Samuel exhaled. "Please do not leave me."
The slow ticking of the clock seemed to match its pace with both the hourglass placed on top of the bookshelf behind them and Nancy's heartbeat. It all synchronized for a split second before disrupting the balance.
"Is that your uncertainty?" Nancy asked straightforwardly. She wanted to get to the bottom of his uncertainties tonight.
"One of many," Samuel replied slowly. "Can you promise me?"
"Yeah." Nancy shrugged lifelessly. "What's so hard about staying?" She asked mockingly.
Samuel nodded. "Thank you."
Nancy wasn't sure if he hadn't picked up on the insult or if he pretended to play dumb. Either way, she was done with this conversation. She laid her palms straight on the ground and stared at the ceiling. The reunion was really not how she had imagined.
