Chapter 12 - Their Boundaries

It is a warm sunny day. The cool breeze found its way through the window left slightly open from last night and greeted the windchimes in the house with glee. It would have been such a lovely sight to start your day unless you had seen the woman you love being kissed by someone else. Kyle wakes up with a pain pounding in his head, but what bothers him the most today is the memory of James kissing Angel in the forehead last night. It would have been better if he stayed asleep during those times. Anything that you don't know will not hurt you; however, fate seems to have the best way of hitting you from the backdoor- Kyle happened to wake up at the very moment of that kiss. He pounds his head, half because of a hangover, while the other half is with the hope that maybe by doing so, the memories that bother him will fall out of his head, left to be forgotten. "Hey, you're awake." Angel greeted Kyle with a smile. She is wearing white oversized cotton long sleeves that run short for her long legs. It is unbuttoned till the second button from the top, which made some portion of her chest peak a little. Kyle's world stop for some seconds as Angel walks towards him. He is sure that she is saying something as he sees her mouth move: took some of the grapes he is holding, put them on her mouth, and waves her hands over his eyes- all in slow motion. Her lips, those heart-shaped, naturally pink lips, make him feel emotions that he had buried deep down for several years. Urges that he shouldn't have, feelings that shouldn't show themselves- all chained underneath him, but those lips are tempting, working as a key that might unlock his own version of Pandora's box "Are you okay" Angel snaps her fingers after Kyle does not respond to her. Angel's snaps made Kyle come back to his reality, of where he should be and wrote a clear line into where he should be not. Kyle cleared his throat, looked away, trying his best to tighten the friend mask that he has been wearing for years," What the heck are you wearing?" he said in an annoyed tone. "Why? It is very comfortable. I like these grapes. I didn't know I have these here," Angel said while filling her mouth with grapes, totally unaware of the battle that Kyle is fighting right at this moment. Kyle holds the grapes over his head, "Change. Someone might hurt their eyes seeing how awful you look on that dirty shirt," Angel tries her best to get more of the grapes, raising her heel while leaning one of her hands on Kyle's chest. " No one will come today, and as if it matters to you, haha," Kyle looked at Angel with sorrowful eyes, he wanted to say something, but he didn't. He just calmly put the grapes down on the counter. Chuckled while the other person rummaged over the sweet fruit, picked his phone and car keys on the table. When he was almost out of the door, thinking he finally won this physical battle, Angel hugged him from the back. "Thank you, Kyle...." Kyle froze. His mind went blank. "I mean, you are always here for me, no matter how busy you are. I am not sure what happened yesterday and what made you so angry or upset, but I want to thank you and be sorry for whatever it is that ...." Kyle interrupted Angel in mid-sentence. "This is very risky, Angel," Kyle whispered, tilting his head towards Angel. "huh?" she innocently replied. Totally unaware of how seductive she is right now and how it is not in the slightest way helpful to the man in front of her who is trying his best to not be moved. Kyle's mind, just like how old computers glitch over some time, stopped functioning. He faced Angel, grabbed her in his arms, pulls her so close to his face that Angel feels his breath and hear how deafening his heartbeat is right now. Angel closed her eyes. Their hearts are both pounding like beating drums. Kyle fixes his gaze to Angel. His firm grip on her shoulders, showing how manly he can be. He wants to give in. He wants to let his body take control of everything, be carefree, seize this day and let tomorrow take care of itself. They would have kissed. It would have been nice. It would have been sensual. But at the last seconds, Kyle made a decision, a decision to suppress he thought, "this is the best," he took a deep breath, tried his best to calm his urges, to control himself. Slowly, he lets go of Angel's shoulders. Puts on the mask he has been wearing for ten years and hides his face again. Kyle pushed Angel away, hitting her forehead, and said, "Change clothes, you annoying piece of sh*t" Angel was stunned and could not speak for some seconds. Kyle tapped Angel's head, "I am not upset with you. You will not be able to upset me no matter what you do. I am upset at myself." "What do you mean?" Angel asked while looking at how sad Kyle's eyes are while uttering those words. "You will not understand; you are not that smart," Kyle said, chuckling while putting some loose strands of Angel's hair at the back of her ears. Angel was confused, but he was used to this. For ten years, Kyle is never an open book. He hides things and is full of secrets but that is fine, at least for Angel. Angel watches Kyle as the latter waves her goodbye. He signaled that he would call her later. She has a lot of questions in mind, but she dares not to ask. Angel believes that everybody has a part in their hearts that is not meant for everyone to see. Everybody has a story that they do not want to share with others, a dark past that is not meant to see the light of day no matter how close another person might be to them, there would always be boundaries that no one should cross and she would not cross his boundaries without his permission. Angel decides to stay on her side of the line until Kyle would ask her to cross. She prays that that moment will visit both of them real soon. Little did she know, that being able to cross those boundaries would also mean a series of unfortunate events for her, for her friend, and for another person with whom she cannot remember her real connections.
