Chapter 2 - About Her

She wasn't the fastest or the strongest girl among her peers. She was pretty without knowing it, a bi-product of being bullied for years. It did not help that her mother always took the opportunity to tell her how she could improve herself, while constantly encouraging her to play up her accomplishments when she was with her peers.
Without any older siblings to guide her, the girl felt lost in every social interaction, and typically went against all inherent reactions and engagements with the people around her. At school she enjoyed her studies, and especially enjoyed losing herself in a good book. Because of the immense anxiety she experienced when it came to academics, she did not test well, and therefore thought that she herself was not very bright.
Little did she know, when she was only five she was proclaimed to have an IQ of over 140, however to ensure she did not become arrogant, her mother hid this knowledge away from her. She never grew up with a best friend, there were people who always came around and eventually went a bit wacky on her in the end. So she found herself in the corners of rooms, longing to engage with the bright and vibrant sounds coming from the middle, made by all of the happy people. But those interactions always left her bewildered and lost, unable to keep up with the pop culture references she was not allowed to know about, and too timid to assert her friendship in any direction.
In short, she was like a beautiful flower, growing on a mountain top. In plain sight of everyone and everything around her, but unable to reach anything she could see. Only to observe and never to be touched or appreciated like those in a garden, who enjoyed the familiarity of onlookers and passers by . She was alone, so very very alone.
