As they walked into the house, they were warmly welcomed by the aromatic scent of fresh flowers and the marbled floors as they walked down the corridor which was carefully decorated with paintings that seemed to have been collected over centuries. Something antique about them had a romantic feel to it. this corridor made one feel like they had walked right into a painting.
The ceiling was not less artistic as they were also covered in paintings that looked like they told a story . Brie couldn't help but stop to take a good look at what happened in the story that the painting told, she didn't understand much about paintings but something in the artist's strokes made the story very sad,and for some reason it made her very sad.
"Oedipus Rex" came a voice behind her startling her.
"what?"Brie said as she didn't quite catch what he said.
"Oedipus Rex, the painting is about the story of Oedipus Rex the king of Thebes". Lucan explained
"That's such a sad story, I cried whenever I read it hoping that their fates would be somehow changed even by an author. I mean no matter how much or how far the poor man ran, he only seemed to be running to the prophecy that would only destroy his life, how cruel fate was to him..but there's nothing like changing fates, how sad." April elaborated.
"It is really sad indeed, and the artist did justice to the story". Brie said
"But Mr McCain, is there a motivation to painting this story here, I mean something must have made you do it not that it's bad or anything it's just sad and .... I hope you don't mind" April trailed off and unexpectedly her answer was followed by an awkward silence.
Brie turned to face Lucan who looked like he was taken aback by the question. she had also wondered why a person would have such a vivid constant reminder of such horror and sadness, she didn't know much but this was like an emotional masochism.
"Alright that's enough with the story telling,I'm so old but I've never heard of no Oedipus Thebes, but one I've heard is that dinner is served and a certain Bany made it "Bany said with a smile as she completely diverted the conversation.
"Now that you've said it I'm suddenly having a weird craving for a pasta dish" April said as she held her grumbling stomach which made everyone laugh.
April held Brie and pulled her along as she half ran into the living room following the nice scent of a hot meal which she wasn't sure was real or imaginary .
"Are you okay ?" Bany asked Lucan who was still looking at the painting.
"it's a sad story right?" lucan said without looking away from the painting.
"Now that I think about it Oedipus did nothing wrong, his life was already decided and it was one he couldn't escape " Bany said.
"Much like mine "he said this time looking away from the painting and at Bany.
Bany shook her head in disagreement. "No, not you, you have a choice. and at the end of the day you should not let what happened in the past decide how the future will be,only then will you be Oedipus " Bany said but much to her expectations lucan just gave her a small smile and left.
