Chapter 7 - Selective Hearing

Dae-Hyun

I quickly locked the door to the room as we exited. I was shocked she wanted to blend in as much as she could but what were her true intentions? Did she want to run away from me?

I looked down at her as her grey eyes stared up at me in wonder, "Eun-Ae, can you do me a favor?" I asked in a soft tone.

Eun-Ae nodded as her eyebrows raised, waiting for me to continue.

"Do not speak or look at anyone but me. If they see your eyes they will know something is up."

Her gaze shifted to the floor as she lowered her head, "Okay."

I moved my hand under her chin and lifted her head, "I just do not want you to get hurt by anyone here. Do you understand?" I kissed the top of her head.

Eun-Ae nodded again and shifted her focus to someone behind me and quickly lowered her head as I turned around to see who was approaching.

"Oh my! Your majesty, you do have a consort!" The magistrate smiled as he practically skipped up to me.

I moved Eun-Ae behind me, blocking his view of her with my body. "Weren't you told to stay out of this area? Yet you still disobey a direct order?" I sneered.

"B-but your majesty you are needed at the front. It's urgent. The sender of the letter is here to speak to you in regards to his message since you never sent a reply." He pressed as he tried to peer around me.

I narrowed my eyes at him as I grabbed Eun-Ae's hand and gently pulled her to my side. "Go. I'll be behind you." I ordered the magistrate.

He froze for a moment as his eyes locked on Eun-Ae. "Oh she is so pretty! Wow Dae-Hyun, you really out did yourself."

"Yah!" I raised my arm to strike him, causing him to run back down the hallway. "I fucking told you to go."

"Did you want me to stay here until you finished? Or we can go together. I won't cause a fuss…" She glanced up at me as I rubbed my chin in thought. My eyes scanned her from head to toe.

"You are small enough to hide in my bed… it's behind the throne. I have a cover over it so no one will see you but you'll be close enough to me." I explained. The thought of this woman being any closer to me than she was, now scared me. Knowing she fed off of the hearts and livers of animals and humans alike without prejudice.

I didn't even realize her body was flushed to mine until she cleared her throat and took a step back, a light blush shading her cheeks.

I immediately let go of her hand and averted my gaze elsewhere as I panicked deep down inside. "Uh. We should go… just follow closely behind me." I stated before strutting off toward the throne room.

Her little legs managed to keep up with my pace as we quickly made our way to the throne room without any more interruptions. I offered her my hand as we approached the stairs.

Eun-Ae looked to my hand then back up at me, blinking in confusion before placing her small delicate hand into mine. Just this simple touch warmed my heart. The fact that I was slowly gaining her trust meant the world to me.

I guided her up the stairs and felt uncomfortable for a moment as a barrage of footsteps invaded the room. I shielded her with my body and wrapped my hands around her little waist, lifting her.

Eun-Are clapped her hand over her mouth to prevent herself from squeaking as I gently carried her the rest of the way up and tucked her behind the red curtain.

She spun around to face me as I placed my finger over her lips to signal for her to remain quiet. She blushed once more and nodded before disappearing under my blanket.

"Your majesty, you have a visitor in regards to the letter we tried to tell you of before." Bool-He shouted.

I turned around and strode over to my seat and lowered myself to the edge. "Well let's discuss it then. Since our visitor is here now." I replied calmly.

"Bow your heads in respect of the arrival of the royal Chun family." An announcer shouted as the magistrate and sentinels executed the order.

I sat unwavering as two guards appeared in the doorway, opposite of my throne. Who is this man to enter my palace without an actual escort? My family has had trouble with the opposing family in the past and I did not take to his trespassing lightly.

"If it isn't the third son of Park." Chun laughed as he waltzed into the room with open arms.

"State your business and leave." I stated coldly.

Chun clicked his tongue, placing his hands on his hips as he graciously took in the view. "Wow, is that anyway to greet a royal? You should know since you are sitting in your father's place. It means your brothers didn't have the knowledge nor the respect to uphold your fathers wishes."

"And I am nothing like him besides my hatred for you, now what do you want?"

"Straight to the point I see. Well if you had read the letter and responded I wouldn't have had to come all this way to ask for something that was taken from me." He chuckled, a smirk forming on his lips.

"Very well then, what is it you are claiming I stole?" I asked, slowly rising from my chair.

"A woman. Particularly a shifter." He sneered.

I raised my brow at him as I took cautious steps down the staircase. "You come into my home, threatening me over a woman? I released the shifters hours ago so whomever you were looking for may have just left."

He shook his head as I had made it down the steps and stomped up to him. Our heights matched, but our builds were different. I held to the slender yet toned side rather than his bigger and bulkier frame.

"This one happens to have recently disappeared. All I know is someone mentioned she was here." He remarked slyly.

I clasped my hands behind me, leaning toward him. "I haven't the slightest idea and if she's an interest of yours then surely I should be the one to take her from you." I smirked in return as I stared him down.

"Mmm, you calling for a challenge?" He slowly reached for the hilt of his sword.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you. But I would turn around and leave while your limbs are still attached to your body." I whispered in a very aggressive tone.

Gon and his men quickly entered the room, their swords drawn. "I am going to have to ask you to leave now." A growl seemingly vibrated his chest, indicating that he meant business.

I held my smirk as I turned around to check on Eun-Ae. Her small form was barely visible to me from down below. I hope you are not the one this idiot speaks of. I thought to myself. "Gon, escort Royal Chun out of the palace and lock the gates."

"Yes, your majesty." He put himself between Chun and myself as I walked toward my throne. "I have business to attend to. The room is dismissed."

Everyone bowed their heads to me as I reached the top. I pulled the curtain back enough for Eun-Ae to poke her head out from under the covers causing me to smile before her tails shifted behind her in excitement.

"Are you okay?" I whispered.

She nodded and shifted her gaze behind me then back to me. I pulled the curtain back over and looked behind me to see Gon with a shit-eating grin on his face. Nodding at him I glanced around the throne room to see that it was indeed empty.

"So they actually listened to me. Maybe we can make this work. Can you follow us to the baths and just keep guard? I don't trust anyone here."

"No problem. Ready to go when you guys are. I made sure everyone was cleared out of there." He jutted his thumb in the direction of the baths.

I glanced behind me at Eun-Ae, a smile on my face, "Let's go."
