Clauferry had more training classes than theory, that is the part of the curriculum so it was mandatory.
Not like anyone was complaining.
We were heading off to our first training class of the day.
Four more to go.
The hallway was crowded, mostly because everyone in the same age group had their training classes together.
We are later divided into groups in the field but our classes are held together.
I am supposed to wait for Thane and Maven before heading to class together.
We were in the same group so it was better to go together.
Honestly walking half a mile to reach the grounds is an exercise in itself.
I sighed as the hallway started emptying, figures.
No one wanted to be late, half were just eager and the other half were plain scared of Mr. Ozaki.
I shivered as his face appeared before my eyes.
Mouth pulled back in a thin line and a volcano of anger in his eyes.
I swear that man walks as if he angry at the floor for existing, piratically stomping on it.
Now it may have been funny.
But it is not.
Not when he has already caught us joking about it and the punishment was just shuddering.
I tapped my foot on the floor and pulled my lips in a thin line.
Eyebrows drawn together, I couldn't help but pace near the archway biting my lips as students passed by the door, the crowd quickly thinning.
They were supposed to be here ten minutes ago.
I couldn't help but glance at my watch every few seconds.
Mr. Ozaki is going to roast us.
Quite literary.
I should have walked with Marina when she had asked to accompany me.
But no I had to decline her and wait for them instead.
I saw them around the corner as they took a turn, running towards me at full speed.
Feet stomping loudly in the empty hallway.
" You stupid shoelace where were you" I yelled at Thane and he came to a halt in front of me.
I smacked his shoulder as soon as he was in arms length.
" We were-"
" We don't have time for that. Maven create a shield" I quickly shifted to the main subject dismissing his excuse.
For now.
" Hm, uh really" Maven questioned looking around the empty hallway, for what I fail to see.
" Maven just do it, they are not going to throw us in a dungeon for that" Thane nearly yelled at her.
I wouldn't blame him I myself am second away from bolting down the field, maybe drag Thane with me.
It was not exactly allowed to use colors in the school premise because offenders can be offended pretty easily and I think our school property is far too valuable to fight in hallways.
" Ok fine" she huffed but created a grey colored shield parallel to the floor, large enough that we all could stand on it.
We all huddled on the shield and grabbed Maven's arm.
Although it is technically a shield but Defenders can make their shields float in the air or move at high speed.
But it generally comes down to your training and talent.
We have done it numerous times before.
Everyone has, but clutching the Defender is a safety protocol that needs to be followed, lest we fly off the disk and break our necks.
It is not that dangers but I can't tell because I have never slipped off the shield or my hoverboard.
We clutched her arm and the disk raised a few feet up above and then we were airborne, flying out of the door and onto the grounds outside.
The wind howled in my ears and I narrowed my eyes against the wind.
The adrenal rush was just enough for my face to split into a smile.
The students came into view all running to the far corner of the grounds that had the training field set up along with the instructors.
" Slow down then lower it gently" I whispered in Maven's ear and she nodded in confirmation.
I but naturally directed her forgetting that I am not a defender, not here.
But thankfully she didn't mind, because to her I just have a sharp mind that was curious enough to learn about everything.
Our speed slowed down as we neared the group of students walking in queues.
The shield lowered down, reducing the distance from the ground before completely disappearing from below our feet and we landed on soft grass with a jump, quickly falling into line as if we didn't just fly here.
Hopefully no one saw us.
