The forested area where they were having they team spar could be considered a very large area with a large number of trees, rocks and some water bodies as well.
There were also some normal wood land creatures that were not magically infused creatures. The battle would start at an agreed time thus June's team were still in their starting point in west.
They waited for a while until the appointed time was reached, then 2nd Lt Marion gave them a last order with a bright smile reminiscent of a battle junkie.
"Recruits you will be following me from behind. I will be going to scout, I will give you a signal when I find them."
She did not give them a time to show that they understood their orders as she immediately casted tier 1 movement spell, [Light Step]. When the spell was casted, the 2nd Lt started to glow and then she shot out in a blur of speed.
She clearly was not trying to hide her approach. The Light and Lighting type elements are known for their speed thus she was really fast.
"You did not tell us what the signal will be…"
Ilse lamented as she saw the glowing woman shoot out in between the trees with high speed. June was not afraid that they would meet Percival who could the same thing as her, going out alone.
The four of them should be able to holdout against Percival if he is also using tier 1 spells.
"Let's go for a four man basic formation and quickly go in the direction of the centre of the map."
Grey gave out the orders, old habits. June had not said who would be the one in charge after she was gone.
The other members did not mind, at one point during their time in the academy they had been under Grey's lead.
The four men formation was very simple, Sharon and Ilse were at the front, Grey and Bon were at the rear.
Immediately after the formation was done they immediately started to run towards the centre not using any spells, they had strong enough bodies trained for many years to have a run in the forest.
Though as they were going Grey casted what he called a tier 1 Domain spell, [Air Dome], the spell was something that Grey had recently created together with his many new spells.
The spell was silent and invisible to the eye, however the air particles in the area around Grey would work for Grey. The air particles would be disturbed if someone entered the Domain, and Grey would be aware that someone was close to them.
"Grey did you cast a spell?"
Ilse asked as she could feel the wind elements being disturbed around her, and the only person except from her who could use the wind element was Grey.
"Yes. It will help in scouting ahead."
"Does the military have such spell, I have never seen it in the repository."
"No. It does not exist in the military."
That statement told Ilse was that the person who created the spell was Grey.
"Ilse, what type of spell is it?"
Sharon asked as she could see the greed in Ilse's eyes.
"From what I can perceive from the wind elements, there is a large dome of air that has Grey as the centre. As Grey said, the air will practically report to Grey if there is an enemy around him."
Bon and Sharon looked at Grey with awe and surprise, this was more so for Bon. Grey had shown some of his genius tier 1 magic rings, but the fellow could create great spell ideas as well, the fellow is the definitely a freaky genius.
'They are surprised by this type of scouting method? This method is too slow, and easy to see and counter. If I start using Radar type spells, they would die from shock if they are this surprised from only using air.'
Grey thought to himself as they were moving.
"I am guessing you did not get a chance to tell our commanding officer about your spell."
Commented Bon as soon as he understood the working method of the spell.
"Yes I did not, but it is good thing that she goes to scout incase someone has a method to counter my [Air Dome] spell."
Bon nodded in understanding as he felt that made sense.
"Let's increase our pace."
Grey ordered as they had less of a reason to be careful. They increased they running speed, they were like monkeys in a jungle, not having any trouble travelling in between the trees and rocks.
In the east side a few minutes before the appointed time for starting the team spar, Percival was discussing with his team of civilian recruits.
"From the submitted information about you all, you have just reached tier 1 and had not enough time to hone your magic combat skills."
"Yes Sir."
Answered Ross, the fellow took this opportunity to practise about battle before the real thing in a few days seriously. The fact that he is of humble beginnings, he did not have any person teach him much about magic combat before.
Observing how interested Ross was made Percival smile, they were his subordinates and he wanted them to survive the war.
"Knowing Lt Marion, she will be charging in alone with the recruits just behind her. This is done so she can take my attention so as to have the military academy recruits to destroy you whilst we are having our fight."
"Sir, what are we going to do?"
Sheryl asked with some curiosity, she too wanted to survive this war and go back home to take over the family business.
"I am simply going to avoid fighting her alone, she does not have the ability to fight all of us alone. Thus she will have to call her subordinates to help her."
They civilian recruits nodded.
"In order to fight her when she comes we will have a defensive formation, with such a formation, even she won't be able to break using tier 1 spells."
"Sir I had training in magic combat and I sure recruit Whitlock also got some, are you sure we don't have a chance if we fight against military academy recruits?"
Grant asked with a serious face that showed that he was asking a serious question, he still had some pride about himself, but he would not let it get in his way. If he needed further training he would take this opportunity much more seriously.
Percival looked at his subordinates with a serious face.
"I am sure you don't have much of a chance."
Percival said very bluntly.
"Military academy recruits like June, those other recruits and myself have been trained since we were 5 years and not being mages, thus we have a wealth of experience. But don't be discouraged by that, you are mages with high intelligence, with some training you should have enough experience to protect your lives."
The civilian recruits nodded with understanding, even recruit Whitlock was nodding. It really seems that Percival has a thing for people.
"Now about the formation that we will be using."
