The darkness began to fade slowly, and now she could see the uneven ground she was running on. But that didn't settle down the fear she felt as she picked up her pace as much as her protruding belly and her care for her child allowed her to do.
Theodora paused, turning her head to look back in the direction from where she had come. She had run far away but not far enough for Zerith to find her if she didn't hurry up.
She gulped, taking a moment to catch her breath. She pulled out a note she was hiding under her dress. She unfolded it and re-read the message in it.
'Our usual place. We are leaving this island.'
Theodora's heart thudded wildly in her chest as she held that note close to her heart. When Filch came to receive Bertha's message, he dropped that crumpled piece of paper on Theodora's bed without Bertha's knowledge.
