Chapter 1 - The Test

I sat in the back row with the other students as we watched our teacher demonstrate his Martial Arts Technique. He breathed in and the air around him started to gather. Soon his whole body was covered by air.

"Rushing Wind"

The air around him blew out and sliced the rock in front of him into two. We were all amazed at how a calm technique like that could have such a deadly effect. Our teacher quieted us down a moment later as the sound of our voices got too loud.

"That was one of the many wind techniques of my sect."

The teacher then asked if we had questions. Many kids raised their hands and asked questions.

"What is the strongest martial arts."

Our teacher put his hand on his chin and spoke.

"There isn't really a strong martial art because every martial art has its own advantages and disadvantages."

Our teacher paused for a second and continued to talk.

"Most wind martial artists like myself prefer long-distance combat because of its advantage. But a disadvantage to that is if we are ever in a close combat situation we could lose our life. It's the same for ice martial artists too because they focus on long-range."

The teacher paused again as if he was thinking about something and then continued talking.

"For thunder martial artists they usually practice both but they rely mostly on speed and low damage attacks which isn't the best for fighting someone strong alone unless you know you can beat them. For beast martial artists and sword martial artists it's quite complicated."

"For beast martial artists they use the power of a beast so they mostly engage in close combat since most beasts don't have long-range attacks. But the beast could have speed and high attack or high defense and high attack or maybe all together. But sword martial artists are the most confusing. They have a great defense, strong attack, and great speed but sword martial artist's techniques are hard to learn which is why most people avoid it."

Our class asked more questions until it was time to go. We walked to the Cloud Academy where we would choose a martial artist's technique.

"Welcome to the Cloud Academy."

A man with white hair and a short white beard stood up. He was wearing a white robe with golden swirls and his aura was domineering.

"I'm one of the elders of this academy and I will be overseeing your test."

The kids groaned at the word test.

"This test is really simple. All you have to do is put your hands on the crystal ball and get it to green. If it's green you pass."

Before the elder could finish talking someone asked a question.

"Are there any other colors besides green?"

The elder nodded and smiled.

"The colors go in this order black, grey, green, yellow, blue, and white. Now let's get on with it."

The kids went one by one and put their hands on the crystal ball. Most got yellow and a few people got blue but no one got white. I was the last person to go and I put my hands on the crystal. It went from black to grey and then yellow. It looked like it was done until it went to blue and then shined a bright white.

I could hear the other kids gasp but I didn't mind it because I was just happy to pass. The elder looked down at me and gave me a big smile.

"That's the end of the test. Since everyone passed we can skip the boring stuff. Tomorrow everyone will be able to choose a basic martial artists technique and will become students of the Cloud Academy."

We left out the academy with smiles on our faces.
