Chapter 15 - Chapter 14 - Callia

My fingers dug into the soil, pulling out the herb with the roots still attached. If I can grow some of these, I'm sure that they'll fetch a great price! Callia herbs are quite rare and expensive, and if I could sell some of them, I'd be able to get some extra money for the baby once its born. I can't let Hunt shoulder all of the responsibility.

I never thought that I'd want to stay together with him. One night, and I thought that I'd never think of it again. Boy, was I wrong. It's hard because I really like Hunt... and perhaps that's why I've changed my mind on marriage.

Hunt's not like Derek. He won't lock me up, restrict my freedom or my way of life. Perhaps once the baby is born, we'll be able to go hunting together. That would be great...

"There you are!" A worried Hunt rushed towards me, a deer around his shoulders. Dropping it, he ran towards me, squeezing me tightly in a sudden hug. He seemed so terrified. I smiled, hugging him back.

"I wasn't running away, and I wasn't kidnapped. I was just picking herbs..." He then stepped back, giving me a bit of space. He looked right into my eyes and sighed. "I'm sorry," he replied. "I was just scared. There are... well... never mind. You don't need to worry about needless things. I'm here to protect you."

Protect me? How cute... I ruffled his hair, smiling gently. "I trust you, but I'm strong as well, you know." He nuzzled his nose into my neck, making me squeal a bit. "Hey, your nose is cold..." He then quickly pulled back, as if he had burnt my skin.

He's so jumpy when it comes to me. It's like he's scared that I'm just waiting for a reason to run away again. In my defence, I never expected him to return. I thought that he was gone for good.

Laying me down in the cave again, he immediately started a fire and cooked the meat perfectly before handing it to me to eat, making sure to blow on it before he fed it to me.

"Is it painful?" he asked, poking at my belly. I smiled and shook my head. "No, it's warm. Just like you." He sat up when I said that, pressing his thumb against my chin, raising it up. The sun had just set, covering the world in temporary darkness. His eyes suddenly darkened a bit, looking right at me just like that night.

Pulling me towards him, he looked at me like I was prey. I couldn't help but feel like he wanted to overwhelm me again, the confusion slowly kicking in. It wasn't long before his lips were on mine, his firm arm around my waist. Somehow, when the sun sets, he seems like a different person. More savage... more animalistic.
