"Cousin," Kim said, her lips rose in a mischievous smile.
"What are you doing here?" Lucette asked.
'What in the world Is she doing right here at my house?'
"I am here to visit my 'lost' cousin. Aren't you going to welcome me?" she asked, her crimson eyes dimmed in the darkness.
Cousin, my foot!
She never imagined one day the vampiress' daughter to 'visit' her. Lucette hummed in annoyance and walked past her. She opened the door and walked in. The vampiress' daughter followed her inside the house.
Lucette turned around. Kim glanced around the house, her eyes focused on every detail from the long thick curtain, the wooden floor, the L-shaped couch, the round-shaped chairs, the furniture on the table, the decorations, and the fully equipped kitchen. Then right to her, sizing her from up to down.
"What do you want?" Lucette asked, picking Kim's attention as she looked at her.
"When my mom told me you replaced the bride, I couldn't help but feel curious about your well-being. After all, we are cousins," she said, playing with a strand of her dyed green hair.
"I see you are doing well, very well," she crossed her arms. "You even gained weight."
"You seem disappointed by that. Right, Cousin?" Lucette responded with the same tone. Kim flashed her with a bothersome look, pursing her full lips.
Like mother, like daughter.
They loved seeing her living in misery! The two of them took pleasure in tormenting people. They were arrogant to the core, seeing themselves as the top while the others were below them. But she wasn't the same Lucette from two weeks ago!
"A bit, I thought you would be in a better condition than this lowly house," Kim sneered at her and sat on the couch crossing her legs.
Aaah. She was mocking me, at my house.
"Now you saw me, and I'm doing fine. Look, the door is still wide open," Lucette said, pointing at the door. 'Don't return ever.'
"Oh! Fred," Kim called with her pitch voice. The driver got in. "Close the door and wait outside," she ordered him, and the latter did as she said.
Lucette gazed at Kim, who had an innocent smile on her stupid face.
"I will stay for the night. The ride drained all my energy," Kim said.
"Just tonight," Lucette stated, marching away.
"Where are you going?" the vampiress' annoying voice echoed in her ears.
What an earth-shattering voice, Lucette thought, rubbing her ears, then she ascended the stairs.
"I am hungry. Do me something to eat," Kim ordered her, standing by the staircase.
Dream on!
"I am not your maid, and the kitchen is a few steps away," Lucette retorted, as she stopped walking and looked at Kim with the tip of her eyes.
"You are a maid, and that's your job," Kim stated, raising her voice.
Lucette turned around and strode toward Kim. Each step she took was powerful. "Look, I am not a maid! I am now the Luna of this pack. And you are in my territory so, you better shut your noisy mouth," she said, letting all the frustration out. Kim gaped her mouth.
"What if I told the pack your true identity, cousin?" Kim responded, grinning mischievously.
"Do as you please," Lucette replied, walking to her room.
"Are you sure?" Kim shouted, but she didn't even look back at her.
Lucette closed the door forcefully, then she threw herself in the bed.
What a night! It began well and finished like dirt.
She couldn't believe that. From all the places in the world, that arrogant big-mouthed wanted to come here. To annoy her and get all the anger she suppressed for years out of her.
She rubbed her forehead after she cooled down.
What if she went and told the Alpha her true identity?
If she did that, then the peace between the two races would be endangered. She would put the king's face in the mud because he was the one who declared her as the second princess whilst she wasn't.
If the Alpha king knew about it, then he would declare war on the vampires. Lying to royalty was unaccepted by whoever lied.
So, a high probability she wouldn't dare to reveal the truth unless her arrogance messed with her brain cells if she had any.
Lucette tossed around, even though she was confident in her analysis. She couldn't help but feel a little anxious. Being here was an opportunity to change herself from a useless person to someone with a clear identity and power.
When she stated 'I'm not a maid anymore', the feeling was incredible. For the first time, she talked for herself facing Kim. From now on, no one could tamper with her or belittle her.
She closed her eyes. Her lips rose in a radiant smile.
The next morning, Lucette walked down the stairs, rubbing her eyes. Kim was awake still, sitting on the couch, playing with her phone.
Lucette hummed and went to the kitchen. "What did you do?" she asked after looking at the mess in the kitchen.
"I was famished that I couldn't feel my limbs. I told you to cook something for me, but you said I could use the kitchen so, I tried my luck on cooking," Kim responded, "Why? did I do something wrong?"
Famished? If she wasn't a vampire, she would believe her dying from hunger.
"Tidy the mess you did," Lucette ordered. She couldn't stand it anymore. Maybe the next second, she would attack her.
"But—"
The door's ring belled. Fortunately for Kim, because Lucette was going to throw her outside.
Lucette hurried and opened the door. Hannah's smiling face greeted her. Another woman stood beside her. The woman looked similar to Hannah with her blonde hair, but her eyes were honey-coloured while Hanna's were a mix of green and golden with specks of red veins. However, the woman gave a strict vibe opposite to Hannah's friendly aura.
"Lucette, sorry for coming here with my sister without notifying you," Hannah said.
"Why are you calling her by her name?" the woman stated, looking rigidly at Hannah.
"Sis, we are used to calling each other by name," Hannah sulked.
"She is the Luna. You as the beta female should show the respect Luna deserves," she retorted, raising a brow.
"There is no need for that," Lucette replied, shaking her hands. Hannah was her friend so, it was normal for her to call her by name. Their argument was meaningless.
The woman eyed her. "You are the Luna and that's all that matters," she said, showing a stoic face. "I'm Mara Crage, the beta female of the Silver Key Pack. Nice meeting you."
Lucette widened her eyes. It was the first time someone acknowledged her. It felt surreal and overwhelming that she was tongue-tied.
She felt the blood reaching her cheek as a warm sensation tingled them. She was blushing for sure.
"N-nice meeting you too," at last, she posed herself and spoke.
The two sisters followed her to the living room, and Kim presented herself as the king's niece and her cousin, flaunting about herself.
Since the kitchen was open to the living room, the sisters saw how messy it was. And she blamed Kim as it was her fault after all.
Lucette ate the apple happily while relaxing on the couch with Hannah, watching as Mara instructed Kim to wash the dishes. She smiled at the young vampiress' dismay.
She wanted someone with Mara's personality as her aide! If just Mara was from this pack, she would be of great help.
Hannah sighed. "Don't mind my sister's behaviour. She had been like this since she was young. A strict person."
Lucette shifted her gaze to the kitchen. It appeared from the way Mara behaved her love for doing things accordingly with no misshape.
"You seem displeased by that," Lucette said, munching an apple.
"You didn't live with her for seventeen years," Hannah remarked. "Actually, the reason I came here in the morning was to run from Mara's strict mode."
Lucette giggled at the horrified expression her friend showed. Her childhood must be hard. While she saw Mara as a good helper, Hannah saw it as the opposite such as a control freak.
"Sometimes it's helpful," Lucette said.
"For?" Hannah asked.
"Punishing disobedient kids," Lucette murmured, staring at the young vampiress. And Hannah shuddered.
"You should have experienced it," Lucette said, laughing aloud.
"Don't talk about it. I don't want to remember," Hannah said, shrugging off the idea.
