Chapter 10 - Move On!

Lucette sat, biting her lips. She didn't know what would happen next. The man would inform them about the king about the annulment right now. The King should be furious.

The union between the two races relied on this marriage. If the king heard then he would kill her, but she was ready to fend for herself. She would use the 'maid card' and put the blame on the vampiress.

She forced a maid to be the bride. If the news spread, then she would be innocent, but the relationship between the vampires and the werewolves would end. The possibility of another war starting was high. Maybe she would end up as a sacrifice with the vampiress if the king planned to appease the werewolves. At least, she would die with dignity.

She wanted to see Miranda and talk to her about her grief. She wanted to cry in her embrace.

Lucette wiped her tears and waited for the unknown. Her heart skipped a beat when the door opened and the vampiress stepped in, lifting her brow.

"I want to see Miranda," Lucette spoke, looking at the grey carpet on the floor.

"You are not going anywhere," Sophie said, raising her chin and sizing her up from head to toe. "You look quite… representable. Even the gilded jewels glitter, whereas their core never changes. Never," she said then she withdrew her hand and wiped it.

Lucette bit her lower lips, but it could not prevent her lips from trembling. She clenched her hands into a fist and swallowed the humiliation quietly. She hated her weak self for not being able to face the woman.

The vampiress sat leisurely on the couch. Lucette stood in the centre of the room in a trance.

Nothing had happened till now! The man went out an hour ago, so the news should have already spread.

Lucette clenched her robe, then a knock echoed in the room and a maid came in.

'It's time.'

"Your royal vampiress, the king ordered you to bring the bride to the entrance of the palace," the maid said.

Why would I go to the entrance of the palace? Is it for the punishment?

Lucette stood in a daze.

"Do you need an invitation to come?" Sophie said, signalling to follow her then she exited the room without looking at her.

Lucette followed the vampiress through the hallways, the stairs and the entrance.

'Light? The entire palace lightened.'

Lucette gazed over the familiar palace. The decoration seemed more beautiful. The paintings looked even nicer.

She looked at the changes brought by lights and then bumped into the vampiress who stopped walking. "Sorry," Lucette said, receiving a cold glare.

"Fer... Alpha king Ferdinand," Sophie said to the man standing beside the king. Lucette could sense the displeasure in the vampiress's voice.

Lucette looked at the king. It was the first time she had seen him this close. He stood with the man who was taller and sturdier than King Arius. Lucette retracted her gaze to the floor.

They were powerful making her feel scared. She couldn't imagine what would happen to her.

"Sophie... It had been a long time since I saw you," the Alpha said. And Sophie's body stiffened.

Lucette looked at the vampiress's back. Sophie never responded to the man.

"I have an urgent matter to do. I will take the bride with me and hold the wedding ceremony as planned," the man spoke and walked to her side. "And you must be..."

Lucette froze at the man's revelation. Wedding? Isn't it cancelled? The man promised her...

"She is the bride," Sophie said.

The man eyed her, raising a brow. Lucette stood rooted to the ground, and she didn't dare to think about anything.

"But, she isn't the princess."

.

Inside an apartment, a man lay in his bed closing his eyes. He opened his eyes when a shuffling sounded on the stairs. His nose picked his friend's familiar scent.

The door to his chamber opened, and Orson came in. "You're looking like a sh*t," he said, grabbing a chair and sat beside the bed.

"Whose fault I am in this situation?" the man retorted, struggling to sit while groaning in pain holding his chest.

"It has been over a week. It's supposed to heal completely in a few days," Orson said, looking at his friend. He was haggard as probably didn't wash for a week. Dark cycle under his eyes, and his face was pale with a subtle in his chin. A thick white bandage covered his chest and neck.

"With such an injury, you should be grateful that I didn't die under my best friend's hands! Why can't you be moderate a little."

"It's the result of being such a fool to fall for their ploy."

the relation between the werewolves and the vampires was held in a thin thread, one light pull and it would snap.

And his fool friend ran right into a trap and he would pay the price, a sh***y price!

"I was light. If not, you will be dead for real," he continued.

Meanwhile, Kyle thought, 'Light? He nearly chopped my head! I am at fault to befriend a heartless werewolf.'

"Did you find the one behind the attack?" Kyle asked after calming his anger as he was used to his friend's nasty tongue.

"I didn't, but the whole matter is strange," he answered, crossing his arms.

The attack a week ago on a civilian vampire was nothing but a shock to him when he heard his friend was also involved in it.

Kyle, the fool, didn't remember what happened at all! Even the two werewolves refused to say a word, saying that the vampire got into their territory and they followed him.

He wasn't sure if the target was him, or Kyle.

"You didn't come here to talk about this, isn't it?" Kyle said, looking at him.

Orson sighed. "My grandfather arranged a marriage alliance with the vampire. And today is supposed to be my wedding day."

Kyle winded his blue eyes and asked, "And what are you doing here?"

"Do you want me to get married?" he snapped at him while Kyle didn't answer him, then he stood up walking toward the door.

"Orson."

"What?" he asked as he stopped beside the door.

"It had been years since she died, maybe you should move on…" he murmured.

Orson glared at him and strode out, closing the door with a loud bang. He was wrong to come here. He thought his friend would stand with him.

And what with this 'move on' he didn't want to do it.

He exited the apartment and moved to his car. He grabbed his phone, over sixty passing calls and messages, as he was about to turn it off, his phone flashed.

"Yes, Jordan."
