All the way home, the governor kept asking himself: what's wrong with Cassandra? Why did she look at Carlos like she was carrying so much pain? Have they had a relationship in the past? The thoughts picked and bit at him, endlessly.
He liked Cassandra; he did not want to share the woman he loved with any man.
"What happened to Cassandra?" The governor asked aloud this time, in a soft voice, so that the private driver glanced at him.
The governor did not notice he was being watched. He just looked to the side, breathing against the glass. He had long been a widower, about ten years; he was now almost sixty, but he wanted another marriage.
"Why does Cassandra seem to hate Carlos Xavier? What is Cassandra's relationship with him?"
If it was true that Cassandra had a relationship with Carlos, the governor would not hesitate to make sure the entire project proposed by the Xavier family would fail.
