The needle was removed from his finger as Ki waited silently to listen to him.
The man had no choice but to tell what he knew. "I was tasked with observing you. If you make any suspicious movements and reveal an opening I am to kill you. It's the northern merchant alliance that ordered it."
After a while he looked up and noticed that the person he was tasked to kill had silently disappeared.
He climbed back up to his feet and stumbled out of the alleyway looking for a way to escape.
In a distant part of the city he finally found that he was not being followed after several detours.
He looked around the streets once more as he opened the door of the old building and entered.
Inside another man was waiting but he did not seem to be of pure northern blood or a part of the northern merchant alliance.
The assassin walked into the room and showed his wounds to the man. "I was caught and interrogated but I did not give up any information about you. After they left me alive I made sure to check the surroundings in case I was tailed."
The man stood up within the room calmly after thinking for a while and then walked over to the assassin. "Kneel."
The assassin immediately followed the orders and kneeled down.
Deep down he felt a great amount of fear in his heart as he awaited his masters next orders or actions as he knew that he had failed his mission.
The man stood in front of him and asked in a calm voice. "Tell me everything."
The assassin spoke in a hurry. "I followed the target around the city as ordered. I was unable to Identify the target but they made several suspicious movements so I was forced to act. They visited many stalls and businesses and were taking many notes so I believe they are collecting information on slate city and looking for people with potential. One of the groups of people she has visited was the brother and sister that are blacksmiths. When they slipped into an alley I approached but was caught off guard and before I knew it I was on the ground and being interrogated. After I had given some false information to point towards the northerners merchant groups they left me there on the ground."
After he finished there was silence in the room for a long time and then there was a sound of something being removed from inside the clothing of the man.
The assassin began to raise his head slowly but before he could make a movement further his master had lowered their hands towards their neck and a dagger entered.
The assassin looked wide eyed at his master as he slowly turned lifeless as the blood drained from his body.
Little did he know that the blood that was leaving his body looked as if it had hit the floor but in fact most of it travelled through the gaps in the flooring and gathered underneath the building.
As the assassin died the man took out a container and sprinkled a powder onto the body.
The body began to slowly dissolve giving off a foul smell and the man exited the building while remaining vigilant.
In a small voice he spoke as he exited the home. "Not only did he fail his job but he also had the nerve to come back and expose this location. I have no choice but to move elsewhere and abandon this place now."
Not long after he left, a blood mist passed through the gap in the floor and travelled out of the back window towards a figure standing behind the building who had been listening intently the whole time.
Ki stood as she watched the man leave while trying to cover up his identity but she was able to catch a slight glimpse of his face as he left the room.
In a soft voice she spoke. "Corpse dissolving powder… looks like he was desperate to not reveal his identity and get rid of the failed attempt. He really does not want to be noticed so is being as careful as possible."
The man did not expect that his subordinate would fail on this mission and greatly underestimated Ki's abilities so instead of using someone else to meet the assassin he had shown up on his own.
If he had known there was a risk of exposing himself he would of used one of his people to take his place.
Just as the man was leaving the blood mist entered into Ki's runic tattoos on her arms as she watched him cautiously walk away into the distance.
After finishing absorbing the blood she slowly followed behind silently while keeping a safe distance.
