The battle raged on for approximately two hours and those who had survived to that period whether they were tier 1, tier 2 or tier 3 mages were all elites.
Grey's team of 6 were part of these so called elites as they had survived to that period.
The same could be said for the regular human troops. Those that can survive in a battlefield with those dangerous mages whilst killing enemy troops can be considered the best of the best.
These types of individuals are usually rewarded heavily for their service.
The best of these rewards is usually a fully paid scholarship to the royal academy of magic if their bloodlines ever sire a mage talent.
These children are usually not obligated to work for the royal family, this one of the ways the motivate the regular human troops to easily lay down their lives.
The charm of starting a magical family is everything that most people would want.
Unlike the world of the military academies where the mage is considered a normal thing, in the outside world mages are highly respected as seen from Alice's usual behaviour.
Thus these soldiers would literally die to have a chance to send their descendants to the royal academy of magic and learn magic without being obligated to work for the royal family.
PANT! PANT! PANT!
Grey was soaked, his sweat flowed down his face whilst his body would tremble ever so slightly.
The role he played in the formation of the team of 6 meant that he was always firing off spells without a chance of rest.
The body of mage was strong but even it would get very strained with all that work.
However this method allowed them to survive in this chaotic battle.
They had done that even with two civilian mages who still tended to make mistakes, as shown when Grant failed to follow orders, which almost got them killed by a very powerful Ice caster tier 2 mage.
"D, the Right Wing is about to collapse, the same could be said for the Left Wing. The Ruhenese will most likely retreat to the Centre which is still holding on."
Bon explained with a tired face, Grey was not the only one who was very tired.
The rest of the team was also tired, the concentration that is required to keep following orders and firing off spells for long hours without rest can be very draining to mages.
The most tired ones were Ilse, Sharon and Bon whilst Alice and Grant were least tired.
The main reason for that was that Grey had learnt his previous mistake with Grant, he only ordered Alice and Grant when the situation was not difficult.
PANT! PANT! PANT!
"That is correct."
Grey only commented that statement as he observed the battlefield that was slightly moving towards the Centre.
The approximately 100 mages that came with Captain Hadley April had been cut down by 60%, there were practically no civilians left, from Grey's observation only 4 were left which included Alice and Grant.
'Grey is a freaky genius indeed. The ability to carry this small team to this point of the battle, even when having two incompetent mage civilians in the team. Even when he is not actively double casting, I guess that has to with the fact that he could anticipate everything in the chaotic battle.'
Bon thought of their situation with a serious face, Grey's abilities always scared him, this time included.
The ability to make one's mana combine with another mana to make two separate spells fired off by two different people combine to make a combined spell is just very genius.
It was not something that any person can just choose to do, with the intelligence of mages, they would have used such methods already if they existed.
Honestly he wanted to ask for more, but the situation just would not allow it, he was sure the other team members were also interested.
"Get ready to chase them!"
"They have started to run towards the Centre!"
"Be careful of traps!"
BOOOM!! BOOM!
"AHHH!! Have mercy!! Have mercy!!"
"Argh!"
Grey observed as the elites of Ruhen retreated to the Centre closer to the bunker that they had been protecting whilst the elites from Arin tried their best to kill them.
'My plan to use fast firing combined spells to dominate the battlefield by using two people to cast normal spells and combine those spells. The plan worked against the normal mages.'
Grey internally thought of his situation.
'This plan will not work against the elites of Ruhen, some of them are like Meyer having the ability to reduce their casting time as well. It is times like this I wish a tier 1 Magic Ring had more space to allow a Record Activation, even if my casting time was cut by 9.0%, it would be very useful.'
Grey was thinking of a new plan to survive the next part, 70% of the battle was done and only the last bit was left to be sorted.
"We will stop using this set up as it will not work where we are going."
Grey looked at the people next to him and told them his thoughts.
'Grey is correct, the method worked because we could practically cast combined spells at the time it takes to cast normal spells, and that dominated the normal mages very easily. But if we are to fight the elites from Ruhen in the Centre, it will work against geniuses like them who can easily do something similar.'
Sharon internally commented as she looked at Bon.
Bon was like the so called elites, she knew from her observations that he could cast spells with a reduced time of about 4.5%, that time reduction also counted for combination spells.
In general, combined spells take at least 15% more time to cast.
Grey's plan was to capitalise on this time difference and dominate enemy mages by fast firing combination spells.
However that did not mean that Bon was the best of the geniuses, some freaky geniuses could cut the time to cast by up to 10% as tier 1 mages.
'Grey you are a genius as well, I might have underestimated you too much. I never thought it was possible to use light magic the way you have been using it this whole time. Being able to track, anticipate and counter enemies in a big chaotic battle. The spell you have been using this whole time is very powerful, the fact that no one seems to feel it is even more powerful.'
Sharon looked at Grey as he observed the battlefield, it was only her who could use Light magic and she had felt Grey use a spell when the fighting started, she just did not know what the spell was.
Sharon had been wondering, during the fighting, Grey had not been using double casting but he burned more mana than every person in the team.
Sharon could only conclude that he was already using mana to fuel another spell that made him all knowing in the battlefield
"What are we going to do?"
Alice asked with some curiosity, the 14 year old was the least tired in the team.
Alice had fully seen Grey's ability, she was developing some respect for him at this point.
Mages were not known for being obstinate in most situations, their intelligence made them understand both sides very easily.
Grey was regaining his lost mana as he turned to Alice.
"The team will stay together, but we will fight normally as team. We will be going for a fully offensive formation, C, F and myself will be in the front whilst the rest will be at the rear to act as defenders. The plan is that simple, at this point special methods will not work."
"MOVE FORWARD!!"
The powerful voice of Captain Hadley brought every person's mind back to the battlefield.
The once heroic pretty female looked dirty and some of hair was burnt, she had some blood caked of her face.
It seemed the fights of the tier 3 mages were very difficult as well, the civilian tier 3 recruits that followed her around could not be seen anymore.
''''It seemed even the tier 3 mage recruits were also considered cannon fodder by the military.''''
That was a similar thought when the mages under Hadley saw her without them following her.
That was considering that they had let together to fight the tier 3 mages from Ruhen in the North East direction earlier on.
"Get ready for combat!"
Grey shouted as mana started to accumulate around him.
