Chereads / James The bodyguard / Chapter 30 - 24~ After all, James is his bodyguard

Chapter 30 - 24~ After all, James is his bodyguard

"Do you understand?" - my pupils remain fixed on Edward's lips as they pucker several times speaking with the intention of discussing the different points of the contract.

Although before I walked into his office I was worried and felt guilty, now my mind is

foggy and I can't think of nothing but the handsome man I find in front of myself.

As soon as he gets a puzzled grimace, I quickly shake my head and try to stop fantasizing:

"Was I clear enough?" - he raises the corners of his mouth again in a smile, repeating the question, then I hasten to

answer, nodding his head at the same time:

"Sure!" - I exclaim, and then get up from my chair, while he points at me to suggest following him out of his office.

It is so beautiful and elegant that I would like to work in a place like this too, but I would never replace

the smell of onion frying with that of Edward's office, which is surrounded by thick glass that

allow him to see everything that happens outside his office, in fact I can see the figure of James approaching

at the entrance just as Edward sets foot out of the office.

I curse him mentally, but I try not to let Edward see my annoyance as he turns around and

gives me another of his reassuring smiles: after all James is his bodyguard and, as much as I get annoyed

having him around, I would like him to believe that his friends are very nice to me.

I force myself to avoid James the exact moment he nods at Edward, then

tries to meet my eyes, but I do not give him time to do it that I move my gaze behind Edward

in front of me.

I have no idea where we are going, but I hope to get there as soon as possible to avoid feeling in

embarrassment at James's haughty gaze, who blatantly boasts that he knows the truth, as if she threatened me to be good to him, or he would tell Edward anything.

I look around and admire the style of this building, in which all the rooms are surrounded by walls of

glass, as if everyone worked outdoors.

Yet I have always hated places that are too formal, so much so that I preferred to spend the rest of my life in

a kitchen, rather than being a lawyer as my mother would have liked, but in here I feel

comfortable, although I am aware that it will not take long to lose this job.

I shake my head at my thoughts when I notice Edward approaching James as they walk away

in front of me.

The bodyguard looks around and glares at everyone who turns in his direction, except

the sexy secretaries walking in front of us to get the attention of the bodyguard and to which James responds

with an almost mischievous smile.

I snap my tongue on the palate and press my lips together, remembering why he is so unpleasant to me,

but at the same time I try to eavesdrop on his conversion with Edward.

I follow the two men in front of me with a quick step, but I can't hear anything they say,

even if I realize that the subject of their conversation is certainly not me.

Edward seems to have completely forgotten about my presence until the long corridor leads us into a very large room with a much higher ceiling than the rest of the building.

My heart starts beating rapidly as soon as I find myself in front of a giant space reserved for

what will be my next job: lots of cameras are placed in a corner

of the huge gym, while a couple of men raise their heads in our direction, noticing our arrival.

I swallow my saliva with difficulty, suddenly feeling alone and wishing I had by my side the only

person who would be able to relax me, but my crazy best friend becomes a beast when I disturb her while she's working, so I'm forced to cry on myself mentally, trying to hide

the anxiety that devours me right now from Edward.

Maybe it won't be difficult and it will be enough to really concentrate and move like a monkey in front

of the lens, but the serious face of the old man standing in the middle of the set doesn't help me at all.

I look for Edward's gaze to encourage me that it's worth it, but his

attention is captured by the man we approach, so I look over his shoulder at the bodyguard who

walks arrogantly and neutral at the same time, catching him staring at me with a frown, but

he takes his eyes away as soon as he crosses mine, and then quickly runs a hand through the messy tufts

that fall on his furrowed forehead.

I sigh and refrain from raising my eyes to the sky: he has surely understood that I am in trouble and

surely he will be laughing under his breath.

Right now I'd rather him go back to his car and talk to his beloved Hilary.

"This is Hannah." - I return to reality and stop at the exact moment I hear my name being pronounced,

so I turn my attention to the photographer, who immediately puts me in awe for the way he looks at me,

as if he understood that there is something wrong.
