Chapter 4 - Chase

He has always despised Denis for having so much in life. He had everything he was looking for wealth, love, and happiness, while his life was full of bitterness. Up until now, he had no idea how much he hated him. His distress was derived from the fact that he was so close to wealth and yet so distant.

He hated the most because the woman he had fallen in love with was Denis's fiancée, and she chose Denis over him. This rejection was too much to bear to him, and every second that he sees them together is torture on his part.

After three days, mark went to see Dennis before he left for the airport

"Hey man, have a nice trip. We will talk when you land," said Mark to his friend with a deeper meaning

"Thanks, friend. Call me in case you need anything," said Denis as he walked to his car and sped away.

Mark picked his phone and dialed a number

"Robert?" asked Mark

"He just left his place, heading to the airport. You know what to do," said Mark gristly and hanged up the phone. He then walked to his car and left happy and satisfied.

"Now let's see what you will do when you are dead and gone," thought Mark as he drove to his place to celebrate

"Ok. This is terrific. Everything is going as planned. Ha-ha am rich am rich," said Mark happily as he drove

As he snapped out of his thoughts, Mark had to hurry and evade the police before they truck him down for murder and fraud against Denis. The chopper e had hired awaiting him at the airport.

He had done so many unimaginable things to get back at Denis, and in return, it all turned against him.

If not for Ekitela being an obstacle for his every move, he would not be running away as a fugitive of the law. It was not easy to get whatever he wanted when Rand Ekitela was always on his truck. He always reprimanded him. He thought of ways of getting rid of him to no avail. It seemed the manager had his way of finding out things without even being present at the office.

Randy knocked at the CEOs office at the SSD Company one morning and barged inside. Hid red eyes and bewildered face did not conceal his disgust on the man sitting before him before he erupted in anger.

"What do you think you are doing, Mark?

"What do you think I m doing uh uh? Asked Mark Sarcastically to the short man before him

"Dennis trusted you to take care of his business." Stated Randy Ekitela, confused

"What are you insinuating, Randy? Retorted Mark burning with fury

"You are leading the Company to bankruptcy, and you don't even care?" said Randy, and to make matters even worse, the business is collapsing. The most reliable employees of the CompanyCompany, you have fired them. Can't you see the dangers of every action you are taking?" asked Randy with concern and guilt of failing Denis

"Who are you to talk to me like this" asked Mark

"Am the manager of the…" Mark cut in before he could finish the sentence.

"oh, Mr. manager, as of this moment, you are fired. Take everything that belongs to you and leave the business premises in 20 minutes. Your services are no longer needed," said Mark arrogantly as he swung on his chair sideways as he sat backward, placing his legs on the desk and his hands behind his head while smiling

"Fired" exclaimed Randy in disbelief

"You heard me right. Are you deaf or something?

"You can't do this to me."

"well, I have already done."

Emotions run through him pity, hate, fear. He felt like rushing to him and finishing him off but crushed the impulse to dash across the distance between them and squash him. Randy strode to the door instead. He looked back at him for barely a second and banged the door behind him in anger.

Mark flapped across the room, smiling and dancing rhythmically. He walked towards the shelf on the left side of his desk, where he kept his drinks and poured them on his glass to celebrate the downfall of his most significant obstacle in SSD. With Randy out of the way on one will stop him from whatever he was doing.

"Cheer to you Denis, hope you enjoy meeting your dead uncle again, ha ha ha," laughed Mark hysterically. He picked his phone and called Robbert to finish up Randy.

After what Randy had experienced at the office that day, he just wanted to get down at his place and soak himself to drinking. He drove at a very high speed in anger, contemplating everything happening at the Company for the past few weeks.

He had known all along that Mark was terrible news from the start. He saw his envious gaze to Denis the day they met for the business conference.

Denis could not have seen the gaze since he was oblivious of the intention of his best friend. His love for him had blinded him for a long time, and no matter how he tried to warn him, Denis could always dismiss him, saying it is because he does not know Mark well.

Looking at his rearview mirror as he drove, he noticed he got Company.

The car trailing him was not that far, but he could almost see the man on the wheel. He stepped on the accelerator and sped at the highest speed his vehicle could, and then took a left turn towards the Kitale town square. Though he was at high speed, the car behind him was so close that it almost knocked him to the side. He immediately spanned the vehicle around, took a road towards the forest, headed to the Kiplagat Ranch, and drove as fast as possible.

As he looked at the mirror to see if he had missed the car, he suddenly saw a lame goat standing in the middle of the road. He dazed in confusion, trying to turn to avoid hitting the goat and lost control of the car heading to the woods, and almost lashed on the tree trunks ahead of him.

As he tried to drive back to the main road, he suddenly missed a bullet from the assassin. He heard bullets towards him hitting all his side mirrors.

Fear could be seen all over his body, thin sweat dripping on his forehead. He turned the car towards the left of the main road and took another route back to town, and before he knew it, he hit a parked car at the city squire. The accident's impact was so severe that his head was spinning, and blood could be seen dripping from his nose and forehead. The people at the scene run helter skater each in their direction.
