The day went on under the supervision of Luna Aida. It was torturous and heavy. She chose to work for a week nonstop over spending one day with Aida. Do this and don't do this, walk like this, eat this way and so on...
Lucette anxiously stood up, eagerly awaiting Luna Aida, who was rubbing her forehead. She tightly clutched her black t-shirt, trying to conceal her unease with a feigned ignorance.
"Clearly, you're lacking in everything! No manners, no dancing abilities, no proper etiquette, no combat skills, nothing!" the supreme Luna counted, clearly displeased with her.
Lucette lowered her head displeased. She wasn't at fault for working as a maid and had no proper education. King Arius was the one who lied about her identity and she was the one suffering!
Aida sat in her chair and glared at her. "Your hair is unkempt. You lack basic knowledge of etiquette and have no sense of fashion," she said, eyeing her baggy shirt. "In addition, you lack any skills and have a weak personality. Unfortunately, my grandson's partner had these traits," she openly expressed her dissatisfaction.
Lucette's heart ached. She gazed at the woman for a long time, then looked away. Her eyes welled up, but she closed them to stop the tears from falling.
'You have to be strong. it wasn't the first time someone mocked you.'
"It's true. The supreme Luna should choose another mate for her grandson if she is dissatisfied. Excuse me, I have something to do," she said with greeted teeth, then turned around and walked out.
She ran toward her room, closed the door behind her, lay on her bed, and looked at the ceiling. Her thoughts drifted to her days in the palace. It was mostly unpleasing. Getting punished and having fights with the other maids. She didn't let anyone belittle her.
Lucette turned her body to face the window. The sky was turning black slowly. She missed walking under the sky. Since she came here, she didn't leave the packhouse. Lucette walked toward the sofa below the window and sat looking at the black sky.
The sense of entrapment behind the towering walls of the vampire palace was intensifying, causing her heart to flutter with unease. She was gripped by panic at the thought of her former life creeping back in.
She opened the window, and the cool breeze caressed her cheeks, making her heart calm a bit. Staring at the starry night for so long, her eyelashes fluttered. She closed her eyes, drifting to sleep to forget what was happening.
"Mama, mama," Lucette stopped swinging and looked around. Seeing no one beside her, she shouted.
She looked at her small hands and the strange white knee-length dress she was wearing, and then at the unfamiliar room she stayed in, suddenly the room's door was opened and people with white outfits strode in...
Lucette felt a wet thing on her cheeks. She slowly opened her eyes and yelped seeing a familiar wolf's face in front of her. Am I still dreaming? she thought, but as Wafer licked her cheek, she realized she wasn't dreaming.
"What are you doing here? How did you come here?" she murmured and Wafer howled. "Shush," she shushed him, scared of someone noticing an animal hung in her window. Looking behind, she didn't see the alpha or his shadow. "Go down, I will go to you," she said, seeing him sticking to the window with his paws. Wafer went down, she hurriedly walked out.
Lucette tiptoed to the exit carefully, afraid of being caught by some servants or worst, the Luna. After exiting the packhouse, she spotted the giant wolf far away, hiding between the trees. She waved her hand and strode toward him.
"Wafer!" she patted its brown fur. "It is good that you are here. I was feeling lonely here," she whined, walking behind the wolf which took the lead. "Where are we going? do you know the way here?" she asked, but the wolf kept walking.
Doubt rose in her heart. Lucette stopped in her tracks. "Are you perhaps the alpha?" her voice came into whispers.
Wafer stopped and turned its head to her. Lucette's heart thumped waiting for its signal. If the wolf was the alpha, what should she do? Her anxiousness rose as time went by. Then the wolf let a low purr and pointed at a wafer photo in a shop.
"You are Wafer. I forgot," she said, curving her lips and patting his fur.
Lucette followed the wolf around the place, removing the thought from her mind. Even if the wolf had something to do with the alpha, the one beside her was Wafer.
Nothing matter.
The two of them strolled alongside each other on the outskirts of the city, which was livelier than the Moon Shadow's packhouse.
"Wafer, before you woke me up, I was dreaming about a place I never remember I lived in. The room was cold and small. It had a bed and a box full of toys. You say, is it my childhood wish, or I lived it for real?" she asked, remembering the dream she had before.
Wafer responded with a low purr. Lucette pressed her lips together and looked at it accusingly. "It's all your fault. You woke me up before finishing the dream."
The wolf walked ahead of her, seeing its long fluffy tail swinging as if ignoring her. She pursed her lips and stopped. "We've been walking for so long. Aren't you tired?"
The wolf shook his head. "Then why don't you put me on your back?" she requested with pleading eyes. The idea was enticing. Wafer turned its face and slapped its tail on her face.
"You DOG—" she shouted. Seeing the wolf's eyes turning red, and its long sharp teeth, she stepped back. "I mean Wafer. My giant wolf." She softened her speech, trying to calm the raging animal.
Lucette tiptoed to its side, raised her hand slowly, closed her eyes and stretched her hand to caress the wolf's body. Noticing that Wafer let her do that, her panic vanished.
The animal had a strong arrogance!
They stay like that for a moment. "Can we rest for a while? I'm really tired."
Wafer shuffled to a close distance and then purred to her. She followed to where it stopped. Seeing the scenery in front of her, she gasped.
The city was below her. She was standing on a small mountain and the city was showing. Its lights, its huge buildings, and the packhouse towering in the centre were like a spiralled puzzle.
"It's a beautiful scenery," she said.
Lucette blubbered endlessly while sitting beside the silent animal. She talked about her childhood and the prank she did, the punishments she got.
"Wafter," she called and the wolf faced her. "Will I be a good Luna one day?" she asked.
Wafer shook his head and her heart pained. She lowered her head. "Even a wolf is seeing me as a waste," she whined for a moment and then raised her head. She yawned and put her head on the wolf's body. "I will prove you wrong. All of you will be wrong," she murmured, drifting to sleep.
During her sleep, she felt herself swaying. When she opened her eyes, she saw herself being held in someone's arms, and then slowly her eyes closed once again.
