I shake my head and jump as James's phone ringer echoes in the car, making me
return to reality.
I pretend I don't care about his expression, but out of the corner of my eye I spy on him as he extracts the
cell phone from his pocket, and then look at the screen, but as soon as he reads the name that appears on the
screen he opens my eyelids wide and whitens so much that I can't help but stretch my head
in its direction.
As soon as I read 'Hilary' I immediately look away and lower my eyebrows confused, but above all
intrigued by his expression: he almost seems amazed at this call and it doesn't take long to understand that
for him this Hilary is of great importance.
I roll my eyes, thinking this is one of his suitors, certainly the first on the list, since he
seems to have seen a ghost.
"Are you okay?" - I frown when James brings the phone to his ear, asking the woman with a
worried voice, almost forgetting my presence.
I position myself better on the seat, straightening my back in hearing his tone of voice: I try to convince myself
that it is better not to hear, but I don't know why my ears don't want to obey to my intentions.
I can't hear the female voice on the other side of the line, but I don't take my eyes off his figure,
seeing the muscles of his arm extended towards the steering wheel contract with each single movement.
"I ..." - he says in a restrained voice, almost unable to say what he feels like expressing, but
curiosity devours me to the point that I realize that I have just arrived in front of Edward's company only when
I hear the car stop:
"... I miss you too." - he concludes with a hoarse voice, making my head spin
in his direction.
I grit my teeth at his kindness, realizing only now that James is an asshole and bully only with me and not
with every living being that surrounds him.
I wonder why this woman is different from me, even if I already imagine her with a Barbie body and annoying voice.
Out of patience and annoyed by his words, I decide to get out of the car and start walking alone towards the
gigantic structure bearing the surname of Gordon in large carved stone letters.
Out of the corner of my eye I try to catch James's expression as I walk away, but it seems to be there
completely forgot about my existence and continues to talk on the phone with a slight smile on his face.
I do not notice that I am glaring at him as I walk on the pavement in front of the car, and
I do not even notice that in front of me there is a high pole until I hit my head against it and I am
forced to take two steps back, putting a hand on her forehead.
I take a grimace that is more embarrassed than pained, and then look around with the fear that someone
realized how stupid I am.
I slap myself mentally when I realize a few people have turned to my side and
they try to keep from laughing or they burst out laughing in the distance, so I decide to move my legs,
cursing James for the umpteenth time since I met him, thenreaching the entrance
of the company.
I try to free my head from all thoughts and look at the sign from below, only now realizing that the job
that I'll have to do will be more than serious, while I have limited myself to watching video tutorials of
modeling on youtube choking on popcorn and marchmellows.
Before I can regret my decision, I decide to enter through the gigantic glass door, from which
I see inside, in the large entrance covered with chairs and sofas, the image of Edward smiling and
flawless from head to toe that comes towards me, as if he was waiting for me and had held an eye on the entrance since this morning.
