When the fighting force that Ruhen had sent was finally seen by the fighting sides of Arin and Rawyth the people we initially surprised because the force was only battalion strength only. The battalion only had 100 people, Ruhen did not even send they regular troops because the battalion only had mages as the fighting force.
The battalion mostly had tier 2 mages with some tier 3 mages in the mix. The sides of Arin and Rawyth were initially puzzled on how a single fighting force of one hundred people would be able to beat them, however as mages their intuition told them that the battalion was very dangerous, because of that the on field commanders did not lower their guard.
As the fighting started the battalion obviously targeted both sides of Arin and Rawyth, the view of 100 people attacking thousands of people was somewhat comical, however as their spells materialised the people on the receiving side were surprised and horrified. The attack spells launched by the special battalion were all tier 2 combination spells, whether it is attack spells or defence spell.
This situation totally flabbergasted the sides of Arin and Rawyth, the scene of hundreds of deadly combination spells of different elements was a pretty view to see, but when the spells hit their targets there was only destruction, blood and death in all places.
The battalion did not stop with the use of combination spells, when attacked, they would defend using defensive combination spells. The sides of Arin and Rawyth were not ready for such explosive potential such that the initial casualties were very high especially the regular humans who could not protect themselves from magic.
The two sides were not given a chance to rest and counterattack because the people of this battalion could keep firing combination spells without rest which is something very difficult to do. The combination spell is a mage's trump card, in tier 1 and tier 2, mages can combine only two spells and at higher tiers more spells can be combined.
The combination spell takes more mana and concentration such that when a mage is done casting it off, they need to take a small break, but the main thing is that combination spells take more mana. The special battalion did not seem to have these restrictions when they heavily injured the two forces of Arin and Rawyth, forcing them to retreat.
The special battalion had more fights like these forcing the two sides to retreat until they finally reached near Edward's Crevasse and entering into this situation of having a final battle with Arin for the mining camp.
The mining camp was very solemn when they thought of fighting the special battalion without a proper way to counter their ability to keep firing off combination spells.
"Any news from military command?"
The person who asked the question was the on field commander of Arin, Major Alexandria Wells asking her adjutant who was a tier 2 male mage.
"Mam, command says that General Wagner had taken the mission to study how the special battalion, as it is obvious that the effect must be because they are using some special Magic Ring."
'If it takes a long time, we might be pushed out of the mining camp.'
The adjutant thought to himself.
"Where are Rawyth's troops at the moment?"
"Mam, they retreated to the north close to the the mountain range, but the commander must have left spies to look at the results of the fight."
"Albert does not have to risk heavy losses to his troops, they will mostly wait until the method of the special battalion is figured out. Damn it."
Commander Wells was annoyed as she watched the special battalion get closer to the mining camp.
"I might have to go out as well if this continues. They must have sent Major rank expert to protect the special battalion, the fellow must be hiding so he/she can ambush me when I go out."
The damage that a tier 4 mage could give out is not something a bunch of tier 2 mages could survive, even when using their combination spells, however commander Wells did not get a chance to go out.
The special battalion started to retreat by themselves leaving bodies in their wake, their numbers were also reduced, as much as powerful as they are, some of their comrades got killed.
"Commander the special battalion is retreating."
"There must be a reason they are retreating whilst being so close to the mining camp."
'I hope this gives General Wagner time to figure out the method of the special battalion or send another tier 4 to kill them whilst I fight the hidden expert.'
Commander Wells thought to herself, as she went to receive damage reports and give out further orders to her subordinates.
The special battalion was a hidden force that had been created with Ruhen's results in their research fields. Ruhen as a country was a country that encouraged research, much more when compared to other kingdoms neighbouring it.
The Cunning King invested a lot of resources into many fields that could be used for war or be used for daily activities. The idea of the special battalion originally came from a tier 2 master ring designer without too much success in magic ring design.
The man had pitched the idea to Ruhen's military without any hope of it going through, but he was surprised when he was given the resources he needed to do the research. The results of the research excited the military so much that they implemented the research results as quickly as possible.
The fighting forces of Arin were planning to regroup and bring new reinforcements so that they could resist the special battalion so as to give General Wagner the time she needs to get results on her research on the special battalion.
However Ruhen would not give Arin the time to rest, the next day Ruhen reached the mining camp, and this time it was not only the special battalion there were other forces, they were ready to push Arin out of Edward's Crevasse. The commander of the forces of Ruhen, Major Ken Wright, looked at the heavily fortified mining camp with excited look on his face.
1st Lt Michael Sergei stood inside of the fortified mining camp looking at the forces of Ruhen with a look of trepidation, he stood in front of his subordinates which were 2nd lieutenants and tier 1 mages.
'They did not give us a chance to regroup, the enemy commander knows how to hit when the iron is hot.'
Michael thought to himself has he looked at those forces who were not tired and had not fought at all and could not help but feeling a bit of despair.
