Chapter 6 - 5- Let's Go To Temple

"I am getting tired. I wish it will rain soon."

It's summer, me, brother and our father is working in our vegetable field, my older brother Alex complained, as today is especially very hot.

" If you are really tired go and rest below that big tree. I didn't ask for you two to come and help me with the fieldwork. I could have finished myself very easily." Our father said with a smile and I know that he was quite happy when we help him out.

"It's okay, father, we also enjoy helping you out, and it's more like training ourselves."

"But, we should go back home early today, tomorrow Ed-kun has to go to the Temple for his Awakening Ceremony. He needs to rest a bit early."

"Oh, yes, our mother will be very angry too, if we return late." my brother Alex said and continued,

"I think Ed will awaken a great job and amazing skills too."

"Hahaha..... I hope he does." My father couldn't contain the smile on his face.

"Well, I think it will be great if I awaken something that will make me strong, and also, could help me earn a lot of money."

"....Hahaha....." both my father and brother laugh at what I just said. But honestly, I would like that.

.

.

.

"Thanks, boys. You both are of great help. Let's go home."

"Okay" brother and I are both excited, maybe because our mother and Leila-san might have cooked something good for dinner? And for a fact, we all know that mother will cook something nice whenever we went to help our father in the field.

Even though I am 10 and my brother Alex is 13, we are as close as we used to be since childhood. During these years my brother had come to terms with his job and skills. Nowadays, he is focusing more on training and research about his skills and I think even without the job, my brother can still become a great warrior. My brother Alex has a large build from extensive training, he also becomes quite handsome with silver hair and brown eyes, just like our father.

Our father is loading those vegetables [ cabbage, tomatoes, beans, etc.] on the carriage. Maybe because of father's job and skills, the quality of these is top-notch. According to father, if we could sell such quality products in the Capital City, Elsor of our Gratan Empire, we could earn a lot of money.

Father explained further that these vegetables contain some amount of mana in them which helps warriors or magicians in recovering their magic capacity.

Oh, maybe because of the presence of mana in the air or meats and vegetables, the average lifespan of a normal human being is quite long around 300 years, and they maintain their youthful appearance for a very long time too. But for magicians and warriors, depends on the strength and power they hold.

When we got home, mother and Leila prepared a sumptuous meal for us. Father was praising us for helping him with the fieldwork and saying we have grown up so fast.

Both mother and Leila agreed to that saying,

"I remember you guys are this small ( with a hand gesture showing how small we were) when you were born, and it's not that long ago either when you two were so mischievous pulling pranks on me while I was doing my house chores," Leila said with a bright smile but her eyes tear up after a while.

" Ufufu... Yes indeed, they were two little devils always making me worried, whenever you two went outside to play, you guys will return will bruises or scratches all over your bodies."

.

. ..... They continue talking about our childhood and the mischiefs we had caused. Both brother and I are embarrassed to hear those old stories from when we were still small children, making our faces as red as tomatoes.

.

.

After dinner father asked me to go rest early today so I would be fresh in the morning going to the temple. Even though my brother is not going with me, we said goodnight to our parents and Leila, and we came to our room.

I am a little nervous about tomorrow's Awakening ceremony, as it's going to make a big difference in my life whether I like it or not the Job and the Skills I get it totally out of my control.

"Are you worried about tomorrow's awakening ceremony, Ed?"

"Yes, I don't like the fact that I have no control over what kind of job and skills we get."

Hearing my depressing but very adult-like tone my brother started laughing.

"Why are you acting like an old man Ed? You are still too young. You are right we have no control but, we can always train harder and improve ourselves. So, don't worry too much about it."

" Yeah......"

"We have to do our best and grow stronger to help mother and father, you have seen their faces right? when we ask about our grandparents. "[Alex]

"Umm..... they seem to be hiding something from us. But it's not their fault. We are also small so we couldn't help them even if they tell us."

"So, don't be disheartened so easily over something so simple. We have our duty as their sons to help them."[Alex]

"Thank you brother, and sorry for disappointing you."

" Don't be an idiot! who said I'm disappointed in you? Are you asking for a nice beating from your big brother?"[Alex]

Brother was really angry at what I just said. I didn't think before saying what was on my mind. We are very close and we are friends.

"Okay, you sleep now, you have to wake up early tomorrow morning."[Alex]

"Good night, brother."

"Good night" [Alex]

Next morning.

Today, I am finally 10 years old. My father and I are going to the Town center where the Temple is, for my awakening ceremony.

Mother gave me a kiss on the forehead, " Best of luck, Ed-kun. Mother will prepare something nice for you, so whatever Jobs and Skills you get it's okay."

"Thank you, mother," I said with a red face, you don't expect your mother to send you off like that right? It's natural for me to be embarrassed as I am no longer a small kid anymore.

"Good luck, Ed-kun," Leila said with a bright smile, her smile is contagious, so I smile too.

"Good luck, brother. And don't worry too much okay? You will be okay." My brother said with a smile and encouraging me not to be too nervous about my awakening ceremony.

"We better get going now, Ed-kun. Everyone take care."

"See you soon."

Father and I walk toward the Town with the final destination set to the Temple, a place that is taboo to us. So, I am really nervous and also excited at the same time.

[ God! If you really exist, just for today please help me out. Give me a job that can help my father and mother, and we could live a happy life.]

{{ Special Note: Ed's past life memories were very faint when he reincarnated, and they faded growing up. So, until now he has no idea that he reincarnated.}}
