We are the invaders!

Boom!

Sir Goerge

An explosion occurred as My long sword crashed into the demon king, obsidian scythe. The shock wave shook the earth and blew us both away. I flew through the air helplessly, unable to move on account of my body being so exhausted. I barely had enough strength to keep a grip on my sword and shield.

Thunk!

My body hit the ground with a thud and continued to slide through the dirt. I finally stop after sliding for about 100 meters. When my body hit something solid. After stopping, I examined the battlefield for signs of the demon lord. I saw him lying a few hundred meters away. It was hard to find him in the sea of dead bodies.

*Dear God, what have we done?* I thought to myself as I looked at the field. Mutilated body after Mutilated body litter the battlegrounds. Human and demon. I looked hard but couldn't see a live man from either side. Granted, I only had one working eye now. Thanks to the demon king. After fighting with the beast for a whole day, my entire body was covered in wounds, my left eye being one of them. The silver armor I was wearing was broken to hell. I lost half of my helm to a war hammer wielded by one of the demon Generals. Needless to say, I wasn't in any actual shape to keep fighting.

*The demon king isn't doing any better.* I thought as I got another look at him. His dark black armor was torn to pieces as well. He was now sitting on one knee and staring daggers at me. His dark yellow eyes were locked on mine.

"I'm going to kill you, human if it's the last thing I do." The creature roared as it looks at me. Even though the demon spoke those words, he didn't move. Like me, he must be completely drained. Demon king or not, fighting me for a full day had taken away a lot of his precious energy. While the demon king was struggling to move. I took my chance to survey the battlefield.

*I pray that damn Bishop wasn't still alive.* I thought to myself as my eyes searched for said man. It took a while, but I finally noticed something. I see a few bodies in silver armor. The holy armor only wore by us paladins. Where there is a paladin, there is undoubtedly a priest. I slowly stood up while my body protests from the pain. Even Still, I managed to make it to my feet. You don't get to be a paladin without getting used to the pain. When I stood, I noticed what I had been leaning up against. It was a massive demon beast the size of an elephant. The site took me back a bit, but I continued past it after noticing the beast was already dead. Someone had cut the head of the creature clean off.

When I got up, I saw the demon king's eyes widen in shock and just a hint of fear. But when he saw that, I just completely ignored him. His face balls up with confusion. I just made my way towards the pile of bodies. When I got a little closer, I saw what I had been looking for. It was pretty easy. The bright robes stuck out like a white flag. I got a glimpse of the archbishops Boris. *This bastard is the one responsible for this massacre.* I thought, stopping inches away from his fat body. I Glanced down at the unmoving man. He had a massive hole in his fat gut. On his face was a look of disbelief. It was as if, he was surprised that he had died. I looked around his body and spotted my actual target. In the dead Bishop's hands was a long golden staff with a bright red stone. The fat slob still had a grip on the weapon even as he lay dying. There it is! I thought as I raise my heart shape shield high above my head. Smashing the gem embedded in the staff. A bright red light shot out the now smashed gem. Blinding me for a moment. It was over in only a second, and when it was done. I felt a wave of emotion come over me.

"I'm free! Hahaha!" I laughed like a mad man. The white runes on my right collar bone started to glow. The only reason I could see it was because of my broken beast plate. The glow only lasted a moment then the ruin vanished altogether. I looked down at the bodies of my fellow paladins and saw glowing white light from underneath their armor.

"Your free, my brothers." I said softly. I didn't really feel anything about their deaths. We had been comrades in arms but because of our holy seals. We couldn't feel emotion. No, we were a strip of everything, making us human. I looked down at the cluster of silver armor, remains of the fallen order of paladins. I couldn't help but shed tears for the men and women lying dead all around me. Although I didn't know all of them, I knew we all had endured the worst imaginable torture to become the symbols of hope. A Paladin! Ironic that the very symbol of hope had their own hopes and dreams strip away from them. The purpose of a paladin was to live and die at the will of some damn priest.

The grip on my long sword tightened as I looked down at Archbishop Boros. The Once intimidating man is now just another corpse on a battlefield entirely of his own design. I felt like cropping his head and stomping on it. The Bishop deserves a more painful death than what he'd gotten. Before I could do anything, however, I felt something headed my way. In seconds my body reacted without me even thinking. I spun around, shield at the ready. Channeling the last of my mana to the shield, causing it to glow white. It was a good thing the holy shield only needed a minuscule amount of mana to activate. I was running dangerously low on mana.

Boom!

A thunderclap resounded threw out the battlefield. As the demon king's scythe crashed into my shield. The impacked of the attack, almost knocked me off my feet. I had to dig my feet into the ground to keep from topping over. The force still pushed me back a few inches. While my left hand held back the scythe, I attacked with my right. My long sword hummed as I slashed underhanded determined to bisect the man from hip to shoulder.

The demon king steps back, blocking my sword with the staff of his long scythe. Instead of halting, I loosened my grip on my sword, allowing my blade to slide it off my opponent's guard. Sparks flew as my blade slide off the metallic scythe. As soon as the blade cleared the demon's guard, I quickly switched my grip. I slashed horizontally, aiming to relieve the King of his head. The move was lighting fast and performed with a grace of a professional dancer. The long sword was now inches from the neck of the now bewildered demon. The look on his face told me he wasn't expecting the move. I couldn't blame the man after fighting a person for an entire day. You would think they would have slowed a little. Unfortunately for him, I was still moving with ease, thanks to my healing ability. All my serious wounds had been healing as I fought.

Just before my sword touched his neck, the demon turned into black smoke before he could entirely disappear, however. I felt my long sword connect with something solid. The demon king disappears then reappeared a few feet away from me. He had his hands holding one of his now broken horns. My attack had landed but not where I was aiming for.

"How… how are you still standing? I've cut and chopped every piece of your human body. Even if your ability to heal, your mana should still be dried up by now!" The creature screamed. Practically spitting out every word. His surprise was understandable, in all honesty. I should've been dead.

"Wait, don't tell me.. you're sacrificing your life force! If that's the case, then you've given up years of your life." The demon king said looking at me in surprise.

* Bingo! you got it* I thought to myself, the demon had figured it out. Even when my mana ran out, I would use my life force to restore myself. However, just because I could do that didn't mean it was the right thing. Using one's own life force shaves Years off one's own life.

"Hahahahah look at me, the great demon king Lobo. Losing to a human in such a way.. No wonder I lost. From the beginning, you warriors have been fighting without fear of death. Hahaha, I think I should start doing the same." The demon king said while standing to his feet. I felt the earth tremble and the wind pick up.

"So what if I die? I have nothing left to live for. No more men to protect and kead. How could I call myself a king!? Lobo shouted as he started to float in the air. Black clouds circle overhead. I didn't know what he was planning, but it wasn't good. I look at the Lobo trying to read his next move. That's when I saw something I thought I'd never see in all my years.

Tears! Tears were streaming, don't the demons face. I thought the demon lord didn't care about his subjects. That he would sacrifice any one of them for his own power. But it wasn't like that. The creature before me was crying over his fallen comrades. I felt guilt settle in the pit of my stomach as a realization hit me. We had invaded demon lands, torched their towns and cities. We Butchered man, woman, and child alike. It only now hit me that I was a part of it, not only that. I was an integral part. Under the holy seal, I was a force to do unspeakable things in the name of the holy church.

The irony of the situation dawned on me. We were the invading monster. The demons had been relatively silent for years. They hadn't stepped foot in human lands in over hundreds of years. After thinking it over to myself, I started to lower my guard. I wasn't under any mind control so, I didn't have a reason to fight the demon. The same couldn't be said of the demon king Lobo. I had slaughtered many of his men and important Generals.

"Prepare to die for your sins, human!" King Lobo shouted before plunging his scythe into his chest. Then he pulled it out quickly. Blood spurted out the wound and his mouth. The dark creature's skin started to pale, tuning more grey than black, and his eyes hung low. What every he was preparing, he didn't expect to live threw it.

* That's right, no amount of talking is going to save me. I may not have been in control of my action, but I would still have to answer for my role in all this.* I thought as I readied myself again. I wasn't prepared to fight but to die. I was done with fighting. It was all I had done from ages 8 to 67.

"Soul reaper!" The demon spoke, dragging his scythe across the sky. My body screamed at me to move. I instantly leaned to the right to avoid something. I cursed myself for dodging, but my body had a mind of its own. I had a body with instincts honed over several years of battle.

As I turn to look, I saw that my left hand was gone. Cut clean off the bone, but other than that, I was fine. Then the world stopped. Blood from my severe hand dripped at a drastically slow pace. I turn behind me and saw a small horizontal black line. It was about the size of a short sword, and it was floating behind me. Then all of a sudden, it expanded to the size of a large Boulder.

Before I could do anything, the now giant hole in the air began sucking everything within its path. It all happened so fast that I couldn't stop myself from being carried away. The world blurred as I was being dragged into the hole that seemed to lead nowhere. Before I was pulled out, I heard the King Lobo's final words.

"Say hello to the God of Chaos for me," He said before falling to the ground. Body limp and unmoving. Then I was sucked into the hole. *I'm sorry.* I thought as the world around grew dark.
