Alek saw her grandmother getting smaller and smaller as they got away from the house. She was a bit emotional. She didn't know when she was going to meet her grandmother again. Alek stopped looking back and stared at the front.
She saw the white car that carried her cousins, aunt and uncle. They were a little bit away from the car she was in.
Kai poked his sister, staring at the car in front to tell her that it was her turn. Alek snapped back to reality. She had forgotten that she was playing Old Maid with her siblings.
She looked at her cards. She had the joker. But it was her turn to pick it from Kai thus she couldn't make him pick it. Alek picked a card from Kai and made a match. Now that she had picked from him, he had only three cards left and, he was smirking.
Alek stared at her sister. Bia had a serious face and, she slowly raised her hand to pick a card from Alek. She carefully touched each card slowly, seeing the expression on Alek. But this time, Alek kept her poker face. Bia couldn't read her sister's face, so she picked a random one.
That random one turned out to be a joker. Bia almost showed it on her face but, she was able to keep it inside her. Alek saw her reaction and, she twitched her lips in satisfaction.
Kai picked a card from Bia and, the joker was now in Kai's hand. Kai's squinted his eyes a little bit but, it turned to normal in a flash. He put the card in the left end so that his sister would pick it. Alek always picked the left end, then the middle ones. Come back to the left end again. She repeated this process the whole time.
As Kai predicted, Alek picked the card in the left end. She saw the card and weirdly moved her mouth. Alek had the habit of moving her mouth weirdly when she was uncomfortable and, her family knew about that. Bia saw Alek's habit and smiled.
"That's called Karma, sis."
"I'll give you karma." Alek squinted her eyes towards her sister.
But in the end, Alek couldn't give the karma to Bia and, she was irritated a little.
Also, Alek lost the game and, those were the two reasons she was not in a good mood.
The rest of the time, they spend their time in the car the same way they did yesterday. But today, Alek started reading a book on the phone in the car. She had been reading this book before even she got into college.
The book she was reading on her phone was about a girl who falls in love with a friend in college. The guy first tried to use the girl but, in the end, he also fell in love with her and, they become a couple.
Alek didn't like the book at first but, she remembered that she would be going to college soon and continued reading and turned out to be amazing.
Aek had read this book several times but, she always liked the part where they confess to each other in the rain. The words they said to each other were cheesy but, they suited the situation perfectly. She now repeated that confession part and smiled again for the nth time.
No matter how many times she had read this part, it still made her smile.
'Now, kiss!' Alek said to the book inside her head. She knew they were going to kiss, but she couldn't help it! In her head, she was holding their head and making them kiss. When they kissed, Alek clapped her hands vigorously and jumped with excitement in her head.
The car reached the restaurant near their house to eat their lunch because they were exhausted from the long drive and, none of them had the power to make lunch. It was still a little early for lunch but, their breakfast was light and, they were starving.
-------------------
After eating lunch in the neighbourhood restaurant, they came home.
They all looked drained from energy and no one spoke after getting out of the car.
Alek was reading another book that she had read countless times during the drive from the restaurant to home. She wanted to continue but, she needed to get out of the car to get into the house. Everyone went straight to their rooms to rest. The house was quiet even though everyone was inside.
Alek and Bia fell on their bed immediately after closing the door after them. They didn't have any strength in them. Right at that moment when she was getting comfortable, Bia's phone rang. It was a message from one of the twins.
Bia took out her phone from her pocket lazily while lying on her stomach on the bed. Both sisters had the same position as each other.
[Have you reached home? We are still on our way to the airport.
Castor.]
Bia immediately began to text back to her cousin in that position.
"Who is it?" Alek asked without changing her position.
"Jin." Bia replied to her sister when she texted him back.
[We have just arrived at home. How many hours until you reach the airport?
Bia]
A few minutes later, the phone rang in Bia's hand again.
[That was fast. I'm glad you guys arrived safely.
I think around an hour or so to reach the airport, few more hours on the plane and half an hour to reach our house.
I will tell you when we reach our house.
Castor.]
Bia smiled weirdly due to her face being squashed on one side. She then turned off her phone and groaned. She still needed to go for her daily run because she couldn't do it in her grandmother's house. She slid off the bed like a worm and went to the closet to find clothes for running.
"Where are you going?" Alek asked her sister who slid off the bed weirdly.
"For a run."
"Oh, have fun then." Alek turned her face away from Bia and prepared to sleep.
Bia saw how her sister was lazy and an idea popped up in her head.
'I will make you run too.' She thought in her mind and smiled thinking about it. She took out her running wear from the closet and went out of the room.
Alek found it weird that her sister went out of the room. Bia usually changed in the room even when she was inside. Also, Alek did the same. They did not mind the presence of each other.
When Alek heard the door open, she turned to look in the direction where it came from. She saw her sister standing in the doorway.
"Aren't you gong for a run?" Alek didn't know why Bia smiled mischievously at her.
"Mom and dad said if you come for a run with me, they will buy that book that you wanted." Bia looked at her sister expectedly. "Unless you don't want to. I can tell them that you don't want to go and the deal is gone."
Alek jumped off the bed and went to the closet to get changed.
"I'm coming! Wait for like a minute and I'll be done." Alek shouted at her sister who was already leaving.
Alek changed her clothes with super speed. She did not care if the clothes didn't match. She looked like a carrot due to her top being a green jacket and orange shorts that she didn't even know she had until that moment. But she didn't even know that she was looking like a carrot. She had worn black sports tights under the shorts so that she would not get sunburns.
Alek ran out of the house to find her sister stretching and she joined her too. Bia had two caps and she passed the white one to Alek and wore the black one for herself. Alek caught the cap calmly before putting it on.
"Umm, I can't run that much... remember?" Alek told her sister hesitantly.
"I know, that's why we are going for a jog today."
"Okay." Alek was going to say that would not make a difference but she held her tongue in her mouth. She had already changed Bia's plans and, she desperately wanted the book.
--------------------
The jog was tiring for someone like Alek, who likes to stay inside the house but it was fun at the same time. Alek never thought a jog would make her this happy.
Because of her foot, Alek was careful when doing sport but, she was naturally good at them. Alek loved to run, swim and do all of this stuff but, it was ended before she could really have fun. She could only watch other kids play and sit at the corner, alone. Teachers would say that it was for her own good.
One time, Alek sneaked with other kids and did the things they did. She was so happy until someone stepped on her right foot and it made her cry in pain. People told her that happened because she did things that she was not supposed to do. Alek was not satisfied with their answers and no matter how many times she told the adults they did not listen.
Since that day, Alek had stopped trying to do sports and became indoors.
Alek had forgotten how amazing it was to exercise and move your body. She had even forgotten why she even jogged.
Alek and Bia were panting in front of the house and they both went into the house with smiles. They entered the door and went straight into their rooms to get showered as soon as possible. Thankfully, the house had two bathrooms.
Alek had finished showering before Bia did and now, she was resting on her bed reading a book on her phone. She was reading a different book about people with powers when Bia came out of the shower.
"How was the jog?" Bia asked her sister.
"It was amazing and it was refreshing. Thanks for taking me." Alek thanked her sister.
Bia then went to her bedside table and brought out a package of chocolate. She looked at her sister and made the do-you-wanna-eat-it face. Alek immediately stopped reading and went to Bia's bed. She almost tackled her sister holding the chocolates.
Bia laughed a little seeing her sister's reaction.
"This is great!" Alek put the chocolate in her mouth and exclaimed. "Where did you get this from?"
"A shop I found when I was running like a week ago." Putting chocolate in her mouth, Bia smiled at the sweetness that was giving her energy.
"Ahh, I feel like eating this all day." Alek hopped another chocolate in her mouth and then put her head on her sister's thighs. Bia didn't care that Alek was now on her lap and continued eating.
After they were done eating, Bia said she needed to go somewhere and left Alek alone. Alek finally went off Bia's bed and walked to her bed. On her way, she didn't see her bag on the floor and kicked it by mistake.
Alek immediately crouched down on saw the family heirloom book that her grandmother had given her.
'Sh*t!' Alek cursed in her head.
