How the hell was the book open?! Alek thought as she stared at the open.
The book in her hand was open but, it was only the first page that was visible. It was blank.
Alek touched the book's first page gently and flipped to the next page.
There were signatures. A lot of them, covering the second and third page. Then there, the sisters saw her grandmother's sign, written 'Mikoto'.
"What is this book, Alek?" Bia asked, curious. "Why is grandma's sign there?"
"It's a family heirloom grandma gave me last time we met her. I don't know why her sign is in here." Alek spoke as she examined every signature. Apart from her grandmother's signature, they looked old.
"Isn't this the name of grandma's mother?" Bia spoke as she saw a familiar name. She knew that was the name of her great grandmother. As, one time, Mikoto showed Bia a picture of her and her mother. And she mentioned the same name that was written in the book in Alek's hand.
Alek wasn't there when Bia had the experience and, she asked. "Is that so?"
"High chance." Bia replied, concentrating on the signature.
"What do you think the signs are for?" Alek asked her sister, who was concentrated on the book like herself.
"I don't know." Bia answered. "Didn't grandma tell you what the book was about?"
"No. She just told me to take it." Alek was done examining the signatures and turned to the next page.
"Why is it blank?" Bia raised her voice next to her sister's ear and got a scowl from her. She quickly apologised. "Gomen."
"I don't know." Alek answered as she turned to another, then to another. She flipped through the pages until the end and found that the book was entirely empty apart from the pages with signatures.
"Alright, that's some crap." Bia said after looking at the last page. "Give me the book."
"No." Alek didn't want to give it to Bia but still, her sister managed to steal the book from her hands without trying that much.
Bia stood away from the bed that her sister was on and, she put the page under the light. She saw there were no tricks like the ones on money and gave back the book to Alek in no time.
"There is nothing." Bia told her sister and went on to her own purple bed. "I think you should call grandma."
"I'll call her in the morning." Alek said and closed the book in her hand. The glass and gold shined under the light beautifully like a moon in the sky.
Alek thought of something and went to the door to switch off the light.
"What are you doing?" Bia questioned, not moving an inch from her spot.
Alek went back to her bed swiftly as she knew where the things were since she had been living in for so long.
"Just wait." Alek told her sister as she prepared the torch on her phone. She lit up the torch and adjusted it so that the glass and gold would reflect the light.
She heard a wow from her sister and, she slowly moved her phone around the book. The cover reflected beautiful art on the walls and, the book shined brighter than before. It was as beautiful as the full moon in the sky.
Alek continued to light up the room with the light and the book when they heard a knock on their door. They both answered the door and, Alek turned off the torch.
"Were you guys sleeping?" Kai asked as he entered the room, seeing that it was dark. The lights from the corridor made Alek wince a little.
"Nope." Alek told her brother.
"We were just talking." Bia added.
"I see," Kai said as he closed the door behind him, shutting the entrance of the light. "I had a feeling you too were doing something in secret."
Alek made a confused face. "What do you mean?"
Kai spoke as he sat down on Bia's bed. "Like there is something that you are doing in here that other people don't know."
Alek made a face at the figure of her sister in the dark, not knowing that Kai had shifted his eyes, seeing everything in the room like in the day.
"Alek, I can see you." Kai told his oblivious sister.
"How?" Alek asked as she could only see the outline of his body.
"I'm a crocodile, remember." Kai reminded his sister lazily and lay on his sister comfortably as he unshifted his eyes. Bia didn't say or do anything and just stayed in her position.
'Oh, yeah.' Alek thought to herself. How can she just forget that?
"Well, I'm not doing this in secret, but if you want to see what we've been doing, I can show it to you." Unaware that Kai had unshifted and was lying on their sister, Alek tried to make eye contact with him in the darkness.
"Mmmm." Kai answered his sister, not moving from his other sister.
Alek smiled in the direction of Kai and turned on the torch on her phone. She brought out the book she had hidden in the blanket when Kai came and did the same thing as before; lighting up the room with beautiful light.
Kai froze on top of Bia as he looked around himself. He sat up and saw himself covered in the lights. A smile formed on his face as he moved his hands in awe. It was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen in his twelve years of life.
Alek saw her brother smiling and, it warmed her heart watching him like that. She didn't know why her siblings were the opposite of her. Quiet, looking cold and cute. Maybe that is because she is too noisy for one family and they didn't need to be like that. Or maybe, because she doesn't act like an older sister.
Bia pushed her brother off of her because she felt her blood not flowing in the area where he was sitting. Kai just rolled off of her and saw his sister smiling like an angel to them. Bia also saw her sister smiling on the other bed and stared at her beauty.
Alek was covered in magnificent reflections. And her smile made her look more angelic than ever to their eyes. They have always seen Alek's smile and laughs, but that was nothing compared to what they were seeing right now. Yes, Alek was always an angel in a human form but, this was like seeing the true Alek.
One of the light reflections was hitting Alek's left eye and, it lightened the colour of her eye. They now look at their sister in a daze.
For a while, they stared at Alek unmoving. Alek was still moving her phone and, eventually, the light that was in Alek's eye disappeared. While she continued to entertain them, they saw something unexpected in the shadow of Alec on the wall.
It looked like a set of transparent wings but, they couldn't make out what it was as Alek continued to move her phone and, they disappeared in a second.
Bia and Kai looked at each other as if to confirm that what they saw was real.
"Umm, Alek could you repeat what you just did, like couple of seconds ago?" Bia asked her sister, trying to sound natural.
"Sure." Alek looked down at the book and moved her phone backwards.
The wings appeared again when she hit a certain spot.
"Alek, could you pause there?" Bia asked in haste before Alek continued to move backwards.
Alek thought they enjoyed the specific type of design that the book created and tried to find it on the walls.
She didn't know her two siblings were staring at the wall behind her as if to pierce it with their eyes.
Bia and Kai were staring at the almost transparent fairy-like wings on the shadow of their sister. Of course, Alek didn't have wings. The wings had the design of the book cover and were lightly coloured by the reflections.
As they watched the wings on the shadow of their sister, they realised that the wings were moving slightly, as if they were breathing. And moving as Alek moved to find the designs that 'amazed' her younger siblings. The movement was elegantly done as if they were part of Alek.
Bia covered her mouth with her hand and, Alek caught that from the corner of her eyes. "Where is it?" Alek asked as she had been looking for it for over ten minutes.
Alek moved her hand and, the wings disappeared in an instant.
"Where is what?" Kai asked his sister when he was brought back to reality.
"The design that you've been staring at!" Alek told her brother. "You wanted me to move them back so that you would see the design again, right? Isn't it why you wanted me to go back?"
Kai opened his mouth to speak but, nothing came out. He didn't know how to reply to that. However, Bia had come back to reality and answered for him instead of him.
"We just saw something unexpected."
"Like?" Alek was eager to see what her siblings saw. "Tell me, I want to see!"
"Do you really want to know?" Bia looked at her sister with seriousness.
Alek swallowed, a little overwhelmed and answered.
"Yes."
