Debby gazed at him, rushing out of the room at the sounds of his outrageous sobs but almost too quickly, she returns again to grab him by the shoulders pulling him into a big hug whilst standing. He wailed louder in her arms quaking and grunting as she moved him gently towards the bed, where he rested his head on her thighs. She rubbed his head in a soothing manner and then, she heard him whisper "Am sorry Mummy, I couldn't stop him. I couldn't help Suzzy".
Debby let the tears drop from her eyes at the realization of how damaged this man was. He was a CEO of a fortune 500 company, her husband, her boss, a strong man to the world but here he was as a damaged man whose head was on her thighs crying and muttering unclear sentences. She knew he needed help professionally and she lacked the psychological skills to do so. Hence she resolved that even if it entails attending professional counseling, she would ensure he gets the required help even if their relationship does not prosper beyond this level.
She continued patting him on the head, wiping his tears with her hands as he sobbed himself to sleep still muttering "sorry Mummy" intermittently. He was trapped as a boy and knowing he couldn't grow beyond that traumatic experience left her feeling devastated. Debby moved him carefully raising his legs up on the bed till his head rested calmly on the pillow and he was still sleeping. Covering his feet, she tucked the duvet around him, while increasing the air conditioning system to keep the room very cold.
She slipped out of the room with her phone to ensure the affairs of the company ran smoothly without interruption, despite Adebola's absence in the office. After making the calls to the Heads of department, she asked Felix to bring his to-do list and appointment schedule home to her stating that Adebola was ill and unable to attend to his work.
Afterwards, she ate breakfast with Shade who decided to leave after the meal seeing Debby looked better this morning than the previous night as she teased her. "I can see you missed your husband so so much, hence you were very down emotionally when he travelled. Now just one night with him and you are here, smiling like a Queen".
"Look at your mouth. Please go to work and Greet your Ernest for me." Debby replied her teasing while laughing.
" I will, but please don't get pregnant on top of this one okay?" Shade replied her which brought a round of laughter amongst them.
Fiona brought a packaged lunch for Miss Shade to take to work while they were still having breakfast and this pleased Debby greatly.
"Thank you so much Fiona for surprising me with your level of hospitality" Shade said as she gave Fiona a hug.
" Thank you so much Fiona" Debby added which elicited a funny how from Fiona letting them know she was at their service.
Hours later, Debby took breakfast to Adebola who was still in her room but not on the bed anymore. He was in the bathroom taking a shower as she set the tray on the table in the room. This room looks like a hotel suit, spacious with a large bed. It also has a bedside refrigerator, a reading table and chair alongside a couch. The bathroom and the toilet were separated compartment which just verifies how big the room was.
However it's not as big as the room she occupied upstairs, neither does it compare to the apartment that Adebola calls a room. She smiled at how beautiful the mansion is and wondered how long it took Adebola to build such an edifice.
Coming out from the bathroom at that same time of her musings, with a towel wrapped around his waist, his wet hair, drizzled water running down his shoulder making him look like a swimming trunk model. Adebola is indeed a gorgeous man.
"I need to go upstairs to my room. I want to use my long towel. I also need change of clothes" Adebola requested.
"Let's go" Debby urged him
"But I thought the doctor said no climbing of stairs." He argued
"I am okay Ade, let's go"
"Please I don't want emergencies, Just stay downstairs I will come back". Adebola insisted
"No, I said let's go together".
After the back and forth argument, he allowed her climb upstairs with him. Entering his room, he stripped of the towel and she smiled as she gazed at his naked behind.
A knock on the door startled Debby and she wondered who was at Adebola's room door.
"Yes who is it.?" She asked.
"Madam its Fiona"
"Yes Fiona what do you want?"
"Mr Fred is here already ma. He says you are expecting him."
"Oh thank you, we will be downstairs shortly. I have been expecting him." She said the last part to Adebola who was just staring.
In a few minutes they walked down the stairs together to meet Fred and another elderly looking man who sat close to Fred.
Exchanging pleasantries, Adebola hugged Fred and this brought a puzzled look to Fred's face. He had already assumed that they would be at war but the hug was unexpected. Introducing the other male, Fred called him a professor in the guidance and counseling department from the Lagos state university with over 31 years of experience.
Adebola politely shook the man's hand who was also a first responder at the state psychiatric hospital.
" He is here to talk to you professionally. He is discreet and no one needs to know that you are seeing a shrink. But you need this help my friend" Fred explained to Adebola while they were all seated.
"I am...mm" Adebola stuttered.
"Ade I know it's alot to handle but it will do you good" Fred encouraged him.
" It's alright" Debby announced standing up for his side after some seconds of silence.
" If you don't want to see the shrink, it's alright. No one would force you but I will not give you a child when you are this dysfunctional. So make up your mind Adebola because I will walk away" Debby threatened walking away from the living room to her new room downstairs.
