Chereads / Greenfield: Dandelion / Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

After 2 movies, I started feeling drowsy.

"If we start watching the last movie, we'll have to stop midway to go out and see the sunrise." Skyler explained.

"I'm sleepy." I replied.

"Why don't you take a nap and I'll wake you up." He suggested.

"No. If I sleep now, I'll have a hard time waking up later." I replied.

"Then what should we do?" He asked.

"I'm gonna go and wash my face." I said as I stood up and went to the bathroom.

After washing my face, I felt a little more awake but still sleepy.

"Why don't we start heading to the Blue Moon River?" I suggested

"Sure. Your choice." He replied so we both started to get changed and head out.

When we arrived at Blue Moon River, there were not many people. The wind is cold and it helps wake me up. We walked around first for a little exercise and to wake us up.

"Why did you want to see the sunrise?" Skyler suddenly asked and I smiled at him.

Why? Because this is what I promised to do if I got my sign.

"Right. Aren't you cold? There's a small stall there that sells some hot soup and drinks. Let's wait there." I replied.

"Why are you avoiding my question?" He asked.

"I just felt like seeing the sunrise is the best thing to do now." I replied.

We both walked to that stall and ordered something warm to eat.

"Are you going to start promotions when you get back to country Y?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'll be very busy again. I might not be able to see you again in a long while." He replied sadly.

"Is that why you came here to see me?" I asked.

"I came here because it's the 1 year anniversary of us meeting each other and yet you didn't even remember." He complained.

"I guess you weren't that memorable." I teased him.

"Me? Not memorable? I'm pretty sure you had a great time that day too for it not to be memorable." He continued to complain.

"It was my first time, of course it was memorable to me. You should be honoured. I will always remember you when I think of the first time it happened." I told him.

"I am honoured. I met such a wonderful woman that day." He replied.

"The spring breeze really feels good on your skin, right?" I said to change the topic and Skyler just sighed.

"It is." He replied disappointedly and we continued to eat our meal in silence.

The past month has been weird for me, I kept missing him even though we call each other everyday. Ivy said we're practically dating. She said who calls each other everyday just to know what they ate, how they were doing, and stuff like that.

I mean sure I like him but will it work? What happens when it ends? We won't be seeing each other like this anymore. Wouldn't it be safer to keep this equilibrium?

These questions have been turning on my head for the past month and I just can't seem to find the right answer until Ivy stepped in and told me to stop overthinking it.

After all, no one knows the future. We can still drift apart even if I turned him down for whatever reason. We are already on the point of no return. Whether I be his girlfriend or not, our relationship would never be the same.

Life is not like a bunch of if-else code, there's a whole lot of possibilities that could happen, like the possibility that we could get a happy ending.

"Hey, are you asleep?" He asked when he saw me staring off to space.

"No, I close my eyes when I sleep." I answered.

"What? I know people who sleep with their eyes open. Anyway, the sun is rising soon. Wanna go over there?" He asked and I nodded.

We went near the river and saw the sky slowly changing color.

"Wow, I never thought the sunrise would take such a long time." I said.

"What did you think? The sun would just jump up in the sky?" He teased me.

"No, I actually did not think of anything. I guess I didn't know it takes time for the sky to actually brighten." I answered.

"Is this the first time you're watching the sun rise?" He asked.

"Yep. I'm doing a lot of 'first times' with you." I told him and smiled brightly at him.

"I'm glad I could be of service." He replied.

"Oh, let me tell you a pick up line." I said.

"Seriously?" He asked at my randomness.

"Don't be afraid to try and I will catch you because you're my only exception." I told him.

"How is that a pick up line? I don't get it." He replied.

"You know- try-catch-exception?" I explained.

"What's that?" He asked, confused.

"You put codes inside the try-catch block and if an error occurs inside the code you've written it will catch whatever exception you declared. You can write as many exception clauses depending on the exception or the error you want to catch but most of the time we just use the catch all exception. Well, for me, I just use one catch clause to catch all exceptions unless it's required to catch different exceptions." I explained and Skyler suddenly laughed.

"I love that you were telling me a pick up line then suddenly going on a full blown explanation on what it entails. I would like to say I understood it all but I guess, I got the gist of it." He replied.

"Ah, I got carried away." I said shyly.

"It's okay. I think you actually like what you do. I mean you said you're not really into it but your eyes shine brightly when you're explaining it to me." He commented.

"I'm actually doing some training these days. Their basic stuff but I guess I'm moving forward and that's thanks to you. Maybe, it's not the same passion you have for music but at least now, I found my direction again." I replied as I looked at the brightening sky.

"That's good to hear. So you got more pick up lines?" He asked.

"Yeah, of course but let's appreciate the changing sky first. It looks pretty right now. Hey, let's take a picture together. Our first sunrise." I told him and took out my phone to take a picture.

I like the picture we took with our first sunrise that we watched together. The first and hopefully many more to come.

"Hey, what's the date today again?" I asked and Skyler looked at me helplessly.

"It's May 23." He answered.

"Hmmm… May 23. You should remember this date then." I said.

"As the first time we watched the sunrise together?" He asked, curiously.

"As our anniversary. I won't forgive you if you forget our anniversary." I answered and Skyler looked at me dumbfounded.

"I don't think I'm understanding what you're trying to say. Can you repeat that again?" He asked, still shocked.

"Ah right, the pick up line. Hmmm… I hope you're a variable so I can declare you mine. Ah there's another version of that. I hope you're a function so I can call you mine." I said.

He sighed and laughed at what I said. It seems like he can't believe how random I am at this moment.

"I don't care. I'll be whatever you want me to be as long as I'm yours." He replied and kissed me.

I also don't care if this relationship ended up failing. At least, I won't keep on wondering what could have been. I'm tired of thinking it over, I just know that I don't want to regret not giving him, no, not him, us the chance.

"Am I still the last person you kissed?" He asked smugly.

"Do I look like someone who goes around kissing people?" I asked sarcastically.

"Thank you. I won't let you regret dating me." He said.

"I won't." I replied and smiled at him.

He has a pretty smile right now. He's sparkling. He seems so happy. I feel giddy with the thought that I made him this happy.

"I can't believe this is happening. You don't know how happy I am right now." He said.

"Did it sink in now?" I teased him.

"Yeah. Wait, this isn't a dream, right?" He asked.

"Want me to slap you?" I offered.

"No, thanks. I don't want to get slapped by my girlfriend on the first day we're dating." He replied and I laughed.

"The sun has brightened up the sky. Let's go back home." I said.

"Wait. Did you plan all this? Watching the sunrise? Today? Those pick up lines?" He asked, shocked.

"Yeah, I put a lot of thought into it though it's not necessary for it to be today. Ah, but it's necessary for you to remember the day we first met." I answered.

"And if I didn't remember?" He asked curiously.

"Then… we wouldn't be here now." I replied.

"Isn't that a bit too much?" He asked, shocked.

"It was my sign. I told myself, if you remember the day we first met, then I'll be your girlfriend and if not then let's stay as friends. I didn't think you would come here and cook dinner for us." I explained.

"I'm so glad I made the decision to fly here today." He said and I gave him a pat on his back for a good job.

"Wait then when did you plan this 'watching the sunrise' thing?" He asked.

"The same time I made up the sign. If you remembered, I'll bring you to watch the sunrise as a sign of a new beginning. I'll give you my answer when that time comes." I explained.

"Wow. I can't believe you planned all this." He exclaimed.

"I'm an overthinker. I have thought of this moment a whole lot of time. What are the possibilities? How will it turn out? I'm just glad it's over and done with. I was really nervous, you know." I told him shyly.

"Did you make all those cheesy pick up lines?" He continued to ask.

"I did not. I googled it."I answered.

"You're so cute. Let me hug you." He said and hugged me.

"You know, Ivy's right. We had been dating since back then. I mean I don't think anything has changed. Other than that, we made it official today." I told him.

"Dating does not exactly happen in one day you know. You'll see the changes in the future." He said.

"Well, I don't really know. You're my first boyfriend." I replied.

"Don't worry. I'll make sure I'm the last also." He said and winked at me.
