difference between Earth-level and Mystic-level was huge, especially due to a special increase in the Qi purity, which allowed techniques to be more powerful.
