I, Rin, am just a regular Japanese high schooler. There isn't a single thing special about me. I'm neither smart nor attractive. That's why, for the most part, I am a regular victim of bullying.
Every day I fall victim to bullying and the like. However, despite my tough life, I have never stopped trying my hardest.
It's currently 7:30 am Monday and I am on a train headed for my school. Today is the first day of mock exams. It was meant to begin on Tuesday, but I had received an email from a teacher that they had changed plans. I studied for hours last night so I should be fine.
"If only I was smart like Mami Chan," I thought to myself. She has been my crush ever since first year. When I saw her on my entrance day I immediately fell in love. Painfully I must admit, she is far too popular for me.
Because of this, I haven't even said so much as a word in my two and a half years of knowing her. "God why am I such a loser," I asked staring at the ceiling of the train.
The train isn't crowded as usual today and that's why I was able to sit down. Usually, I would give my seat to someone else. After all, mum always said to treat others the way I wish to be treated. In the end, however, nobody treats me back that same way.
"*** station, please keep clear of the doors, unless exiting" stated a girls voice through the train's speakers.
This was my station, the closest to my school. I stood up and moved towards the door. Exiting I was met with a cool summers breeze. It relaxed my tensed up muscles. "Haha, I guess I'm a little more nervous than usual," I said as I walked onto the platform.
The train station had barely any people present, and the people who were there were mainly adults. Any teens or children present didn't wear a uniform. It was surprising since it was the main station in the middle of Tokyo city. Four platforms with an underground entrance and stairs leading up to the platform.
"What's happening" I wondered to myself in confusion. "If I recall correctly the mocks should start today. So why aren't there any of my high school's students?" As I pondered this thought, I felt a hand on my shoulder. The hand was small and cold. It was definitely a girls hand.
"Rin Kun? Why are you dressed in your uniform today? You do know that we have today off to study right?" asked the sweet voice of a girl.
"A girls voice. Wait that's Mami chans voice." I said in my head. Quickly spinning around I was met with the prettiest face I had ever seen. "Mami San? I thought... I got an email last night saying that the mock exams began today," I said using every bit of my confidence. I was extremely happy I didn't make a fool of myself since it was my first time speaking to her.
"Huh, I don't know what you are talking about. I think maybe someone is playing a prank on you... Anyway since you're already here, do you wanna come with me to Aki chans house. We have a group and were planning to study today," she said with a smile.
"Wow she really is cuter in person," I thought to myself. If it wasn't for her I would have gone to school for nothing. "But can I really join her study group? I pondered, but in the end, I was just a loser.
Looking down I gave her my answer, "Sorry, but I feel kinda sick right now, so I'm gonna go back home. Thanks for the invitation though..."
As I looked back up she seemed kind of disappointed. Like she wanted me to come. But that's impossible for someone like me.
"I understand. Well, I hope you get better soon," she said in a soothing yet dim voice. It sounded like she was disappointed. However the next moment she was back to her regular self. "See ya at school I guess," she said cheerfully. With this, she left, only turning back to wave goodbye.
Waving back to her I tried smiling. Nevertheless, I quickly stopped after realising how dumb I must have looked.
I saw three kids running up the stairs to the platform. She couldn't see them and they were not paying attention to what was in front of them. As they reached the platform and got closer to I yelled out to her, "Mami San watch out!"
My warning was no use, however, as when she turned around to see what I had warned, it was too late. One of the boys ran right into her, knocking her off the platform and onto the tracks.
"The *** train will pass platform 2, please stand clear of the safety line," said that same girl's voice from the train speakers.
This was not good. She must have hit her head as she wasn't moving. I began running to the area where she had fallen. As the train would soon arrive, nobody dared to help her. It would be practically suicide.
Quickly I reached the area where she had fallen. "Mami San can you hear me?!" I screamed as loud as I could.
Even though I yelled as loud as I could, there was no reaction. "This is bad," I thought to myself. There was only one solution to this.
Without a second thought, I jumped onto the tracks. This was the only way to save her. In the distance, I could hear a train speeding towards me.
As a weak person, I had to use all my strength to pick her up. Everybody had come to the edge of the platform trying to help me. I carried her to the edge and with the help of the people, she was safely lifted out from the tracks.
A feeling of relief washed over me as I moved towards the edge. But at that same moment, everyone moved away instead of trying to help me up. The next second I heard a horn and screeching brakes.
....
Black, everything went black. I couldn't see anything around me. I also couldn't feel anything. Reaching for my face I felt nothing. There was no feeling of weight in my arms or the sensation of touch in my fingers.
"What happened, where am I?" I asked for anything which may hear me. But my voice was swallowed by the dark and empty void.
As all the possible answers to my question began going through my head I heard a voice.
It was the voice of a young man, "Rin, I feel sorry for you. I really do..."
All of a sudden the void changed to a white room and in the middle was a tall man with long blond hair. He was beautiful in every sense of the word.
"Who are you? Where am I? What happened to my body?" I questioned. Nothing was making sense right now, so it was only natural I wanted answers.
"Rin my son. I am God, this is the entrance to heaven and you just died saving that girl you liked," said God in a gentle voice.
His voice seemingly had the ability to calm those who heard it. I now felt a lot more comfortable. "I wonder how mother and father will take this. I hope they don't miss me too much," I said with slight worry. They were the only ones who had ever truly been there for me.
"Like I said earlier Rin... I feel sorry for you. Not everyone lives such a tough life. you were poor, bullied, depressed and alone. Yet you managed to stay kind to everyone no matter what," he said as though he was thinking about something.
"Well, mother and father were probably the ones responsible for my kindness. God, excuse my rudeness, but is something wrong?" I asked out of curiosity. I had seen how his face looked a little troubled.
Looking up from the ground, he stared at me. "Even after all this, you remain positive. Why?" he asked.
"Well, I saved someone's life. What better way to go out than that haha," I said before laughing a little. I was taught from a young age to put others before myself so it was only natural I would feel this way. Well, that and the fact that I didn't really have anything to live for in the first place. It wasn't like I was a perfectly good person.
"I see, I see. In that case, I have decided. You won't enter heaven. You also won't enter hell. I haven't done this in a very long time so be happy about it. You are going to be reincarnated in another world.
"Wait really?" I asked with surprise. I had only expected to make it into heaven, but this, I much preferred.
"I'm happy to have met you Rin. I haven't met someone like you in a long time. Have fun," God said with a great smile.
"Wait-"
