Minister Mei pretended to sleep.
She could clearly hear the window being opened and footsteps approaching her. She heard the ruffling of clothes, the breeze blowing against the curtains and the bodies of humans, and the breaths of three humans.
The masked man on patrol at the time was in the midst of waking up the next to be on patrol, leaving a long enough gap for the three assassins to make their way into Minister Mei's room.
"She's asleep," One of the assassins whispered ever so softly to the leader of the trio.
"Let's get this over with quickly," The leader said.
As they got closer to Minister Mei, a heavy feeling set upon them. It was as if their arms became heavier. The leader steeled himself and raised a rod-like weapon with a pointed end. He stabbed the weapon into the neck of Minister Mei.
The assassins threw a note onto her before running away the way they came from.
