Chapter 48 - - Name

The old man was stunned at this boy which was standing in front of him. In only an instant, he had gone back to the appearance of a mere normal cultivator aside from his hair and eyes, which could be described as out of the ordinary, but nothing else stood out.

However, the old man was extremely observant despite only being entirely without cultivation. He was crippled many years ago, but he still retained his senses and state of mind which he used to have, which was not reliant upon having cultivation. He happened to notice the ring on Will's finger. However, he did not say anything about it despite being curious. He obviously knew that it was a spacial ring, and that it was special based on the winding river of pearl on it with a section of red floating around it. He could also tell that this was the same type of ring which Eissa had, and that she had most likely given it to him. However, he knew that he would get no answer as she had likely not gotten an answer herself.

Will could, of course, sense his curiosity, but he could not tell that the curiosity was also towards his ring and assumed it was simply curiosity about where he came from and who he was.

However, he quickly recovered from his surprise and curiosity and recovered the air like state which he had before. But the moment that he did, he noticed that Will lost his focus on him and could not seem to find him or tell that he even existed at all. This quickly raised his curiosity again as he had not let off any aura at all since the beginning which meant that he could not track him from his aura. But the moment that he got curious again, he noticed that Will instantly locked onto him again and that he knew exactly where he was.

When he saw this, he could not understand it in the slightest as he knew that there were no bloodlines that he had ever heard of that sensed emotion. He obviously knew that Will could sense emotion, but he had no explanation. As such, he could only put it aside for now and try to figure it out later.

As he once again resumed his air like state of mind, Will once again lost focus on him again, but he knew that the old man was still in the room because he figured that the old man would not simply leave unannounced.

Suddenly, the old man's voice rang out.

"You can call me Old Snow. What is your name, young man?"

At this moment, Will remembered that he had never formally introduced himself to anyone since he received the ruby heart and was transported here from his original home. He had never even told Old Man Dai his name despite the kindness which Old Man Dai had showed him. This was not because he did not want to tell his name, but rather because he did not want to attract attention and have his name spread across the Scorching Sun kingdom. Instead, he preferred to be the mysterious guest of the king who no one knew anything about.

However, the situation was now different and he would be considered a nobody in the sect considering his cultivation in comparison to his age. As such, it would not attract anyone's attention if he were to say his name and it would not impact him much even if it spread in the Snow Moon sect.

As such, after a mere moment of hesitation, he told them.

"My name is Will. I have no family and no name given to me, so this is the name I chose for myself."

This sounded horrible, but it was the truth. He was an orphan and in the kingdom under the rule of the evil dictator, orphans who had not had a name given to them would be referred to as numbers. Will's number was 13. Once the orphans were old enough, they would choose their own names and get rid of the numbers. He had chosen Will as his name because will was almost the same thing as hope, which he had an almost infinite amount of. Will and endurance to go on could be considered a form of hope and therefore he felt that this name suited him.

As such, he ever since had been named Will, and he had never had any family nor anyone who cared for him. The first one to ever show kindness to him was Belle, and he had no clue as to whether she was still alive or not. The second one to ever show him kindness was Old Man Dai, and he had no clue whether or not he was still alive either.

The third to show him kindness was Eissa, who had saved his life and bestowed him with multiple opportunities as well as bringing him to the Snow Moon sect. She had a cold demeanor, but he knew that she was not as simple as that. He had not told her his name either, but she showed no reaction when she heard it for the first time. However, this was what he had expected from her based on her demeanor.

However, he had no clue what Old Snow in front of him would be like considering that he could not sense any emotion from him at all, which meant that he could not tell his character like he could for others. As such, he naturally would not trust him as he had seen people kill their own families right in front of him. This world was extremely cruel and those who trusted too easily would be eaten up by it. As such, he naturally would never trust Old Snow without a reason.

When Old Snow heard what Will said, he could not help being saddened. He could tell that this boy was raised in terrible conditions and that he had only awoken his bloodline later and probably gotten out of that situation because of it. In this case, he was partially correct. In Will's case, he had gotten the ruby heart under circumstances that he did not understand, and it was only because of the ruby heart that he had even gotten out alive. Otherwise, he would have certainly died.

Old Snow had seen similar situations. It was far too common for his liking, but as he had been crippled long ago, he could do nothing about it. All across the world, there were children who grew up without parents or even a name and only lived to be slaves for those above them and more often than not ended up being beaten to death by those people or worked to death without ever getting another chance at life.

However, this was the way of the world. The strong trampled over the weak and killed them without regard. There were very few people who cared about those weaker than themselves. Rarely did those weak people get the chance to rise above them.

However, putting this thought aside, Old Snow spoke.

"It's a fitting name,"

The next moment, Will perfectly calmed down. There was no trace of the sadness which had been evident only moments ago.

Now, there was a pure calmness which radiated from him, which made him seem in tune with the universe around him.

He had been brought up in pitiable circumstances, but he had decided that he would never live that way again. He would never let someone tread on top of him ever again.

"We should move on to the point of why I brought him here,"

Eissa's cold voice rang out and broke the conversation that they were having. However, neither one of them minded since both their minds were wandering at this point and they needed to focus on why she had brought him here. What she had said was rude, but Old Snow and Will both knew that this was just how she acted and it was not her truly being rude. However, both had different reasons to think so.

Both of them knew why she had brought him here; to bring him into the sect.
