Chapter 4 - 3- Magic Exists

I have seen someone using magic before. One day, while playing, I and my brother got bruises all over our bodies after we fall into a pit. When we came back, we were covered in dirt and bruises all over our bodies, Leila was horrified when she saw us in that situation. Mother's hands glow like a weak light and after some time all the bruises on your body are gone. Pretty neat right?

After healing us, Mother was like..... let's not talk about our dark past okay. That day, we learn an important lesson in our life, even though our mother is a Goddess reincarnate, brimming with motherly love, just like all Goddesses she too has a very terrifying side to it.

My knowledge about our world came from the stories our mother would tell me and my brother while trying to make us sleep. Our father would also tell us stories, which also gave us some ideas.

In the Etox continent, there are many Kingdoms and empires, ruled by a king or an emperor. The royal families hold absolute control over the affairs of the kingdom. Many powerful families also exist. The world is simply divided into nobilities with authority and commoners.

A few months back, I found a book called [ Introduction to Magic] in your modest library. From the book, I learned that not only magic but also something called [ Skill ] also exists.

In that book, to use magic, we need [Skill], and there are two very popular ways to learn them. One, through proper training, while the other one is the Skill you get when you go through the Awakening Ceremony when you turned 10.

During the Awakening Ceremony, everyone gets a [ JOB ] and [ Skill/s ] associated with that particular job as well. The [ Job and Skill ] we got is said to be [Unique], granted by Gods. The awakening ceremony is performed at the Temples.

There are different kinds of Unique Skills that are associated with a particular job like- Farmer, Cook, Maid, Priest, Alchemist, Architech, Tamer, Merchant, Healer, Apothecary, Seamstress, Knight, Warrior, Aristocrat, Blacksmith, Scholar, Hero, Wizard, etc.

The knowledge I got from the book " Introduction To Magic" was superficial as the book itself was just a brief summary of magic. Unlike aristocrats or wealthy merchants, we don't have enough money to afford magic and swordsmanship, training instructors. Also, magic books or grimoires cost a lot of money. According to our father, they couldn't be bought so easily by anyone.

The children from noble families have training instructors from early on in their life. But, one thing remains the same though, before the awakening ceremony nobody could use magic properly. There are also chances of magic going out of control due to lack of proper control or the body is too weak to withstand the pressure generated while circulating mana to cast a magic spell.

According to " Introduction To Magic", the magic circuits in our body are weak before the awakening ceremony but, we can strengthen them by training mana manipulation techniques which also increased the mana capacity of our body. Of course, it's possible only after we are 10 and got our job and skills during the awakening ceremony.

However, to train mana manipulation and also to increase the mana capacity we need a strong body. So, physical body training is a pre-requisite if you want to become a Great Warrior or either a Great Wizard. Strengthening magic circuits in our body helps in increasing the speed and efficiency of mana circulation, and absorbing mana to restore or increased mana capacity.

Ohh, even though there are many jobs and skills, they can be broadly classified into two major categories:

[ A warrior, who uses mana by channeling it through their body to strengthen/ enhanced their physical capabilities or parameters to fight.]

[ A mage/wizard, who uses the mana in their body as a medium to cast spells like a fireball or water blade etc. depending on the elemental affinity [Fire, Water, Earth, Air] of the magician.]

When my brother, Alex was 10, he went to the town's Temple for Awakening Ceremony with our father. My brother came back a little depressed but our father was rather happy from the looks of it.

Father said, my brother had [Merchant] as his [Job] and got skills { negotiation and charisma}. From the very beginning brother always wanted to become a Knight so, he trained his body and swordsmanship. Definitely, the Merchant is not what he expected.

Our parents did try to cheer him up, they said it's okay, he could still train his body and swordsmanship even without having warrior or knight as a job. And, when he attended the academy in the future, he could learn those skills and become a knight or a warrior.

My brother looked at me and said, " I hope you will get what want when the time comes."

I think, my brother just wanted to get stronger quickly and help our parents, as we both realized by now that we are not that rich to send both of us to the academy without much financial struggle.

By becoming an adventurer, we could earn some money by completing some quests like herbs collection, the monsters, or the demons subjugation. To be able to fight against those monsters or demons, firstly, we need to have enough strength or magic power and lastly to train our skills properly. For example, without proper learning using magic could be very dangerous, if your magic power goes out of control or you overused your magic, which in either case, you could end up dead with an explosion or destroyed magic circuits.

Our father did mention that many people adventurer to earn both money and status, as highly ranked adventurers are treated with great respect even by the King or the Emperor. If enough contributions were made in a particular kingdom, they could even become nobility.

Great rewards come with great dangers, the life of an adventurer is marred with life-threatening situations. Maybe, our parents were happy that my brother got, Merchant as a job because of this.

Our father's job is [ Farmer ] and he has skills like [ Cultivation and Fertility ], which also explains why my father is a farmer even though looks like a trained Knight. Because of his Job and the associated skills, he could manipulate mana in the soil, enhancing the quantity and the quality of the plants or vegetables. Our mother has Herbalist as her job, and their jobs and skills seem to complement each other.

But, I know for a fact, even though our parents have such jobs they are not that proficient, meaning they are either weak ass lazy bums or they are hiding something. However, we know for a fact that the first one is out of the question. We are suspecting that they are hiding something because whenever I or my brother asked about our grandparents they seem to avoid the topic clearly. Also, our mother doesn't go shopping very frequently and we are also not allowed to go to the town either ourselves or with them. The number of times I have gone to the town can be counted on one hand in these seven years of my life.
