After college and a mind map containing questions about David bigger than the Pacific Ocean, Nancy furiously sat in the car when she saw Amy conversing with Samuel over the ends of the car window.
"Can you drop me too, Professor?" I was going to go straight to Nancy's house today." Nancy overheard Amy saying as she sat in the passenger's seat.
"I would love to help. However, unfortunately, we must visit somewhere else," Samuel answered, only to be hit on the shoulder by Nancy.
"Come in, Amy," Nancy called Amy inside, showing Samuel the death glare. "Where the hell are we going anyway?"
"I am not certain if I should mention it or not," Samuel replied with hesitance.
Amy sat in the car as Nancy wouldn't stop eying her down.
"Say it," Nancy ordered. "She knows."
Samuel widened his gaze.
"I believe I had told you to keep this confidential." Samuel sternly narrowed his eyes.
He was cute when he pretended to be mad.
Nancy enjoyed the look on his face for a second before she shook her head back to reality.
"None of your business. Tell us now. Where are we going?"
Samuel sighed deeply to show his disappointment. But Nancy paid no attention.
"We are headed to a District Attorney. So we may…" He hesitated, but Nancy raised an eyebrow to create pressure. "So we may file a suit against Sebastian."
"Don't worry, I won't spill it like Nancy," Amy assured Samuel while being seated in the backseat.
Samuel passed a sigh yet again before he started to drive.
"Shall I leave you home separately?" Samuel asked Amy politely.
"No," Nancy quickly said. "She's coming with us."
Nancy wanted to show Samuel that she didn't trust him at all. For that, Amy had to accompany them.
"You know you don't have to worry that much about her." Amy still tried to assure Samuel.
"Amy. Whose side are you on? Mine or his?" Nancy was triggered.
"His." Amy bluntly replied. "Because you've got microscopic brainies. I go for the big ones." Amy concluded with a leer.
"Huh?"
Nancy scoffed loudly, loud enough so everyone out on the road could hear them.
"He has a subatomic brain," Nancy concluded.
"No way!" Amy kept up. "He has a brain as big as the Statue of Liberty!"
They were college students. Yes.
"We are here." Samuel sighed before stopping the car in front of the Prosecution building.
The big and busy District Attorney's building was standing there, right in front of them, but Nancy's head was filled with something else.
Samuel took out an insignia from the dashboard before making it to the entrance.
The girls followed him without a clue.
Samuel showed the insignia to the guard. The guards quickly opened paths. The girls followed him inside till he made his way to the reception and asked for someone named Prosecutor Marco.
"He has a guest over. Let me make a phone call." The receptionist replied before making a phone call. "They're asking for your name, Sir." She asked back.
"First Sgt. Samuel Rogers," Samuel said bluntly.
Sergeant?! Nancy's curiosity rang harder than ever. She wanted to know more. He was just 23 years old. How was he a first sergeant at such an age?
Samuel took his phone out to text the prosecutor they were meeting beforehand.
"Alright, Sir. I will lead you to his room."
They then followed the receptionist to the District Attorney's room.
Before opening the door, Samuel knocked as he recalled the prosecutor was having guests.
He then held the doorknob and opened it to find a familiar face.
The phone in his hand subconsciously fell, causing everyone to be attentive just at him.
His hands trembled as he failed to move his sight away from the 'guest'.
"S-Samuel, Come in!" The District Attorney called him inside, seemingly.
"Samuel?" The guest whispered his name before eyeing him down from the corner of his eye.
Samuel's trembling hands quickly rose to his forehead in the form of a salute.
"Sir, yes, Sir." Samuel hesitantly muttered with all his might, despite being able to let out only a whisper.
The guest stood up with a grim expression and walked over to Samuel.
"Samuel!" He cheerfully called him.
"Yes, Sir." Troubled, Samuel interlocked his hands behind his back.
The girls could see him tremble like never before.
"It's really you!" The guest exclaimed before grabbing either side of Samuel's shoulders.
His eyes widened as he made eye contact with the guest, and his breaths started to spin away as if unraveling yarn.
The guest eyed him down before moving his hands to the ground to grab his phone. He offered it back to Samuel.
"Join us for a coffee! Come on in." The guest invited them inside.
He eerily looked at Nancy with narrowed eyes, making her tremble. Who was this man?
"Uh." The prosecutor muttered. "General Bradley, I will keep your words in mind. You don't need to worry about that situation."
General Bradley?!
Nancy looked up to see the man sit back down after receiving them.
This man was the General of the US? And this man made Samuel tremble like that?
Nancy was very confused, so she just decided to observe the situation. Amy, as well, had no idea what was going on.
"Is that right? That lessens my burdens, Mr. Marco." Bradley replied with a smile. "If you don't mind, may I steal your guest here?" He moved his finger in a circle, pointing at Samuel.
The prosecutor looked tense. He cleared his throat to receive a response from Samuel. But Samuel was staring at the ground as if he had seen a ghost.
"I will order some more coffee. Feel free to converse casually in my room." The prosecutor laughed nervously, making his own decisions since Samuel's head was somewhere else.
"Is that right? Great." This General was more cheerful than Nancy had thought. "Should we catch up, Samuel?"
Samuel didn't reply, staring straight into the ground. He could bury himself alive with all that staring.
"Have you forgotten your manners already?" Bradley raised an eyebrow.
"Sir, yes, Sir!" Samuel frantically stood up to realization.
The amount of fear in his voice was uncanny. And the tension in the air was unmatched.
