Hertwig's eyes widened as he heard the real secret behind their suspicious attitudes. Nancy grabbed Samuel's wrist and tried to pull him up to walk away, but he remained seated.
"You told me to say what was on my mind," Samuel looked up at Nancy.
Nancy's eyes widened, "Not like this…" She murmured in disbelief.
Hertwig hadn't been able to process the situation yet. People had shifted their attention away from them. The waiters showed up with their food on the table. Everything was messy.
"I think," Hertwig whispered in a wavering voice, "I think we should just eat."
He could tell what was happening. He could understand why Samuel quietly left two years ago. He understood it so well that the only thing he could do right now was to eat.
