Chapter 25 - The List

The sisters entered their room in silence and sat on their beds, looking at each other. They were both waiting for the other to start the conversation.

Alek moved her mouth in a weird way when the conversation wasn't starting after five minutes.

"Are you okay with me being the head?" The question Alek wanted to ask wasn't this but, it slipped from her mouth.

"Yes." Bia answered shortly.

"Why?"

"I think being the head suits you." Bia answered and lay on the bed. "Once in a while, people need someone like you."

Alek didn't respond to her sister and, Bia sat up. Alek's head was down and, she couldn't see her face.

"Isn't it the answer that you wanted to hear?" Bia asked, confused.

Alek didn't answer that also.

"What do you want me to-" Bia almost shouted at her sister if it weren't for Alek's low voice.

"How do you know that?" Alek slowly raised her head. Her voice was low and emotionless but, from her brown eyes, Bia could see sadness mixed with anger.

"Know what?" Bia asked.

"How do you know that they would need someone like me?" I don't have powers. Alek didn't say the last sentence. Saying it will make her depress.

"Don't make me say this." Bia mumbled to herself but, Alek heard it.

"What di-"

"You are different." Bia told sternly as she told her sister. "You are different than me, Kai and everyone. You are special. You make people happy just by seeing you. You radiate happiness."

Alek dropped her jaw, hearing her sister. Since when did her sister become like this? To think about it, this is actually the first time when Bia is telling her true feelings. Bia was honest when she was little but, she eventually stopped. 'Amen. It's going to snow tomorrow.' Alek thought as she continued listening to her sister.

"You make people want to be good. You don't act like a sister to me and Kia but, when we need you the most, you are always there. Some people abandon hope but, you don't. You always believe in the good. You are peaceful... The list could go on. Do you want me to continue?" Bia had a red face from both talking too much and embarrassment.

"I think I got enough." Alek answered in a daze.

Bia's list could continue forever. And the overprotective, doted-to-Alek side of Bia wanted to continue but, the other self didn't allow that to happen. She had already spilt too much. If she continued, that would be committing suicide.

Bia knew she doted to Alek deep down but, she didn't want to admit it. It was awkward, weird and, a little embarrassing to actually admit it. So she buried that side of her in the grave in her mind. But sometimes, she comes out of the grave like a zombie and takes control of what she says.

Alek let her sister's words sank in. She didn't know Bia had felt that way. Most of the time, Bia would just act annoyed when Alek was close to her.

The words that Bia said was encouraging and heart-warming. She may not have meant any of the words that she has said, but Alek was still happy. It didn't matter if it was true or not.

Bia sighed deeply after burying the annoying one that took control of her with concrete in her mind. That one needed to be locked up.

She looked at Alek, who looked deep in thought.

Bia looked away from her sister in nervousness.

"I didn't know you felt that way about me." Alek spoke when her mind was arranged. "Thank you for saying it."

Bia just bit her lip. She thought she was going to die from embarrassment. Her face was still red and her ears also turned red after hearing her sister. She wanted to disappear into particles of dust.

Thankfully, Alek didn't say anything after that and she was spared. But it was still awkward to stay in the same room together, so Bia made an excuse and said she needed to call somebody and got out of the room.

Alek lay still on her bed, staring at the ceiling as she did in her brother's room. One thing that was different from the previous is that this room didn't have glowing stickers of stars and rockets like in Aether's. It was pure white with a dandelion looking light hanging in the middle.

Their mother had chosen the light, which they did not mind. The parents build the house when they were little and, they have been living in it for their lives.

It was still early to light up the room as the sun was still up in the sky, and it was bright.

Alek was tired of thinking about the supernatural world that she was always dreaming about. The world of supernaturals she was dreaming of all this time was not the same as she thought it would be.

She wanted to escape reality or go back to when she didn't know about this. But it was impossible and, she knew that. She needed to embrace reality but, she could close her eyes from it for a while, right? That wouldn't hurt.

Alek rolled to the side, facing the bookshelf and chose a random book. That random book came out to be a story of a Lycan falling in love with his weak mate.

She quickly closed the book, put it on the bookshelf and chose a book next to it. The next to it was a story about a girl who turns out to be a powerful witch.

Alek again closed the book and put it back on the bookshelf. She then picked a book while closing her eyes. She got the story of faeries. She picked other books the same way she did, and all turned out to be stories of werewolves, vampires, witches, faeries, ghosts...

Just how many books of hers were about supernaturals? She got annoyed in the end and did air boxing. Her plan of getting off of the supernatural world didn't seem to go well. Her books proved how much she wanted to meet them. Now that she has met them and she turned out to be one, she didn't actually feel the feeling as she imagined.

She was surprised at first, but surprisingly, she was able to adapt to it quickly. Good thing she had read all of those books and believed in them. If she hadn't, the results might have been different, in a bad way.

Alek gave up on finding a non-supernatural book from the shelf and went to her phone to read. There were tons of books she had not read in her book app because she repeats the same books all the time and does not start another one.

She was reluctant to start another book and wanted to continue reading her favourite, the story of lycans fall in love. But that would make her make face reality more. So she gave up on that idea and chose a book she didn't know she had.

Alek was grumpy at first, but soon, she was sucked into the story. The way the writer uses the tone, words, characters, world... It was fascinating. She got lost in it until Bia returned and turned the lights on in the darkroom.

The face of Bia brought Alek memories of the morning when she said she'd be showing the book to her.

Alek rolled on her bed and took out the book that they talked about in the morning. And gave it to her sister. "Here is the book that I was supposed to give to you after breakfast."

Bia thanked her sister and read the book until their mother came to pick them up for cooking supper.

The family didn't talk about the supernaturals anymore and had a fun supper like the night before when Alek was still oblivious to the secret of the family that only she didn't know.

Alek and Bia went back to their room after cleaning the table, washing the dishes and brushing their teeth.

Alek lay on her bed immediately and faced the bookshelf mindlessly. She realised that she had put the family heirloom book in the wrong place. It wasn't in the space in the end that she created. It was exchanged with a book next to it.

She stretched her hand to exchange the book when she saw the locked heirloom open.

"Oh, sh*t!" Alek cursed as she sat up. Bia quickly came by her side and checked what was happening when she saw a beautiful book in Alek's hand. She didn't know about the existence of the book.

"What's wrong?" Bia asked Alek as her eyes went back and forth from the book and her sister's face.

Alek didn't try to cover up in her hand anymore as it was too late, but most importantly, she didn't care. All that mattered to her was that the book was open.
