Chapter 2 - Love At The First Sight

They say love at first sight can't last. Perhaps it was just sheer wonder. A serious feeling like love doesn't sound right.

How can you be sure you love someone you just met?

It's not uncommon to like someone by the looks of them so captivating. Pretty and handsome is actually relative. As time went by, the initial excitement of admiration would be palpable. They can even disappear without a trace.

I thought it would end that way at first. My admiration for his figure may last but a short while, and will disappear with lack of intensity between us.

But that statement was completely false. That doesn't apply to me.

I feel strange too. I mean, how can you feel when you look at her figure at a considerable distance.

Last summer, right when the annual music festival was always held in my city. Southern states are hotter than the north side. It's not much, but it's not much left over when compared with other major cities.

Just like most high school students, especially with me still in the second grade makes me less concerned with how the teaching system works. The typical thing happens during the summer holidays. Parties until morning, swiping bottles of booze, vacationing around other states, or strapping on a bed with a random people.

Well, some of my friends do those things. That's life, they said when I advised him not to overdo it. Young blood boiling, as I was compared. Maybe that's why I don't have too many friends.

The only one who followed me anywhere was this bully, Lucas. Though I call him a nuisance, I am secretly fortunate that his presence does not make me feel lonely.

We are close, but that doesn't mean he will understand how I feel. I mean, what can you expect when you tell someone you like about a friend?

I wouldn't risk telling Lucas that. Seeing from how the man's response to the dance of the men on the stage did little to open my eyes. That even if you're so close to your friend, there's no guarantee he'll understand what you're feeling.

Actually, neither I nor myself understand this feeling.

Too weird and sudden.

I remember very well how I first felt a tingling sensation inside my stomach. During the summer music festival, where not only would local bands perform, but a few other performing arts as well. It is mostly filled out by art students who have sole purpose in their performance. In a bid to win the favor of some big producers, they have also come to watch the talent show and secretly give out business Cards to a lucky group of students.

I heard all that from Lucas. I'd say he's a lot more broad-minded than I am.

But I was too embarrassed to ask about one of the dance groups, which was shocking enough. It wasn't about how compact they danced, or how great the choreography was that made their moves so beautiful.

I can't lose my eye on one thing. He who is always seen in the center of the stage, becomes the center of the choreography, the center of all attention. The blonde-gray hair on the seems to wave slowly as her body spins more and more. Moving from one side to the other, the transition looks beautiful and elegant. The shirt clinging to it was quite tight, making each indentation in his body clearer. His arms were thin enough for a man, but in my eyes it was beautiful. Although we are miles away, I can miraculously see how his fingers are chiseled with lentils. As well as his chest, not too much—

Eh?

I immediately turned my eyes in another direction. It's too far for a stranger like me to observe a man's body in such detail. I feel ashamed of myself. How morally unethical is my view to reflectively walk down every inch of a strange man's body.

But I have to admit, the man is quite charming.

Strange feelings haunted me after that. Strange stirrings I had never felt before, now I often felt each time without realizing my mind was upon him.

Since the time of the meeting, over a year has passed. He and I never saw each other since. Of course it's perfectly natural. How can someone as mundane as me be reunited with that shining star figure? Though the city is small, the chances of encountering foreigners for the second time are rare.

It's just a feeling of awe, nothing more.

Over and over I keep saying it whenever my mind gets out of control. In a sense, it could have been a reflection of the man at any time, unexpectedly.

It's actually kind of stressful. I don't know what to do to deal with the strange fluctuations. It's not the time for puberty. By the age of eighteen, I think it's old enough to think logically.

Love at first sight can never be eternal.

But the denial of reality in the subconscious apparently was not working. When I found myself trapped in shappire's blue eye beads, I realized that this was not a joke.

This is real. I couldn't help but admit that I had fallen too deeply into her figure.

"Akh! It's so hot!" The bass voice is blocking my thought. Lucas was rubbing his left side of his face with his left hand, and the right one was pasting a glass of ice on his temple. "I think we should find some shelter."

"Well, it is summer," I replied. "It would be unnatural to snow in summer."

"Haha. Very funny, man."

Lucas rolled his eyeballs wide. It's like he really can't stand to be in the sun like this.

"I still want to be here."

"Whatever, I'll find a cooler place."

I didn't follow along when that young brunette walked away. It's been quite a struggle considering how many people are still loyal enough to fill this area. Lucas had to push everyone in front of him a little bit to get access to the road.

Poor Lucas.

Actually, one of the reasons I'm here is none other than my standing in the middle. It takes a little extra manpower to get out of the time crowd. I don't want to give up the most strategic spot I've got by waiting a few hours before the show starts. All this I did to get a good look at that man—

Huh?!

The stage has changed Settings, which are filled with bands' equipment. No dance group. There's no one there.

"Shit."

This is all because of Lucas. If he hadn't talked earlier, I wouldn't have lost that guy's last momentum.

Then what should I do? Wait till next year's summer festival?

"No. No more waiting. It's now or never."
