Chereads / Gora Rise of the Demon Queen / Chapter 15 - Sleeping Beauty

Chapter 15 - Sleeping Beauty

Mog:

"Mog the princess has visitors." Drak called from the other side of the door. I said nothing, choosing to keep my focus on the sleeping Gora. She had passed out two days ago from her awakening. I used my Ki to figure out who the newcomers were without turning. Two very powerful beings entered the princess's room. One of them was the demon king himself. I guess the person with him must be Motus. He's the only one the King let get so close.

"My lord, please, the tribe leaders are getting restless. They all want to know your choice." Motus said. He was no doubt talking about the King's choice for an heir. The announcement had been postponed until further notice.

"Shouldn't my choice be obvious? I mean, Gora awaken ten layers. In terms of strength, she is the obvious choice." Gorro stated jokingly. I didn't care who he chose. I had given up my right to be involved with selecting the next heir when I started taking care of Gora.

That said, I hoped he wasn't serious. If the King were to choose Gora, the nobles would never let it stand. Their hate for the human race ran too deep. They also wouldn't tolerate a king or Queen with no tribe behind them. The princess would have to look over her shoulder constantly for assassins and other schemers. (Just because she has the potential to reach all ten layers doesn't mean she will reach that high. ) I thought.

"I wish you wouldn't joke like that. We all know what would happen to Esha." Motus said in a low voice. I could tell he wasn't only talking to the demon king. I didn't know if his words were a threat or not. Either way, it didn't sit right with me. I was about to respond when gorro cut me off.

"Enought leave! We will talk about the matter later. I came to check on my daughter." King Gorro said as he knelt down beside Gora's bed.

"As you wish, but i too came to see how the princess is doing? Speaking of which where are the healers?" Motus explained. I had doubts he was actually worried about her. (He'd probably be happy if Gora never woke up!) I thought as I looked at the man suspiciously. Motus never once expressed care for the princess. At least not enough to come to see her himself. He'd have one of his spies feed him information on the princess.

"Don't give me that look, Mog. It may not look like it, but I do rather enjoy the little princess. She is far more entertaining than the princes." Motus exclaimed. I didn't know how valid his words were. I figured I would give him the benefit of the doubt. He's never given me a reason to doubt him. Still, I decided to keep my mouth shut about the healers. Only me and Gorro knew the reason they weren't here.

"It would seem that the dark element wasnt the only thing Gora awaken. She also obtained a satanic-body." Gorro explained to his adviser. Motus's eyes almost popped out of his head. I was surprised too. So surprised I slapped Gorro on the back of his head.

"Ouch! Motus is my trusted adviser, and best friend. I trust him with my life." Gorro exclaimed as he rubbed his head. The satanic body was a demon trait of the devil race. It allowed one to heal as long as they had Ki. Only the devil chosen by the Goddess of chaos herself obtains the trait. It was a god-level skill at a higher level. It allowed a devil to regrow limbs. If the high nobles knew the princess had awakened the satanic body, they would try to kill Gora now. (She is too much of a threat to the throne.) I thought as I examined Motus. The King may have trusted the man, but I didn't.

"You see what I mean? The princess is far more entertaining." Motus said. His face was calm, but I could tell the news shook him. We then spoke for a long time about Gora and what to do next. Well, they talked. I was busy watching Gora. With the satanic body, her wounds were healing, but slowly. The princess had broken all four limbs and a few ribs. Honestly, she should be dead.

It was only thanks to the insane amount of Ki she had that kept her alive. Compared to other awoken Gora's age, she had double maybe triple the Ki they'd have. It was so much her tiny soul core couldn't contain it all. Slight traces of Ki had been steadily leaking from Gora as she slept. Gora's awakening had been one shock after another. It was hard to wrap my head around everything that happened.

"Can you two leave us. Im sure you have much to discuss and Gora needs her rest." I asked Gorro and Motus. I needed time alone to think about everything that was going on. There were just too many questions that needed answers.

The King and his aide agreed, but they both told me to get them if anything changed. When they left, I laid my head on Gora's body, making sure her heart still beat. Her chest rose and fell so slowly it was hard to tell if she was breathing. I let out a long sigh after confirming Gora's heart still beat. (What are you dreaming about?) I wondered as i exmined Gora. She had been twitching a little in her sleep.

"Sleep well little one. Your going to need all the rest you can get." I said softly as I stroked Gora's hair. The blankets moved a bit, and two little pups popped their heads out under the sheets. Their cute little eyes stared up at me. They were the dogs given to Gora as a gift. When the animals climbed into the bed, I thought they were just curious little puppies. It turns out they had been worried about their new master. As soon as the pups got in the bed, they started feeding Ki into Gora to help her recover. Even as puppies, the dogs were already at layer two.

I was surprised that the animals had taken a liking to Gora so fast. Jackels only submit to a strong master. They would switch masters depending on who was more powerful—their current master or their new one. I figured that's why the beast tribe chose them as a way to humiliate the princess. Image her guard dogs turning on Gora because she was too weak.

"Sister!" I heard a voice behind me. Duae had been hiding in the room this whole time. I'm sure the King and Motus knew she was here, but they said nothing. I had ordered my sister to stay as a backup. In case any of the tribe tried something stupid. I doubted they come for Gora's head so soon. I just made sure I prepared for any scenario.

Duae hated Gora for being half-human. She felt that the princess was a disgrace to the demon race. But I could trust her with Gora's protection because she would never disobey me. (Well, at least not anymore.) I thought as I turned to my sister. She had a worried look in her eyes. I could tell she wanted to say something. I decided to make her say it instead of bothering to read her mind.

"Why are you so attached to this girl? Her mere exsitance could topple this kingdom. Is she worth an entire nation?" My sister asked. I could understand her confusion. As the oldest sibling, I had the power to block her from my thoughts. Meaning she could never tell what I was honestly thinking. I could still read her mind loud and clear. It only took me a moment to tap into her brain and see how she really felt.

Whoosh!

In no time, I had crossed the room, stopping in front of my sister. My hand grabbed her neck before she could even say anything. I picked her up by her skinny throat and slammed her into the wall. The surprise attack created a dent in the stone surface and shook the room. I give Duae no time to retalaite. Then I turned to make sure I didn't disturb Gora but found that she was still fast asleep. After confirming that the princess was okay, I turned back to my sister.

"I would burn this entire nation to the ground for this girl! And I would kill you without a second thought." I threaten my blood lust poured out of me like a waterfall. My sister had been thinking about getting rid of Gora. It was only for a moment, and she quickly tried to hide it from me. Unfoutnetly for her, she was unable to conceal anything from me.

Drak called into the room to see if everything was okay. The stubborn troll had stayed on guard since Gora passed out. I tried to give him a break, but he refused me. I assured him that everything was fine, but the big idiot entered the room anyways. Drak opened the door and saw me strangling Duae. Without speaking, he slowly closed the door behind him. When he was gone, my attention turned back to my sister.

'I haven't forgotten your betrayal, sister! If I were you, I would be on my best behavior. You wouldn't want to end up like our third sister, do you?" I asked, glaring at Duae. (Maybe I should kill her now. There is no telling what she'd do.) I thought as my grip tightened. I could read my twin's thoughts so I could feel the fear she now had. Long ago, she and my other sibling had tried to get rid of me. If it wasn't for Nova, Gora's mother, I might not be here today.

Mmmm!

A moan came from Gora, causing me to drop my sister. I race back to the princess's side, reaching her even before my sister hits the floor. Duae started gasping for air while I examined Gora. The princess was still asleep, but she was tossing and turning in her bed. I placed my hand on her head, channeling Ki into her to help to calm her mind and help her recover. Gora's groans stopped after a few moments, and I felt myself relax again.

"Leave now! before I change my mind." I demanded. Duae wasted no time in leaving the room. It was a good thing, too, because if I saw her face again. I might lose myself to fury. The truth was I still needed her help. I couldn't protect Gora by myself. I was strong, but I wasn't invisible. My sisters had proven that fact long ago. (Why did you have to be half-human.) I thought when I was alone again. If the princess had been a full demon, she would be the perfect candidate for the new demon Queen. The Goddess of chaos herself had even chosen her. Everything was perfect except for one thing-the blood that runs through her veins.

I had nothing against humans. It was a human that had saved my life after all. After the "Great-Split." Demons and humans had no contact with one another. The average demon born today hasn't even seen a human. Or a member of the other non-demon race. It was the elder demons that still harbored hate for humans.

"Nova what am I going to do?" I said as I laid my head on Gora. My eyes were getting heavy from not sleeping for two days. I had refused to take my eyes off the princess this entire time. (Just wake up soon, okay.) I thought with worry. Right now, my sole focus is on Gora's survival.

Satanic Body: A rare ability that only manifests in those of the Devil race. The power allows one to heal with their Ki. You can even regrow limbs. The satanic body is so rare that there have only been two other devils in history known to possess it. The trait is said to be a gift from the Goddess of Chaos.

The Great Split: A great war between all the races in the world. Long ago, demons and the other races lived closely with each other. It was an age of war and conflict and also birthed a new race or people. The race is known as the Dark Elvan.

Dark Elvan: A race determined to eliminate both order and chaos from the world. They caused havoc on every race, including the demons. They grew so strong that the two Goddesses decided to step in. They tried to banish them from the world entirely but only succeeded in splitting all the races from each other.
