Cassandra was walking with Haruka, her private secretary. She walked down a corridor familiar to her. She was intent on seeing the governor.
"Haruka, I'm going to the toilet for a second," she informed her assistant.
Haruka looked around, and then at the waiting room that was nearby.
"Well, Miss Cassandra, I'll wait there."
The waiting room was a good distance from the restroom.
While Cassandra was in the toilet, Carlos went into the men's restroom, and then into one of the cubicles. He stayed inside without doing anything, silent. He just wanted to run away, holding back the shame.
His breathing came hard and harsh. His knees still felt limp, his cheeks felt as if he had just been hit by a hard object.
"Congratulations, Son!" said his father on the phone. Carlos just got word this morning that he was asked to come to the governor's office immediately.
