Chapter 19 - Festival

The next few days, Lucette spent most of her time hanging with Hannah. Sometimes, Jordan would be there fidgeting and complaining about how she made his mate tired.

Lucette kept looking for Hannah whenever she felt bored. Hannah showed her around the pack every night despite her mate's protest.

Spending time alone between four walls was boring. She knew what Hannah felt so far. But she couldn't bear to tire her knowing her condition and not to anger the beta. He was funny when he showed his proactiveness to his mate.

Last night, they went shopping, and she embarrassed herself because she didn't bring any money. It wasn't like she hadn't. She worked for years and possessed some money, but the marriage happened so fast that she forgot to bring it with her. She also tried street food for the first time, and it was delicious.

The last few days were full of laughter. Lucette snapped out of her thoughts. The restaurant buzzed with the customers' voices. She looked at Jordan, who was stuffing Hannah's mouth with food and urging her to eat more. Lucette smiled bashfully.

"Stop it Jordan! I am full," Hannah cried out.

"Eat more," Jordan said, putting the spoon near Hannah's mouth, but she pressed her lips tight, refusing to eat. The beta sighed and ate the portion by himself. However, the next second he did the same.

Lucette chuckled and continued sipping her juice. The two began bickering over the matter. She never got bored with them.

Lucette looked at the restaurant. Most of the tables were full. People kept looking in her direction, but when her eyes met theirs, they would withdraw their gazes immediately.

She was used to their stares. Though an enemy became their Luna, they feared her.

The people were amiable to the beta and Hannah, but they would never be the same with her around. They would call her Luna out of respect then they would flee. Most of the time, they avoided her.

Were they afraid she would suck their blood dry?

That would never happen unless she lost her rationality due to thirst.

Thirst! It had been ten days since she drank blood. She didn't know how many days she would stand without feeding.

She never fed on a living creature. In the palace, they provided blood in conservative cans to their vampires' workers. However, she asked Hannah who told her there was none here. Being the sole vampire here was troublesome.

She had to feed before losing control.

"So we can't arrange the spring festival this year too?" Hannah asked, cutting her thoughts.

"I don't think the Alpha will change his mind," Jordan answered, frowning when he saw the disappointed look on his mate's face.

"The spring festival?" Lucette asked. And both of them looked at her. It was still time for spring. A month and a half. That was what Hannah told her. There were four seasons in this area, not like the vampire kingdom where winter remained the whole year.

"The spring festival was a grand festival that all werewolves will wait painstakingly. Every year at the end of winter, werewolves from various packs will gather. Not all of them, mostly the ones who didn't find their mate will be present."

"It says that flowers in the spring bloom after passing a harsh season, the same as describing the love that blooms in one's heart when someone finds his mate. The important reason for holding such an event was to find your soulmate. Like we did," said Hannah smiling at Jordan.

"And?" Lucette asked as the couple seemed lost in their bubble.

Jordan coughed. "Every year, one pack from the five will organize the festival. And this year, the turn is on our pack," he said. "But the Alpha objects to organizing the festival here so another pack will do the job."

Meanwhile, Hannah lowered her eyes. "It's such a pity. I heard from my sister that the grandest and the most beautiful spring festival was the one our pack holds."

"Four years ago, the Alpha refused to even talk about the festival, let alone permit its organization," she said, stuffing a mouthful of chocolate cake into her mouth. She hoped this year the Alpha would accept.

Lucette eyed Hannah and raised a brow. Wasn't she full a while ago?

"Why does he refuse?" Lucette asked, and both of them stayed silent.

"His mate died at the festival eight years ago," Jordan whispered. Then he looked away in a daze. Hannah held his hand and smiled at him, and then he took her in his embrace.

Lucette looked down at the empty plate on the table.

"Why don't you talk to him? Aren't you his right hand? You two have a good relationship. Haven't you?" Lucette asked.

Jordan smiled mockingly and looked away. "We were never close. He is my Alpha. All the pack members know very well not to oppose his orders. Neither he will allow anyone to do that."

What a pity man! And selfish too!

Immersing himself in misery, not caring about his own people! No wonder they didn't talk to him in her introduction ceremony!

They feared him. He restricted everything and prohibited them from arranging the festival.

He was certainly jealous. His mate died, and then all of his pack members had to share his sadness and sorrow. She bet he was thinking this way!

It was unfair to his people and to himself too.

The three of them went out after finishing eating. Lucette's body trembled from the cold weather. She spent so much time in her cosy house forgetting the coldness in the vampire kingdom.

Lucette walked in the opposite direction of the couple and strode out to her house.

Thinking about the festival, 'what if I convince that rude man, the pack members would notice her and see her as their Luna? No, she doesn't want to get involved with that man. But wouldn't this be her chance to prove herself? Now she is the Luna, not a maid'

Lucette sighed. She missed chatting with Miranda. Even when she talked about the trivial matter, she would listen to her and advise her. What is she doing now? Is she fine in the palace?

She walked with her face gazing at the ground, turning around. Her eyes caught a luxury car parked near her house and a familiar silhouette leaning on the car.

"Cousin."
