Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 3

The death of Marcus changed Debby's life forever. She mourned him daily and would probably do, for the rest of her life. Little meals, barely out of the house, less sleep and she was loosing weight drastically. However, as the popular saying goes, life must go on, Debby was pushed by her parents, friends and even Marcus's mother to get on with her life. They were greatly worried about her mental health as they knew that Marcus would have wanted her to happy. She hardly answers her telephone calls and when she does, it was with haphazard replies.

Though it was so hard at first because all she did was reminisce about old times, but gradually, she had to accept the fact that there was absolutely nothing she could do to bring him back. He was gone forever.

She began with long walks every evening with her friend Shade. It helped her to stay fit physically and mentally. Shade would sometimes bring up topics to enable her start a conversation with Debby but she could barely talk at first. Gradually, she was able to open up, though not deeply but she kept up conversations.

It's been 6 months since her fiancee died.. Debby could sufficiently say she had grieved and resumed the regular activities for a productive life that she had planned for her future.

Fortunately for her, she got the job as one of accountants of Xris's shipping company belonging to the billionaire Adebola Adedotun!!!. At first, all she did was show up to work, record the online business transactions for the day, kept up with her share of bank payments.

However over the period of time, Her immediate supervisor got to admire and praise her work ethics. The supervisor Mrs Sarah would always tell the other accountants how punctual Debby was to work every day. She also applauded her for every of her neat business transactions details, including summaries and other financial reports.

Debby had gotten to understand Adebola's tax payment format after working for 3 months in the company. She understood the customers request of the shipping transportation services they rendered and this earned her a promotion. She was recommended for promotion by Mrs Sarah and she was elevated from assistant accountants to assistant head of finance position.

This new position required a change of her location to the head office where she would have to work face-to-face with him. "The dreaded billionaire himself" Adebola as most people call him was a topic of fear and admiration at her work place.

Initially she would recall that she usually saw him in church and they barely spoke to each other, how much more, have a meaningful conversation together. This was because she was either working or he was busy talking to someone. They had no reason to mingle as they were both in different classes of life according to Deborah.

On her first day of resumption at the main office, she discovered that Xris's Shipping company was housed on an eight storey building. The receptionist at the 7th floor, Mr Kenny, showed her a freshly decorated, clean, spacious, brown themed furniture room as her office. It was very beautiful and professionally designed to taste. It was a step up from her previous location which brought smiles to her face. She wished in her heart that Marcus was alive. He would have been so proud of her. It's been 9 months since she lost him.
