As I rested I thought to myself about what the world outside of this dungeon would be like. It's probably a medieval-style fantasy world. But I also wondered what the people would be like and if they were kind to vampires. The idea seemed a little dumb however I could still hope.
After a rest in which I had regained my magic mana, I stood up and opened the doors.
As the great doors swung open I received a notification.
[You have arrived in the twelfth-floor boss room]
As I moved forward into the room the doors shut behind me with a loud bang.
"I hope that didn't alert whatever is in here..." I thought to myself as I scanned the room for movement.
As I scanned, I saw the boss surrounded by six skeletal mages ten skeleton swordsmen. When I focused on the boss, I noticed it was a lich of level 14.
As I moved through the room I placed multiple explosive traps. I planned to attack the mages with ranged magic while drawing in the swordsmen so that they would set off the explosive traps. I could then finish the fight with my sword.
After setting up roughly 10 traps I began my attack. I had been practising different techniques and found that I could use twin casts meaning I could cast two spells at once.
"Twin fireball, twin fireball twin fireball, twin blood spear, twin dark arrow." Out flew a volley of magic spells. Constant explosions of many differing magic types rained down upon the mage type skeletons. This left only the boss, one skeletal mage and 7 skeleton swordsmen.
The swordsmen charged at me while the lich and mage began casting their own spells. The lich used bone magic meaning his main spell was bone spear. The skeletal mage on the other hand used fire magic.
While the mage was strong, none of his fireballs hit me. The lich however, was a different story.
I was hit in the left shoulder by a bone spear and then once again in the right arm.
Pulling the bones out from my flesh, my body began to use the vampiric race skill to start the healing process.
The skeleton swordsmen began closing in and thus set off the explosive traps. They weren't enough however.
Two of them were now standing in front of me. The first one swung its sword at my head, but was instantly parried with my own sword and I pierced its skull.
As the second moved in I became too focused on the current fight and forgot about the magic skeletons. I was hit by two more bone spears and a fireball causing me to drop to the floor. My health bar dropped to just a third of what it was originally.
I needed to activate a skill.
[skill activated: strong bones (+10 strength)]
[skill activated: light feet (40% agility increase)]
As the skeleton swordsman brought down his sword I dodged and sliced the skeleton in half.
Using my increased agility I rushed to the skeletal mage and crushed it under my sword.
I then aimed for the lich. But it wasn't as easy. It still had almost half a bar of health left.
I brought my sword to the lich's side causing it to be flung across the boss room.
It relatiated by casting a spell which brought spiked bones through the floor stabbing through my legs.
This was what true pain felt like. "Twin fireball, twin fireball, twin fireball, twin fireball" I yelled, casting as many fireballs as my magic pool would allow for.
four large explosions rang out and spat dirt and rocks back towards me. The bone spikes retracted and I fell to the floor in pain.
[Boss defeated: level up (+10 stat points)]
With a smile, I began my vampiric race skill regeneration.
...
Soon enough my wounds were healed enough to keep moving forward, however, I was still almost completely out of magic. It didn't matter too much though as I could also use my sword.
The mana which I had recovered would be enough to help me out if I needed it.
I stood up and regained stability. Walking towards the corpses I collected all of the loot and cores.
Nothing from the loot stood out other than a steel greatsword, a mage steel sword and a magic scroll.
I equipped the mage steel sword and placed the iron sword into my inventory. I did the same for the greatsword. After equipping the mages sword I received a notification.
[Mages sword: imbue the mages sword with small amounts of magic to do magic and physical type damage]
"That seems like a pretty good sword than. I'll have to test it out," I thought to myself as I opened up the magic scroll.
[Spell acquired: Bone spikes (tier 2/11) (caster can create spikes made from bone from beneath the target)]
This was the spell which had almost cost me my life. Therefore, this spell was bound to be useful in the future.
Now all that was left was to drain the cores in the hopes of gaining stat points or skills.
[Skill Activated: vampiric drain]
As I drained the cores one by one, not a single notification popped up.
"That's rather unfortunate," I thought with slight disappointment. It seemed that my vampiric drain skill wasn't as good as I had initially thought. Nevertheless, it was still good.
On the opposite side of the boss room was a door which lead to what should be the next floor. I walked up to the door and pushed it open, immediately giving me a notification.
[Floor 13/15]
Only seven floors remained. "I wonder what I should do after I get there," I thought, scratching my head. I had no clue if I would receive a new mission or be free to do whatever I like.
Knowing that the next floors would be harder than this one, I placed all 10 stat points from my level up into vitality. After all, I had almost just died.
....
This floor was another floor filled with skeleton monsters including skeletal mages, liches, skeleton warriors and skeleton archers. Although they remained similar levels to the previous floor, this floor had much more of them. Also, the new monsters were more powerful than the ones on the twelfth floor.
During my time on this floor, I came across a few low tier armours, some of which I equipped. The armour I had equipped was lightweight and good for the stats which I had focused on. I had put on the armour and then covered it with the fire mage robes.
Once I had finally reached the floor boss door, I had levelled up once more placing all stat points into magic. I could tell that the levelling rate in this world would slowly decrease as the requirements to level up increased. Apart from this, I had also gained 3 stat points from the vampiric drain which I had put into agility.
Opening the boss door I instantly saw my opponent. A large skeleton warrior in iron armour wielding a greatsword. Without a doubt, this would be a very tough opponent.
Analysing the monster I noticed the name, 'Orth the cursed Knight level 16'
Even though it was level 16, I was certain it was much stronger than the other monsters I had faced thus far. In this world, it seemed that, like myself, certain races receive more power per level than others. It would only make sense for a dragon to have more power than a human for example.
Moving towards the skeleton I began preparing. This could be difficult.
