Chapter 14 - Went for the kill

"Hey, Gav." Her friend caught her attention. "I think that guy is checking you out." Kendra pointed with her lips to a man on the other side as they continued to dance to the blaring music.

Gav slowly turned at an angle to the direction Kendra was pointing at and spotted a man sitting with probably his friends, looking in her way. But he could be looking at anyone, she thought.

She did feel as if someone was staring at her, but she could not pinpoint who. The place was jampacked and a bit dark. But she still felt those eyes were drilling a hole in her back.

"He was not looking at me." Gav contradicted her friend, who was as drunk as she was, but she believed she could still handle herself compared to her friend.

She quickly focused on her friend and concentrated on the music as they continued swaying to the loud sound. The last thing she wanted was for someone to think she was interested in hooking up.

She could not break the trust that her parents gave her. She promised to finish college first before she went on into a relationship. She understood why they were very protective of her. And she respected that.

"Fine, if you don't want him. Then he is all mine." Her friend jokingly claimed him, but both knew she lacked the nerve to come up to a stranger and ask him out, even in her drunken state.

But compared to her, Kendra already had two failed relationships. Back when she was in high school and recently when she just broke up with his long-time boyfriend.

While Gav did try to kiss a boy once, it did not feel right. She never did it again. Although she was not closing the possibility of finding the right man, she was not rushing into it either.

"Let us just dance." She told her best friend and swayed to the music, ignoring whoever was watching her.

She acknowledged that there was something in those watchful eyes. They were sending goosebumps all over her body. She felt a sudden heat radiate from how those eyes bored into her skin.

After the change of music, Gav decided that she had enough. She grabbed her friend and dragged her back to their seats to join their other friends.

"Wow, this is the best night ever," Skylar yelled over the music, another of her college friends who joined them tonight.

"Another round of shots." Another friend shouted as they all started taking another glass and emptying it straight up.

Then her friends started singing again, a happy birthday song. She could not dream of a better birthday than celebrating it with her dear friends.

Although she loved her family, she had already celebrated her twenty years with them. Tonight was for her and her night with her friends, whom she considered her other family.

"I think I need to pee," Gav whispered to Kendra, but she was so busy laughing with the rest of the gang that she did not notice what she said.

Gav quickly stood up, thinking she could handle going to the bathroom by herself. She went in line, with at least two more girls standing before her as she waited for her turn.

Twisting and bending, trying to hold it in, was one of the worse situations for a girl in a line to the bathroom. But she had to think of something else before she eventually made a mess around her.

"Hurry up." She mumbled to whoever was still inside the cubicle.

Her mind wandered to the unknown eyes that had watched her earlier. Then, she debated that it might be just her imagination mixed with her alcohol-intoxicated mind.

Her thoughts ended up thinking of a man, his facial features, and his body structure. But her mind conjured the man in her dreams and the one who failed to reveal his eyes.

"Miss, it's your turn." A girl behind her snapped her out of her reverie.

At least her daydreaming diverted her attention from her earlier dilemma. That was it. The man was a temporary diversion. And now, she could forget all about him.

But when she exited the bathroom and returned to her friends, they were all back on the dance floor, dancing the night away. She planned to sit this out, but a man suddenly stood before her.

"Would you care to dance?" He asked in his deep voice. He was not the same man that Kendra pointed out earlier. He looked different in a good way. Much, much better if she was honest.

"Sorry, but I can't dance anymore with my condition." She was a bit sorry that she had to decline. He did look dreamy. But she was not lying, feeling the alcohol taking its toll on her body.

Then again, his presence alone had created a different effect on her. She could feel the excitement coursing through her body as he stood closer to her.

"Then, maybe we can just talk." He gestured for her to sit down. "Do you mind if I join you to keep you company while your friends dance?" He offered.

She looked up at him and then at her friends and spotted Kendra, giving her a thumbs up. It would seem that she was encouraging her to flirt a little. Well, nothing wrong with being friendly, she thought.

"Sure. I guess." She answered with a tinge of hesitation.

He did not seem like a stalker in his appearance. In her peripheral vision, he looked like a very accomplished man. He did not look creepy to her.

On the other hand, she believed he seemed decent and respectable. Somehow, her gut feeling insisted she could trust him. Odd since he was a stranger.

But then again, Gav remembered what his father told her about a man who was a wolf, disguising himself as a sheep. He fooled everyone around him until he had gained their trust.

Then, he went for the kill.
