"It's gonna be alright, baby
It's gonna be alright, love"

The noises from the other side of my door become louder and I know they don't belong to Mark.
"Find that bitch!" someone yells.
In panic, I dial Mark's number.
Ringing.
My bedroom door busts open, revealing a large man with tattoos on his neck and all over his arms. He's wearing all black and has a gun in his hand.
Ringing.
"Found you." He smirks.
"hello? Alice? Please come back, let's talk."
In absolute shock, I stay frozen.
"Alice?"
The large man comes closer to me and picks me up, aggressively. This causes me to yell.
"Alice? What the fuck is going on?"
I scream one more time before the man covers my mouth with a damp cloth.
With my lips tucked in tightly, I hold my breath. I've watched enough crime movies to know that this cloth has been soaked in something to make me fall asleep.
I grab onto his large and hairy arms in attempt to move them from my mouth but fail miserably. I hold, and hold and hold my breath until I can't any longer.
I take a long inhalation through my nose.
Slowly and reluctantly, darkness consumes me and I fall into a deep sleep.
-MARK-
"Alice!" I yell for the second time, still no response.
I quickly grab my keys and rush downstairs, into my car.
While driving, I dial Frank's number.
"Hello?"
"Frank, I thought you have eyes all around the building?"
"We do?"
"Then why the fuck did it sound like Alice just got kidnapped?" I yell.
"What do you-"
"Check all the buildings surveillance cameras."
"Hang on a second," I hear typing in the background "Shit, all the cameras on her floor are out."
"You were supposed to be watching her!" I yell before sighing in frustration, "Send a team up to her apartment, check for any clues. Search the whole fucking building, inside and out. I'll be at our station, meet me there." With that I cut the phone.
Anger, sadness, determination. All these emotions ferociously dance salsa inside of me in a beautifully uncontrolled sequence.
Anger: I'm angry at myself for not protecting her enough.
Sadness: I left things off so badly, and now she's off somewhere and I can't make it right.
Determination: This is the strongest of all of them. I will, with every atom inside of me, find Alice and when I do, I will protect her from all the bad things that even attempt to get to her.
I make my way into the apartment where we have our station.
Swinging the door open, I yell "Everybody in the meeting room right fucking now!"
Everyone rushes there way into the meeting room.
"Looks like you're all fucking pathetic at your jobs-" I see someone in the back of the room whispering while smiling "You." I point at him making him stop, "Am I boring you?"
"N-no sir."
"Are you sure? Because it really looks like I'm boring you." I fake pout and he shakes his head, fearfully "Why don't you leave this room and find something exciting to do." I smile.
"W-what sir?"
My face returns to its annoyed state "You're off the fucking case. Leave now before I get even more angry."
He nods his head and runs out of the room.
"Anyone else have better things to do?"
The room remains silent.
"Good." I clear my throat "Alice McAllen has been kidnapped."
Everyone gasps.
"Don't act so shocked. If all of you were watching the fucking cameras like I had asked you to, this wouldn't have happened. This" i point to the ground, "Is partly your faults."
The room falls shamefully silent again.
"Now, I need IT to track down the bracelet." They nod their heads but don't move "Now!" I yell making them rush out of the room.
"I had Frank organize a team to search her apartment building for clues. I need the rest of you to go around every corner of this town, searching for witnesses or looking through cameras, do everything you can for a lead."
They all nod simultaneously and exit the room, leaving me alone with my many emotions.
Determination.
Hang in there baby, I'll find you.
-ALICE-
Open.
Close.
Open.
Close.
My heavy eyelids attempt to open only to fall shut once more.
Open.
This time they don't close, instead they widen as they are greeted by the most horrific sight ever.
I'm in an old warehouse that looks like it hasn't been used in years.
There are stains on the wall and not a single light in sight (apart from the lamp seated on a desk in the corner). The tiny, rectangular windows are high up and most of them are broken, leaving no negotiation for escape but some well needed illumination by the moon and the stars.
Flashes from what has happened to me suddenly flood my brain.
I was kidnapped by a scary large man with tattoos, but why?
"Aha! You're up! Sleeping beauty has finally arisen." A feminine voice says from behind me.
The sound of her heels echoes as they gallop against the cement floor.
"I was getting worried you weren't going to wake up soon enough." The voice comes close and I recognize who it belongs to.
I gasp, "Mom?"
She makes her way around and in front of me to sit on the chair before me "In the flesh." She smirks.
"Why would you-" she cuts off my shaky voice,
"Shh, my darling Alice, don't stress your mind over the why's and the how's. Just know you here and luckily, alive."
The way she says my name makes my insides churn. "What do you want?" I snap.
"Nothing you can't give." She chuckles as though this situation is humorous. She rises from her seat, "If I was to tell you what I want now, then this whole thing wouldn't be fun anymore would it?"
I sigh in annoyance. My mother never gets straight to the point, unless she's just making one of her snarky comments. But when it comes to scolding me or punishing me, she spoke in parables to punish me even more.
Considering that she's about to tell me another one of her long and boring stories before getting to the point, I know that she has the intention of torturing me and I really don't want to figure out what that punishment is, or even why I'm receiving it.
Mark, if the universe send's you this message, please come quick.
