Chapter 19 - The Great Escape

Mog

I strolled through the hallway in a chipper mood. I waved to the servants as I practically skipped to Gora's room. Today was the day she would finally be able to leave her room. Gora had been restless for the month of isolation. Although her wounds had healed up, the healer gave her a few weeks of bed rest to recover. Gora didn't like being cooped up in the palace. More importantly, she's been hounding me about learning magic. ( I can't wait to see the look on her face!) I thought as I imagined Gora hugging me for teaching her how to use her Ki.

"Good morning my lady." Drak greeted with a smile. I greet him back before entering the room. Drak had learned not to stand in my way anymore. I entered the room, and seeing Gora spread out on the large bed. Her black hair covered her face, and drool rolled down her lips. ( She will never get a husband, sleeping like that!) I thought, shaking my head. I made my way to the window and opened the blinds.

Arf-arf!

The second the light hit the bed, Canis and Canem barked at me. They had started to take after their master. (She wasn't a morning person either.) I thought.

"Ugggghhh!" Gora groaned as the dogs walked all over her. One even sat right on her face.

"Its time to get up sleepy head. Today you get off bed rest." I said, helping the princess sit up. She said nothing, only rolling her eyes at me. I perked her up when I mentioned breakfast. The two Jackels seemed happy about the ordeal as well. I decided to brush Gora's hair before we left. I didn't want the other servant to see her like this. After I was done, we made our way to the dining room. The princess was still dragging along behind me. As we made our way there, the servants all looked at Gora strangely. Rumors had started to spread about Gora's awakening. The people now knew that Gora had the potential to reach the tenth layer.

Gora paid them no mind as her she walked. Canis and Canem walked right beside her. When we made it to the dining area, I was surprised to see Gorro. The demon king was sitting at the table sipping on juice. I wasn't expecting him to be here.

"Gora, Mog, come sit. I've been waiting for you two." Gorro said, gesturing for us to sit down. Gora took a spot right next to him while I sat across from them. He was acting weirder than usual. If that was even possible?

"I came to see you off." The King said. Gora looked at him with confusion but quickly shook it off. I, too, was confused by his statement.

"Oh, are you leaving the palace again?" Gora asked. (I guess he means he sees himself off.) I thought, rolling my eyes at the man. The King was too much of an adventurer, always going off on his little trips. I wished he would stay and help me raise Gora, especially now since the entire Kingdom knew the princess's potential.

"Ah, yes that what I meant. I'll be leaving soon so I came to tell you how much i'm going to miss you." Gorro said, hugging Gora tightly. He was very clingy today. The pair then talked about everyday life. Gora again asked about her mother, but the King dodged the questions. I promised him that I would let him tell Gora about Nova. I wished I'd never agreed to the promise. The King was taking his time broaching the subject.

"Again but this time, focus on making your hand lighter." I instructed. After breakfast, Gora and I headed down to the training ground to test her element. The black element was still somewhat of a mystery to us. We had figured out that it added weight to anything the princess touched. I tested the weight her element gave off myself and deduced that at her current layer. Gora could add up to 200 pounds to anything she touched. The only problem was that she wasn't strong enough to bear the total weight herself.

"Yes I did it!" Gora yelled. She was so excited that she waved her hand covered in black Ki like a crazy person. I held out my arms, waiting for a hug as my reward for helping her, but it never came. I watched as the princesses danced around the field, waving her hand. ( Where is my prize!) I thought. I was disappointed I didn't get a reward for my efforts, but the smile on Gora's face was all I needed. I couldn't help but smile at Gora, who was now running around the field like a chicken with its head cut off. Watching her made me giggle a little. It didn't last long, however.

I could make out two figures making their way to us. ( Why are they here?) I thought as Gorro and Motus walked our way. Gora stopped running around and waited for the pair to arrive. I had the grounds cleared for the princess's training, so we were the only people present. I even gave Drak the day off.

"To what do we owe the pleasure of this interruption?" I asked. I tried to hide my displeasure but was unable to stop myself. They both gave me worried looks, but neither the King nor his advisor spoke.

"Umm, Lady Mog, may I speak to you for a moment? Alone Please?" Motus spoke first. He gestured for me to follow him. I looked to Gorro, who just nodded to me. I had no idea what Motus wanted from me. He and the King were acting strange. I stared at them both with confusion but stepped away with Motus.

"This better be quick." I started moving a few feet away from Gora and her father. The princess was busy showing her father what she had learned. It was when we got a few yards away that Motus spoke.

"Lady Mog, I know this is sudden, but I would like to talk about the princess. The moment he mentioned Gora, I turned to see where she was. The way the King and his advisor were acting made me worry. When I turned, I saw Gora passed out in Gorro's arms. The scene took me by surprise. One minute she was laughing and playing; the next, she was knocked unconscious. There is no way she's exhausted from training. We had only just started. (Something not right.) I thought as I glared at Motus.

"My king, I thought we plan to talk to Lady Mog first." Motus said nonchalantly. He was now rubbing his head in frustration. Canis and Canem both stood up to examine their master and started to growl at the demon king.

"Talk? there is no talking to that one." The King announced as he picked up the princess while nodding his head to me. I was about to race to her side, but Motus grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks.

"SSSomeone better explain, and I mean right now!" I hissed. My blood was beginning to boil. Motus started to explain. He told me about Gorro's plan to send Gora away. The King was planning on sending his daughter on the King's trial. (They had to be kidding.) I thought as I listened to Motus's words. I understood more after He told me about the birth of the Dark King. The Kingdom would need to be strong and united for what was coming. I didn't understand the part where I had to stay here and leave Gora to fend for herself.

"Hahahaha! And you two thought I would just go along with this crazy plan of yours." I said with a laugh.

Bang!

I slammed my palm into the unsuspecting Motus, sending him flying through the air. I then turned to charge Gorro, who started running the moment I finished my sentence. (Damn him!) I thought as I lept in the air after Gora. The man knew me all too well. He knew I would never leave Gora on her own. I had given my word to Nova that I'd protect Gora no matter what. I didn't care that much about the Kingdom as a whole. I had given up on Esha long ago. I had the plan to leave with Gora when she got a little older. I knew she would never truly be safe here.

"I Told him talking would do no good." Gorro said when I caught up to him. The King was at the peak of layer nine. Meaning he was insanely powerful and swift. It was good that I was a layer nine beast, or I'd never catch him. Still, he was quite a ways ahead of me. We were moving through the city, jumping from building to building. We moved so fast that we had to clear the entire capital in seconds. Now we were in the forest a few miles away from the Dela.

"Get your ass back here Gorro!" I screamed when I had finally caught up to him. The King turned and gave a loud whistle. Then he sped up, going even faster than before. I channeled more Ki in my legs as I prepared to race after him.

Whoosh.

I was stopped in my tracks by an arrow, which I caught before it pierced my skull. (You are helping Gorro too?) I thought as I examined the arrow in my hands. There was a small pink flower attached to the projectile. I recognized it immediately. It was one used by Raya. The leader of the imp tribe. I decided to ignore her and chase after Gorro. That's when black flames shot from the trees behind me.

Boom

I used my hand caked in Ki to stop the attack. I could tell it wasn't meant to kill me, only slow me down. The attack came from Motus, who had caught up to us. I ignored them both and started after Gorro again. I looked to the sky and saw a silhouette of what I determined was the King. I quickly charge after him. I only got a few feet away when another arrow came my way. I moved aside, letting the attack pass me harmlessly. I thought anyways.

Creek! Crack!

Vines sprouted from the arrow, wrapping themselves around me. I was still in the air when the attack trapped me, and I began to tumble toward the ground. I was able to break my bindings, but not fast enough. I crashed into the ground with great force, creating a small crater. Pain racked my body, but I didn't give it a second thought. I got to my feet quickly only to be hit by a black fireball.

Boom

The flame hit me in the side, causing me to go flying. ( They're just here to slow me down.) I thought as I landed on my feet. Before they could attack me again, I changed the direction of the last arrow. Raya was the weakest of the generals meaning she was no actual match for me. If I took her out, things would go much smoother. As I moved, I released my purple miasma causing the trees and plants to die around me.

Gotcha!" I screamed As I spotted my target. She was blending in with the trees flawlessly. Unfortunately for her, I was tracking her Ki. Instead of wasting my energy fighting her, I unhinged my jaws and poured my poison breath all around. I was blocking her escape and trapping her in place. I could hear her coughing and ignored it. The poison would go away soon, and it wasn't enough to kill Raya. With her dealt with, I made my way after Gora.

Lucky for me, I could still make out a figure racing away. I was a little shocked that Gorro hadn't gotten that far. With his speed, he should have been miles away by now. I figured it was Gora slowing him down. (Don't worry, I'm coming, princess.) I thought as I went after the King. Black flames shot up here and there, but I was able to dodge them with ease. When I caught up to my target, I noticed my mistake.

"Duae!" I screamed, causing my sister to stop in her tracks. She then headed towards the forest, and I followed. She had slowed down considerably, so It wasn't hard. I noticed she was carrying something. (The jackals?) I thought when I saw the two pups in her arms.

"Why are you here?" I asked, anger welling up in me. For some reason, I couldn't read my sister's mind. Daue said nothing as she put the two dogs down. They immediately race off, not bothering to stay with us. (So, they are headed to their master.) I thought. Jackels could track their master from anywhere in the world.

" The king asked me to bring them to the princess and to slow you down." Duae said as she turned around. Rage filled me, and I charged her. When I saw the item on her head, I lost my mind.

Bang!

My fist collided with her face. My sister tore through the sky like she'd been launched out of a catapult. I was surprised that she didn't even try to fight back, but that didn't stop me. I was just too mad. Before Duae hit the ground, I moved beside her at breakneck speed.

Bang!

I drove my fist into her abdomen, stopping her mid-flight. She hit the ground and bounced a little. Blood shoots from her mouth and hits my face. I didn't bother whipping it as I channeled Ki into my raised palm. I was making my hand vibrate at an incredible speed. Then I struck my sister in her head without hesitation. Duae did not attempt to stop me.

I broke the small black crown that rested on her head. I had cut her skin a little causing blood to run down her face. I didn't care about that, though. I was to focus on the item she was wearing. The crown was an item I thought I would never see again. It was a magic item my sisters used to block their thoughts from me. Long ago, the crowns were used to betray me and lock me away. I couldn't believe Duae would use such a thing again.

"I hope you preppared to die today sister." I said, raising my palm again. I was preparing for the final blow. I couldn't let her live after knowing the crown still existed. With them, she could betray me at any time. My sister was silent, but I could read her mind now that the object was broken. So, I didn't need her to speak.

("It's for the good of the Kingdom and you, sister. I'd gladly die to help both.") My sister's thoughts entered my mind. I couldn't help but tear up. In truth, I'd truly loved my sisters before, but the betrayal from years ago had driven us apart. It was too late to reconcile now. The wounds were just too deep to heal, and I could never fully trust her again.

"Ahahahaha!" I screamed in both sadness and anger as I attacked my sister. I aimed to take her life. (I love you!) Duae thought in my head. I still didn't stop.

Zap!

A bolt of black lightning struck me in the shoulder, piercing my skin. The surprise attack made me miss my sister but not wholly. I cut a small piece out of Duae's side. It wasn't enough to kill her instantly, but it would be fatal if she didn't deal with it. I had been knocked off my sister's body and hit the ground. I rolled to my feet and prepared for another attacker. I didn't need to see him to know who it was. The black lighting was a dead giveaway.

"I figured this might happen. Duae, go and find the princess. Follow the dogs. You are to take the princess to the designated point and do not return until it's done!" Gorro said. He gave Daue no room to refuse. She staggered to her feet and stared at the demon king, then at me. She dropped her head in defeat then took off after the jackals. I was about to move when I sensed two more people move behind me. It was no doubt Motus and Raya. I stared at the trio as I held my wound. My rage had finally boiled over.

"Duae If i see your face in Esha I'll gut you from tail to throat!" I screamed after my sister. I then turned my attention to the three ambushers. Gorro face was unmoving. Motus looked calm, but sweat dripped from his brow. Raya looked like she wanted to run at any moment.

"I hope all of you understand that I will no longer be holding back!" I said, wasting no time attacking all three. I didn't wait for them to answer. The time for talking had passed.

Boom!

That day went down in the history of Esha. The trimers from the battle were said to reach every inch of the Kingdom. The people in the capital of Dela felt the brunt of the attack. The entire capital shook all night. The people would go on to tell stories about that night for years to come. The Demon King had told his subjects. A strong beast had entered the forest but was taken care of by him and his advisor. Some took the explanation and let the whole ordeal go. Others wondered what beast would be strong enough to challenge not only the King but his advisor as well. The people were also saddened to hear that during the commotion, their beloved princess had been kidnapped.
